Cirrus Mesa
Land {R}
Cirrus Mesa enters the battlefield tapped.
When Cirrus Mesa enters the battlefield you may pay (W/U), if you do, creatures you control with flying get +1/+1 until end of turn. T: Add W or U.
IIW: Mettle N (When this blocks or becomes blocked, it gets +N/+N until end of turn.)
Chimeric Nest3
Artifact (U)
Flying
Whenever another creature with flying deals combat damage to a player, put a feather counter on Chimeric Nest. 2: Until end of turn, Chimeric Nest becomes a Bird creature with "This creature's power and toughness are each equal to the number of feather counters in it" in addition to its other types.
Sephon19: The first ability reminds me of Thopter Spy Network which is a little cheaper than this and offers a better source of card draw. In the long game, seven flyers for seven cards doesn't seem like too much of an advantage, but then again this also pushes the flying archetype into a more token/aristocrats build.
VolraththeRisen: This is a very interesting card as it makes playing creatures difficult for everyone and rewards an aggressive playstyle. I'm not sure about the symmetry of the card, but there's something fun about it that I'd be excited to try.
JaceTheBodySculptor: This has some interesting implications. I like the design a lot, but my only issue is that you can sacrifice your flyer for extra damage at the end of the combat phase, because it's still considered attacking even after it's dealt combat damage. Otherwise good job.
Cardz5000: This is a very cool concept for a dual land. It's a little like a better variant of Sandstone Bridge because it works for all your flyers. I would have thought this could have a conditional untapping quality like Ancient Amphitheatre but for flyers/birds, but either way I'm happy with this card.
void_nothing: This card has some pretty nifty flavour to it, and I appreciate the fact that it can't make itself bigger over time as well as that might push it beyond uncommon. Flying tribal has always had a go-wide attitude, and rewarding that strategy with a go tall creature is a really fun thing to achieve.
The winner goes to void_nothing, and our next challenge is More Chimeric Artifacts
Chimeric Lieutenant1
Artifact (C) Lieutenant – At the beginning of combat on your turn, if you control your commander, put a +1/+1 counter on ~. 1: Until end of turn, ~ becomes a 0/0 Construct artifact creature.

IIW: A vertical cycle associated with one of the classic Elder Dragons besides Nicol Bolas.
Chimeric Chimera 3

Chimeric OozeX
Artifact (Rare)
Chimeric Ooze enters the battlefield with X charge counters on it. 3: Chimeric Ooze becomes an Ooze artifact creature with power and toughness equal to the number of charge counters on it. XX, remove X charge counters from Chimeric Ooze: Create a token that's a copy of Chimeric Ooze and put X charge counters on it. X can't be 0.
At the beginning of your upkeep, if Chimeric Ooze has no charge counters on it, you may return it to your hand. Who knew that steel could undergo mitosis?
JamBlock - It is Chimeric, and it has lieutenant, so the name is a little on the nose. I wonder what Commander product theme would have all of the decks using this card (which is what common means in Commmander precons)? Disproportionately favors 1CMC legends, which is at least amusing?
VolrathTheRisen - This is neat. Interesting new way of accomplishing the Chimeric animation mechanic, and the linked deaths is super flavorful. I just really like this card.
Sephon19 - Cute pun but this is really just a Chimeric Staff++ - not that that card is much good under the current design regime, but there's little originality in such a design.
Mergatroid_Jones - Brass-Bell Chimera and Stonefoot Chimera are certainly a clever theme, but do little to solve the inherent parasitism of the original Chimeras, and a reversible "Megazord" thing seems somehow "off" execution-wise. Chimeric Orb is a neat throwback but maybe a bit too precious.
Cardz5000 - Very much feels like an original Zendikar block card. Costs appear to be right, and could make for a centerpiece of a neat Limited deck as well as play a role in Constructed, but all in all the design feels kind of obvious.
Subject16 - This feels entirely like a card I'd design. I love being able to split off the charge counters into a copy, but in the end all those X number of counters on tokens probably makes for too much tracking complexity.

