Aw but my mythic was going to be so sweet.

Can you say what you mean by "opposes or hoses"? Does oppose mean it actually has to interact negatively with the mechanic, or simply function on the opposite side of the spectrum?

It should have an effect that is generally seen as undesirable for your opponent. Them losing life, discarding cards, sacrificing permanents, etc. Also, stuff like you gaining life, drawing cards, or getting free stuff. Essentially, there needs to be some sort of punishment for using your main mechanic.

~48 hours, guys. While it would be hilarious for Marco to win because he was the only entry, I'd rather see him win through awesomeness.

I'm having trouble with my wording.
I want something that stops artifacts from being creatures.
"Each artifact creature isn’t a creature." is where I am right now, because of that latest spoiler of Theros.
Do you think that will be alright?
And how does the layer system work for that?
Do I need another "Artifacts can't become creatures."?

And does "As long as <condition>, you may pay X instead of paying ~s casting cost." work for an alternate casting cost?

Honestly, I'm probably the worst judge when it comes to layers, but it seems like you'd need to flip the wording of March of the Machines or something similar (Though with Thassa around, I like the wording you have). The question is what happens when multiple abilities that define what a card is come into play? Say, your effect and March of the Machines are both on the field. I want to say that timestamp determines what happens, but I'm just not 100% sure. =/

You should ask around the Custom Card Rulings section. I'm sure one of the regulars there has the answer, or at least a better guess than I.

Oh yeah, round four is over. Judges can do that wonderful thing they do.

Is there another precedent for where an alternate cost ability would be placed on a card? I had assumed my mechanic would work the same as Evoke and come last on the card.

In general, alternate casting costs need to come first on the card, since that's the first thing you'll generally read when you draw it. Oddly enough, my "something is wrong" radar didn't go off there when I did my judgings and I stand by my decision, but I fully support the other judges to disagree. That's the nature of the beast; even WotC doesn't follow all of its rules all the time.

On a somewhat related note, we've got more than six judges for September for the first time in what seems like forever. Thank you, you beautiful people.

Gratulations to Antny233, the simple cards are the way to go, something I felt I couldn't do with where I came from.
I thought like Anathema is indeed very white as it's a church thing.
And I found it was funny that aurorasparrow told me my idea was retroactively unoriginal. Damn you WotC!
My card ended up rather meh and the better card(s) won.

Whoa, I didn't realize that we got so few entries this round while having more judges than usual. We need to keep the standard "Top 4 Advance" round one to preserve the integrity of later rounds (7 contestants in round 3 just will not work.)

I know you already did your judgings, but we'll need to give a judge a break this month and redistribute his or her entries so that each remaining bracket has at least 5 entries in it.

Any judge volunteers? Actually, nevermind. RedLoa, my friend, you were the last judge to sign up for this month so you're the one that I'll redistribute. Enjoy your time off.
