Why would you take an ability that is one line of rules text and make it two lines worth?
Because lines is not the only measure of complexity. This way it uses less words, which matters a lot in creatures that already need to repeat themselves into the equipped creature. Second, Equip functionality is already ingrained in players. Instead of having to read and grok it as a pseudo-equip new ability, you just tack the additional into a very small ability. Equip reminder is practically invisible to players now; it wouldn't be so with Augment.
It's the land-cycling treatment (which actually wasn't half as similar to cycling than augment is to equip.)

It's the land-cycling treatment (which actually wasn't half as similar to cycling than augment is to equip.)
I would argue that augment is less complex than a static ability that augments how equip works. I feel like players learn that creature's can't be equipped to other creatures.
Also, your card doesn't work, because of the above. While there is a state-based action that says:
Quote from Comprehensive Rules »
"704.5q If a creature is attached to an object or player, it becomes unattached and remains on the battlefield. Similarly, if a permanent that's neither an Aura, an Equipment, nor a Fortification is attached to an object or player, it becomes unattached and remains on the battlefield."
there is also another rule that forbids a permanent that is already a creature from ever becoming equipped to a permanent:
Quote from Comprehensive Rules »
301.5c An Equipment that's also a creature can't equip a creature. An Equipment that loses the subtype "Equipment" can't equip a creature. An Equipment can't equip itself. An Equipment that equips an illegal or nonexistent permanent becomes unattached from that permanent but remains on the battlefield. (This is a state-based action. See rule 704.) An Equipment can't equip more than one creature. If a spell or ability would cause an Equipment to equip more than one creature, the Equipment's controller chooses which creature it equips.
While this could be changed, augment is no more complex than living armor and also doesn't require the rules to be retooled to function, because as of now, the permanent has to stop being a creature before it can attach to another creature.
Kaldra, Returned - 3RWU

Had the idea, and almost went colorless, but then I thought about how that would be a harder deck to build than even Karn. I mean, sure, he can track down Worldslayer or Argentum Armor, or even Elbrus, the Binding Blade, and maybe if their were a bunch of artifact augment creatures that could take advantage of it...I don't know though, if it's actually Kaldra and not just a trick from Memnarch seems like a color identity would make sense.
Cythare, I've said it again and again. The reminder of an ability implies rules changes on the background. In this case, 301.5c would be altered for creatures with Living Armor, with no repercussions whatsoever. (704.5q wouldn't apply, because while means the whole time.) It's like you are a robot, refusing to apply the smallest amount of common sense.
The time between Bestow being revealed and the rules changes it brought must have been the most stressful days in your life.

But Augment doesn't require that change and isn't any more complex than Living Armor otherwise!
Changing the rules to accommodate something when there is an alternate option that doesn't require a rules change seems silly, and aside from that, the challenge was specifically to use augment. Also, augment is more in line with bestow than living armor.

I do. Why is it funny?
I really wish people who come calling "this doesn't work within the rules!" would apply this very recent example of a card showcase that would have given them the fits if posted here (though bestow's reminder templating does suck, as said by everyone, me, and even maro today.)
It would be of interest if it couldn't be made to work with the rules, or if it required some effort. When it is extremely simple, pointing out "it doesn't work with the rules" is pedantic.

I don't like this "we must color this legend specifically for EDH purposes" thing.
It was colored, but not just for EDH. As stated, as an actual character him having an identity to his life force just makes sense. It made sense that originally the pieces of his armor wouldn't be colored(and they still aren't.)
I thought about only making him white, but red and blue seem to make sense to me as secondary colors because Kaldra was basically a legendary soldier artificer according to the "legend" of his existence.

I clearly made a card inspired by it.
It fitting the challenge is surely for the judge to decide. Which may very well happen, but I'm not gonna refrain from entering because YOU say so.
This will be put into its owner's graveyard immediately for being a planeswalker with no loyalty counters on it.
>Is spider
>Does not have reach
EDIT:
I'LL BET YOU'RE JELLY

Legendary Creature — Human Artificer [M]
First strike
Each nonland permanent you control has augment x and "Equipped creature gets +X/+0, where X is this permanent's converted mana cost."
When the Phyrexians invaded, Kaldra and his creations disappeared. Only he had mastered artifice and the art of making weapons. But when Mirrodin needed him most, he was gone. Now, in its most fateful hour, he has returned.
4/4
IIW: The first person posts whatever they want, then riff off the last entry before yours
[Clan Flamingo]
Means the same thing, but with outdated templating.
"Effects count Possibility Ooze as though it were each permanent type"?