Subject16 - Asmadi & chums SAC - Immediately I realise why it was a bad idea for me to ask for a vertical cycle, because I just don't like how commons are pitched in the modern game. I guess if Furnace Whelp is uncommon then this heap of junk has to be worse than it!
Now we've got past my old man-style prejudices, the other two are all over wonderful. Dragon tribal SHOULD have a punchy X spell exactly like this, and putting it in a vertical cycle with a couple of old fashioned firebreathers is a fantastic balance of flavor & mechanics. Great range of synergistic abilities on the last guy, meaning he has a very different identity in a RG or BR deck, or is an order of magnitude better in BRG. 4/5 EDH - Vaevictis is all about firebreathing & so are these. Ultimately, Vaevictis is about pouring an enormous amount of BRG mana through a dragon... & so is the rare. Nothing not to like here. 4.5/5 TOTAL - 8.5/10
Mergatroid_Jones - Arcades & pals SAC - I really like how the uncommon is better because it's a trimmed-down version of the pointlessly bulked-up body of the common. Love that as a piece of design. The elegance of that comparison even helps me get over my hatred of modern trash commons. So thanks! The rare's token-spawning ability seems a little TOO limited, so isn't splashy enough to offset a blanket +0/+1 feeling dull on a rare.
Love the flavor of the mythic. It still feels a little odd that it needs to attack to get any value out of two of its keywords... but it's also the lowest toughness creature you control & it needs to stay alive to keep protecting your field. 3/5 EDH - Arcades does blanket toughness bonuses. This is a fact. Again just a little odd that the mythic (which should be most Arcades-like) is quite focussed on attacking. Would have been kinda nice to see something here which picked up on either his "ass-breathing" activated ability or the flavor that he gives you a Castle. This is a good sound vertical cycle though! 3.5/5 TOTAL - 6.5/10
JamBlock - Chromium & co SCR - Really nice how the Dragon dependency is a restriction in the common but then becomes a bonus for the rest. Power balance seems on the weak side up until the rare, but this is a nice mechanic to build a vertical set around. Putting an actual Dragon tribal set in non-red is also nicely bold. 4/5 EDH - Okay, so. I totally get that you've disregarded the original Chromium's actual mechanics because he is by far the worst & worst-designed Elder Dragon. It looks like you were picking up from Chromium, the Mutable - in which case these are fine, but a little bit of mutability would have been fun too! 3/5 TOTAL - 7/10
kwanyeegor - Palladia & more SAC - Wow. That is quite an answer to Blightsteel Colossus there! I like this cycle more every time I read it though. It kills things, and it mercilessly kills things MORE if they're trying to be clever to avoid being killed. That's somehow incredibly RGW. Some of the conditions to get the bonus effects are REALLY unlikely - which is really just fun trinket text, even though I guess most judges would see it as a waste of space.
Hating on first/double strike seems a little strange for the colors that provide those abilities - but that's a minor point & I'll ignore it because I love blocker hate. This is a fun vertical cycle, because they get better without just getting bigger at increasing rarities. Also because none of them are trash but they're definitely in the right rarity order. 4/5 EDH - Right, so I like the flavor here a lot. There's just not much here which would make me think of Palladia-Mors if you hadn't told me to. She's "the most vicious of her kin" - so I guess that justifies the merciless hosing of cleverness. Yeah, okay! I'm sold that this FEELS right even though logic tells me there's something missing. 3.5/5 TOTAL - 7.5/10
void_nothing - Chromium & what just happened SAC - I love literally everything about the first two SO MUCH. That's not even overstatement. The effects, the flavor of the mechanics, the flavor text itself. Glorious. But then there is the mythic and... WHAT JUST HAPPENED. Why do those two effects go together? Why is Norin the Wary suddenly a 7/4? I don't understand but I don't think I'm supposed to. 3.5/5 EDH - Somehow the utter strangeness of the mythic feels much more okay from this perspective. You have given a great impression all the way up the cycle of Chromium, the Mutable as an ineffable higher intelligence. The first two cards also have all the delicious mutability which I was reaching for in the other Chromium entry. Those two factors give you license to do something incomprehensible with the third slot. Still feels a bit weird to have WUB trying to turn the game into a big creature slugfest in the middle of the board - but turning all Legends into an upper class of elite killing machines feels appropriately sociopathic. 4/5 TOTAL - 7.5/10
And the winner is....... Subject16!

SAC - Immediately I realise why it was a bad idea for me to ask for a vertical cycle, because I just don't like how commons are pitched in the modern game.
EDH - Vaevictis is all about firebreathing & so are these. Ultimately, Vaevictis is about pouring an enormous amount of BRG mana through a dragon... & so is the rare. Nothing not to like here. 4.5/5
TOTAL - 8.5/10
Mergatroid_Jones - Arcades & pals
SAC - I really like how the uncommon is better because it's a trimmed-down version of the pointlessly bulked-up body of the common.
EDH - Arcades does blanket toughness bonuses. 3.5/5
TOTAL - 6.5/10
JamBlock - Chromium & co
SCR - Really nice how the Dragon dependency is a restriction in the common but then becomes a bonus for the rest. Power balance seems on the weak side up until the rare, but this is a nice mechanic to build a vertical set around. Putting an actual Dragon tribal set in non-red is also nicely bold. 4/5
EDH - Okay, so. I totally get that you've disregarded the original Chromium's actual mechanics because he is by far the worst & worst-designed Elder Dragon. It looks like you were picking up from Chromium, the Mutable - in which case these are fine, but a little bit of mutability would have been fun too! 3/5
TOTAL - 7/10
kwanyeegor - Palladia & more
SAC - Wow.
EDH - Right, so I like the flavor here a lot. There's just not much here which would make me think of Palladia-Mors if you hadn't told me to. She's "the most vicious of her kin" - so I guess that justifies the merciless hosing of cleverness. Yeah, okay! I'm sold that this FEELS right even though logic tells me there's something missing. 3.5/5
TOTAL - 7.5/10
void_nothing - Chromium & what just happened
SAC - I love literally everything about the first two SO MUCH. 3.5/5
EDH - Somehow the utter strangeness of the mythic feels much more okay from this perspective. 4/5
TOTAL - 7.5/10
And the winner is....... Subject16!
