Soooo... Anybody know what's going on with Round 2? Its the 15th almost the 16th and I haven't even seen anything about who's judging what... or what this big twist is.
I'm just an eager participant wanting to know what's up!
I'm curious... have the judges been secretly told who they're judging already? Or are they still in the dark like the rest of us? Having no one get judged would certainly be a surprise...
Edit: Wow, what are the odds I'd be sarnath'd?

Retrodrome, your one stop site for everything nostalgic.
According to the first post, the judges have all been PMed their judgees - Howler already posted his (Fernin, IT'S ON!) but I guess everyone else just hasn't got around to it yet.
Yes, I got my PM on Saturday, and it was sent to everyone at once, so all the judges should know who they're judging. Unless they don't check PMs, in which case they are a poor judge.
As you've already noticed, each bracket will be judged by TWO judges. The judge pair will judge both cards completely, and the scores of both judges will be added together to determine who is the winner.
The judge pair is encouraged to discuss their judgings to each other by PM, even before or after judgings are given.
In the event of a tie, the card that got the highest score from a single judge moves on:
Example (Judge 1 is underlined; judge 2 is italicized; bold score is the highest score):
Player A: 17 + 21 = 38
Player B: 23 + 15 = 38
If the highest score still ties, the scores will be broken down by category, then for each category a judge scores a player higher than the other, he gets one tiebreaker point.
Example: Both players have 22+17 scores.
Judge 1:
Player A: 2+7+4+2+2 = 17
Player B: 2+8+4+3+3 =22 (+3)
Judge 2:
Player A: 2+9+5+4+2= 22 (+3)
Player B: 2+7+3+1+3 = 17 (+1)
Total Tiebreakers:
Player A: 3 Player B: 4
If it still ties after this point, then we'll accept the tie.

Also, can anyone confirm if all the submissions are on time? I still have difficulty converting time zones...
This seems like a great way to get "fairer" judgings. However, I do worry about timeliness considering judges not only have to judge the cards, they also may need to work with each other.
It will be interesting to see how this works out!

As it was observed by Burning Ninja, Stax's card "can't hit black or indestructible creatures, and it can't go turn 1." Things taken care of in Surge's card.
I'm not questioning the judges' decisions, just trying to make sure they have all the information. I should probably stop worrying about the judges and just focus on designing my own cards, and then trying to be a judge next time maybe. I just get annoyed when I see something a judge might have missed, because I feel that it should be pointed out, but I feel like a jerk doing it
Just to bring their attention to it before the judging of this round closes (whenever that may be): I have sent Lorgalis and andreoti16 PMs concerning their judgings of my card.
Hmm, you're right, they are similar. But they are not identical. Surge's card is black and white, has a two mana casting cost, and can target black creatures. Oh, and it's a different rarity. Giving Surge the benefit of the doubt, it is possible that players come up with similar ideas every once in a while.
Yeah, I also think he probably just came up with the same idea and didn't see the other one. (I think he SHOULD have seen the other one, but that's a different matter.) If he had seen Stax's card, he probably wouldn't have taken the risk of making such a similar card.
Wow, you're right Milldawg, my card is very similar to Stax's! I'm sorry about that. I had the idea rolling around in my head for False Accusation for a while and completely overlooked that Stax had posted a simliar card in the previous round. If I had known, I would have posted a different card.
Next time I'll have to pay more attention. Again sorry Stax, I don't want you to think that I ripped off your idea.
My one gripe with my judgings is that Lorgalis took 1 full point off of my quality score for not having a rarity in the text version of my card. I guess I understand some deduction for not having a rarity in this month because rarity matters for the sake of the contest, but I've never had any deduction for not having a rarity before (nor have I ever seen it). Is this typically a requirement for this contest? I didn't put an artist credit in the text of the card either, and it has exactly the same bearing on the rules the rarity does (none). Considering that the penalty for forgetting your card text entirely is one point, this seems harsh.
A missing rarity can make it difficult to judge balance, since a card that's fine as a rare might cripple Limited as a common or uncommon. If you had a rarity in a render, but didn't indicate it in the text version, it's custom to dock points for inconsistencies between the two. How much can vary between judges, so unless you see someone with a similar mistake get less of a deduction, unfortuneately there's not much to raise an issue about.
No artist credit on the text version makes sense, since there's technincally no art to credit in the text version.

The issue is that now we have a standard: No text == 1 point. So partial missing text cannot be a full point deduction unless it makes the card functionally different.

I am curious to know how people feel about this rounds system of judging. Was it effective? Was it more definitive than the previous method? Does it mitigate the "judge bias" factors?
I'm pretty satisfied with the results, but I am a little biased given that it worked in my favour (at least this time).
Thoughts?
