Only void_nothing can answer definitively, but there was nothing in the challenge that said the two cards needed to connect flavorfully, nor mechanically. The only connection stipulated in the challenge is that the equipment needs to be playable in an EDH deck that has your legend as its commander.

I'll take it if I can be a predictable sod and make it un-themed.
Woo-hoo! An un-month! A predictable sod would've gone with a holiday theme.
Edit: Viability ought to be an interesting category.

With that in mind, is anyone willing to commit to be a December judge? I can be a judge on reserve, although I too would like to participate, which means that in a worst-case scenario we only need one more person to step up!
Polish - (2.5/3) Quality: Unless stated otherwise a card only has abilities while on the battlefield so you don't really have to specify that. (-0.5)
This doesn't matter as far as the end result is concerned since it looks like I'm moving on regardless, but I'd like to point out that the wording for my card is 100% correct, as can be seen on the card Necrotic Ooze. Without the "As long as its on the battlefield" clause, what is preventing someone from cycling Linzah's Museum if they have a Forgotten Cave in the yard? There are plenty of activated abilities that can be activated in zones other than the battlefield, which is why a card such as Linzah's Museum would need to have the "battlefield clause".

December MCC Round 1 and Judge Signup threads are up. I wasn't entirely happy with my early unrounds, so silver bordered is optional for the moment. (Though I've got a good un-finale in mind!)
Congrats to bravelion on a well deserved victory! And as always, thanks to void and the judges for their excellent work.
As quick side note, I continue to be baffled by the uniqueness category. As far as I know, there has never been a card that makes a legendary token of the same name out of different cards in your graveyard. I'm not saying my card deserved a 3, but most cards have cards from the past that they share some characteristics with. There is only so much design space in the game, and if you try to make something too out there, you will suffer in most of the other categories more often than not. I don't mean this as a complaint, and as I said, I think bravelion is a very deserving winner, but I just don't understand how a card that does something creative that has never been done before scores so low on everybody's uniqueness sdid.cale.
Edit: TBH, Lazav, Dimir Mastermind reminds me of my card about as much as Séance does. Which is one of the reasons I don't think blue is as out of place on the card as the judges do. Blue is the color that copies stuff.

Add one to the trophy case for bravelion83! Congrats, Leo!
Thanks to you for hosting, to all the judges (I don't want to let their work go thankless because I know very well what it means) and to all the players for being awesome opponents. What can I say? I rarely play, but lately it looks like every time I do, I win... am I really so good at this? Anyway, time to update my resume! Thanks again to everyone.
I'll follow the contest from the outside on December, un-cards are not something I really like to design or judge, even though Unstable might easily be the first un-set I actually... (gasp, am I really about to say this?)... like. It has a structure that really appeals to me, and most of all it's not as out-of-the-box as the previous un-sets. It has no cards that force you to remove your pants and such. The worst it can happen is a Slaying Mantis being thrown around, or having to play Hangman, and that's nothing compared to previous un-sets. And no, Blurry Beeble is not a problem to me, I wear glasses all the time in real life (I'm myopic). I also really like both contraptions and host/augment, and I wouldn't mind seeing both of them in black border. Even though I understand why the rules don't currently allow them to be in black border, I hope someday that will change, and I think it's plausible. The adjustments required to support them look doable to me. Anyway, thanks again and back to lurking (and dealing with real life).

You won the bracket anyway.
Totally, "Toy" doesn't need to literally be on the typeline.
Would a card that is itself not an artifact, but is able to "make" artifacts, qualify?

Even though I understand why the rules don't currently allow them to be in black border, I hope someday that will change, and I think it's plausible. The adjustments required to support them look doable to me. Anyway, thanks again and back to lurking (and dealing with real life).

• The two public custom sets I've been part a part of the design team for:
"Brotherhood of Ormos" - Blog post with all info - set thread - design skeleton / card list || "Extinctia: Homo Evanuit" - Blog post with all info - set thread - card list spreadsheet
• "The Lion's Lair", my article series about MTG and custom card design in particular. Latest article here. Here is the article index. Rather outdated by now, and based on the old MCC rubric, but I'm leaving this here for anybody that might be interested anyway.
• My only public attempt at being a writer: the story of my Leonin custom planeswalker Jeff Lionheart. (I have a very big one that I'm working on right now but that's private for now, and I don't know if I will ever actually publish it, and I also have ideas for multiple future ones, including one where I'm going to reprise Jeff.)
