Weeeell, I chucked in 'upto' to make the card betterer. You coule, for example, cast that 6/6 trampler dude for cheap, then cast this for bb0 and put any dude with power 5 or less onto the field. I think. It still is a borked card and I said as much, I jjust wanted to point that out.
Treasure Dragon3RR
Creature - Dragon (R)

This is what we call a "bomb rare," folks.
Damn. That is real good. On-theme, too.
$$$$/$$$$$
And can someone explain why this scored so highly? I just don't see it. All I see is a red 4/4 dragon without flying, that costs 5, that can only ping creatures (for 2 mana... only twice (you can't even double the counters with something like Gilder Bairn, because YOU get the counters, not the dragon and I can't think of anything that increments counters on a player)). I get the theme and all that, I just don't see why it was a contender for 1st. Perhaps an explanation would help me make better cards. And I'm not whining that mine wasn't picked. It was ****. I just want to get better.

It was good for Megiddo. You don't win Club Flamingo creating good cards: You win by appealing the judge in turn. Each of us has different tastes and different viewpoints. For example, I tend to like elegant and flavorful cards, and I almost always score low when Megiddo is judge.
Anyways, I also think that Megiddo showed an strange criteria there...

Wow. I made a dragon without flying..

I have no problem with dragons that don't fly, it just seems weird to make a red one that doesn't. Then; Semantics - but fair enough. I'll be more careful with terminology. Then; And, HA! I forgot about proliferate. Good call.
However, the point of my post was not to try to rile you up (which it seems to have - sorry about that), it was merely to get some insight into why a card like that is better than, say, avatarz's. Like I said, I just want to learn some stuff.
And thanks PanchoPonceN; that was one of the initial conclusions I came to. Thought I'd ask for other perspectives on the subject too.

1. Didn't notice it didn't have flying.
2. I was thinking from a limited standpoint. That card would be real dumb in draft or sealed.

Edit: @Megiddo: Note that my mana stone wasn't 1: Level, it was 3: Level. Making it a bit more balanced (and likely unnecessarily frustrating at lower levels).

Yes, they do. For the set, I wanted gold to be a "precious commodity" i.e. you have only one or two gold counters at a time. They're not like Devon Rule's gold counters, where you can amass like an infinite horde of them.
I'm not quite finished with it yet. Once I make the rest of the commons then I might post it on the site. What are common city tropes?
