"Here only miracles. Here, only the rising of spirit. And yes, love if it was pertinent (which it was so often); and sometimes bloodletting. But never the prosaic, never the trivial. Wow guys. So, the cycle part most of you got, but the "core set" part was largely disregarded which is sad because I liked a lot of the cards, but there's very little chance of them ever ending up in Core Set.
Anyway, here's my take on these guys:
FoshM:
Really nice. The first three are very traditional fantasy... the last two are less so but I don't begrudge that too much. A lot more equal in power level than the real boons. A-
Prospero314:
I like the questing flavor. Wish the names weren't all obviously the same but still okay. Ranger, Thief, and Cleric all seem pretty much awesome, and playable. B+
PanchoPonceN:
I guess I didn't specify, so I'll let the vertical cycle slide. That said, they just seem like, oh, I'll increase the numbers by one each time. Not super interesting at that, I don't know why there are multiples of these. C
Burtelga:
I don't think in my lifetime I'll ever see an XY spell in a new core set. That said, other than that these are okay. But: Why is only the red one XY? Why is only the black one a "choose one:" spell? Not so consistent across the cycle, and the flavor is okay but not really evocative of the sort of high fantasy setting. C.
gamermk:
I like these cards a lot but there won't be colored artifacts in a Core Set... probably ever, but not soon. A for effort, but gotta give em a C since they don't fit in a core set.
swishh:
Pretty nice rare cycle, evokes guilds or clans or something which is pretty okay thematically, but only the black and red one feel like 'schools' to me. The rest are just big splashy enchantments. If you did something more with the triple-mana theme I would have been happier. B
Summon_Legend:
I appreciate this just as much as the next guy, but mechanically, this isn't a cycle until you stare REALLY HARD. Additionally, there's a colored artifact in it which disqualifies it as above. Good cards, but not for this challenge. C.
Marco:
I wish I had given a challenge that allowed cards like this. These guys are like little mini-decrees, and I loved this effect, but unless Cycling is the next visitor mechanic after scry, I don't see these happening, and even if it IS the next one I don't think they'll do anything this interesting with it. Beginners probably don't like not playing their creature even if it is just a vanilla, and the creatures themselves are just vanillas, so otherwise these are nice cantrips. Also not a fan that just the black one gets the double mana in the cost, but I can understand why. B-
CrazyMatt:
These are way way way way good. I dunno but they are so good that I don't believe they can be real Compare the green one to summoning trap. And the BLACK one is the rare with the drawback? C
Sir Aureas:
Yay! I love little utility guys. Fume Spitter is my homie. Each of these has a really flavorful and in-color effect, and the tightness around the number two is nice (although the white one can do 4 ;P). These seem very realistic, although Goblin Arsonist exists and that sort of indicates something about these guys' power levels. A-
Oculus:
Nice, iconic, on-color effects. Green one seems very situational, red and black one seems very good. Phrased for maximum multiplayer hurt, I see. Not terribly evocative of anything I'd read in a fantasy novel aside from the mage type name things, which match better when you add the flavor text.
A-
Rudyard:
These are nifty, but not terribly evocative of their color and not terribly evocative of fantasy environments in general... they're just regular animals (except maybe that tricky snake.) Not my favorites, but I like the idea behind them. B
JonFuryZacharias:
Whaaaat kind of cycle is this? One of every TYPE and RARITY and whooooa man... okay gimme a second.
...
I'm back. On the wings of the Wise and the Helm don't seem to make sense. I understand that it works with "cards" but those don't seem to synergize with the others as well... one of them turns all the rest into a nice mill engine, which is cute, but doesn't seem to fit. The wings has a combat damage trigger rather than a "opponent draws" trigger, which makes it seem more blue/black. The land... might be too good, I think. Tutoring forever is a really good ability, probably worth two cards. If you have the sphinx out, then drawing a card on top of that... wow, super super good. These are pretty solid, although I think they'd be wasted on a core set. A for effot, B for this challenge.
Had semenulative upkeep before it was fashionable. Look what you forced me to do, Wizards! IT DIDN'T HAVE TO GO DOWN LIKE THIS!

Cool concept. The equipment is okay for any deck but really shines in a red one. Great limited card, but it would probably suffer from the “Fireball” effect. It is so good that any deck will take it even if they aren’t in red. Cheats the spirit of the 2 casting cost rule, but that is to be expected in WiJ games. B+
Improvised Weapon 2

Reminds me of Banshee’s Blade because of the costs and counters. Probably much better as it took so much work to get blade up and running. Flavorful, break an artifact use it to bash. The more powerful the equipment is, the more of a sacrifice you had to make. Well Done. A
It’s a combat trick and more. Usually this effect has cost a bit more in the past is my only concern. Magewright’s Stone is a fairly recently printed card, cost 2 only untaps some specific creatures (those with activated abilities that require a tap) and still costs 1 to activate. I feel like this is just to0 undercosted. B-

Now this is a fun card. I just so happen to love these type of jinxed cards, they just rub me the right way. This card is so good vs. control decks. Sac a creature gain a personal howling mine. There is just so much to love here. A

Hm… I’m not 100% about this card. It acts like a “free mulligan” just like Serum Powder, however its effect if drawn is much better. Currently it also powers up metalcraft. Also, I don’t know that I’d like a deck to be able to run both this and Powder. All that said it is creative and well designed for what it is you want it to do. B+

Myr.dec huh. This card doesn’t do much by itself, but that’s the idea. A new use for myr, seem somewhat fragile though, and also very unilateral. It decreased deck design instead of increasing it with this type of card, as you basically say, if you run this you must run 16-20 other myr. Have 2 of these is where things start to get fun. Now if only I could give my mana myr haste we’d be in buisness. B+
Ring of Ice 2

Equip 2 (2: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery.)

I would have liked this SO much more without the instant speed equip ability. While it is flavorful, the ability isn’t THAT much better than the regular equip ability that only blue mages can run it or would draft it. I still very much so like the card however, build your own Icy. B+
Treasure Detector 2
Artifact (U) t, Sacrifice Treasure Detector: Choose a card type. Reveal cards from the top of your library until you reveal a card of the chosen type. Focused card draw, getting you exactly what you need every time. All for 2 colorless mana. No thanks. This is a tutor for any deck that runs only 1 creature, 1 sorcery etc. Also, 2 mana to always get your Jace seems a little too good. D
1WW,t, : Exile target creature. Return that card to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of the next end step.

IIW: Make a card based on your favorite MTGS moderator. It doesn't has to be a creature.
[Clan Flamingo]
