Deceitful LionWB
Creature - Lion (R)
When Deceitful Lion enters the battlefield each opponent reveals their hand.
When Deceitful Lion deals combat damage to a player you may name a card. That player reveals their hand. If the named card is in that player’s hand exile it. Proud it may be, but true it isn’t.

I know I'm going to regret sticking my nose in where it doesn't belong but.....Don't you think you're being a bit vindictive at this point? Do we really need to spread this nonsense to other contests? I think it may be time to get over it.
Edit: Actually I take back the part about my nose not belonging. I've worked with, and PMed bravelion enough to know that your ugly accusations just are not true. I've bitten my tongue long enough, it's time to stick up for an MTGS member I have a great deal of respect for.

I have contacted hopefulhawkeye about the recent events and will resolve things with him directly. Let's move on and just keep making cards. Thanks for keeping these contests going strong.

Just as an aside, having not made the cut... Flatline, that may be the coolest card design space I've ever seen.
Thanks for the positive feedback, it is greatly appreciated, but I have what might be a stupid question......What card are you referring to? If I'm onto something, I want to make sure I know what it is.

The "kind of like stack" card you posted that you can play early as a land face down or later as a creature face up.
Thanks glurman. I figured that was what you were talking about. In Kaijudo, all the spells work like that, which I think is a very simple solution for mana-screw. It also sets up an interesting choice for every card. Do I want to play this card as land? Or do I want to hold it to play later? Anyway, I'm glad at least somebody likes the idea. It is the only one I could possibly come up with for challenge, since Kaijudo is the only non-MTG card game I've ever played. I've played very little of that even. When I first read the challenge, I was afraid I might have to take a pass.

Tomorrow morning eastern standard time I'll be having my wisdom teeth removed. As you can imagine, I'll be out of it for the rest of the day after that and may not be of sound mind to answer questions or update the MCC until the weekend (part of the reason the 1st round deadline is this Friday so that Saturday for sure I'll be rested enough to post brackets and what not.)
If you have any questions, comments, or concerns about this round please ask now (or by tomorrow morning EST) so I give you a quick reply. Otherwise I'll do my best to reply as I rest over the next day or two. Thank you for your understanding.
Since our designs are based on non Magic the Gathering cards, should we give some explanations about what the inspired cards can do? For example, their mechanics or how to cast them.
If we design new ability words that have no reminder texts, should we explain them too?

You should not provide an explanation for your cards design or inspiration as a huge part of judging is how people react to the card. When you see a card in a booster, do you have the designer there telling you why it is there? No. I feel this is integral.
As for reminder text, it's your choice whether to include it or not on the card and be judged accordingly. My advice is unless you're doing something like creating an odd token like a poison counter that would have its own rules text on it, you should have the reminder text on the card itself for a new ability.

My surgery yesterday went off without a hitch and my recover looks smooth a relatively painless. I'm still got the regiment of pills, but I'll be good to answer questions and handle the brackets tomorrow.
Just a minor thing, being tagged in Netrunner is almost always achieved by falling into a separate trap (ice) that tags or traces you. Burning Earth is then more like a sorcery that can only be cast if the enemy has been tagged, punishing them for falling into the first separate trap and getting tagged. (and note that 4 damage in netrunner is often an insta-kill.)
Not that I'm unhappy with the review, being unfamiliar with the TCG's ispart of the difficulty of judging this round.

The problem is (aside from not knowing what half of what you just said means), you didn't evoke the inspiring card for me. Either your choice of card wasn't good enough (for example, if the challenge was reversed, I'd choose a magic card from a core set as my inspiration so that the mechanics could be readily understood by anyone), or there is just too much of a gap for me to look at one card and see its roots in the other.

That last challenge was particularly difficult. It wasn't just about being inspired by a card from another game, it was about choosing a card the gave you something worthwhile and translated well. Some mechanics from other games are very cool, but problematic when brought to magic terms. That and there is a fine a line between being "inspired" by a card and copying it into magic jargon, which not only is a tad bit lazy, would be illegal for a game designer to do. Hence why I wanted to make it clear that deductions were made for that in the main challenge.
The next challenge will be up shortly as I'm working on posting it now. It's not going to get any easier!
Yes, I confirm I am hosting December. It won't be as original of a month as November is turning out to be though (and congratulations to IcariiFA for that).

Thanks for the crits! Just one thing, IcariiFA: My card is really only on one plane, as the flavor text references the Conflux and therefore the flavor is Alaran, not Bantian or Jundian (are those even real adjectives?).

Ah yes, you're right. I confused your reference to Taric as one for Tajic and thought it was a Ravnica/Alara cross over. Hence my comments in the critique. I'll fix it before I do the tallies and post the next challenge in the morning. Though for the record, I'm on California time now so it may be pretty late even by EST (still within the 24 hour window though, promise!)

So we should all submit reprints of Pulling Teeth?
