Welcome One and All
to Penguinwriter's Challenge.
Anyone can play, no matter whether you've played before or not.
VERY IMPORTANT NOTEs: RESTRUCTURED BONUS SYSTEM. PLEASE READ IT.
THIS ROUND IS A DAY SHORTER THAN THE LAST ROUND WAS.
(This is to help my schedule accomodate the next round, which is going to be longer.)
That said, THANK YOU EVERYONE for making this the most voted poll-competition currently on the forums. I hope you all enjoyed round 1 as much as I did.
The structure of the event: 8 or 10 rounds (to be decided at the conclusion of round 3) decided by public poll where everyone and anyone can participate, cutting to a top X, where X is number of different people who have won at least one round. This way newcomers can compete but the consistent players have more chances. It seems like the fairest way to still have a top group. Also, in the finals, for each round you win after the first, you get a bonusin each of the finals rounds. The finals would cut the group in half each time, eliminating the bottom half rounded up, until we're left with two who duke it out for ultimate victory.
-Players can come and go as they please, but scores are cumulative, so play every round you can. And be sure to vote. Each player gets 1 "whoops" where they can still play even if they forgot to vote, though. So if you miss a poll for whatever reason, you're ok once.
-The challenges will be quirky, as will some of the other prompts to inspire the challenge.
-It will be fun, and not only for me.
-Rounds run from 3-5 days depending on both my schedule and what i'm asking of you, followed by 2-3 days of voting.
-Renders are fine, but totally not necessary to play.
-Whatever you have when the round ends is your submission. Edit and change as much as you want, but if i see that the post is edited after round closing, the entry will not count. Much like the FCC, basically.
Anything else should be clear. If not, PM me. If more than one person asks me something, I'll add the info to this post and this is my first time hosting anything so that very well may happen.
Current Finalists, fighting for bonus points in the finals. (2 points in EACH finals round for each preliminary round won after the first, so if I were you, I'd keep playing)
GetItWrong - Winner: Round 1
Well let's get right to this round's Challenge:
This challenge is two-fold. The winning card was the Jack of Diamonds, the "number" and suit each having their own contribution to the challenge, both of which were predetermined before you even chose your cards. The Jack aspect is inspired by "Jacks or Better," the lowest winning condition in a poker game, and it is this: Design a card that benefits from having cards with the same name in a certain zone. For good examples of this, see relentless rats or the "burst" cycle from odyssey. The diamonds aspect is much simpler. The card's flavor must have something to do with wealth, riches, money, etc. Interpret that part as you will, but I don't want to see any explanations of why the flavor works. It should be obvious.
Bonus Points:
Now that we are not doing cumulative scoring, I have revamped the way bonus works to a much simpler, point based system. There are a series of criteria each of which has a number of points next to it, planeswalker style. This should be self explanatory. If you meet a "+2" bonus condition you get 2 extra points added to your vote total for the round. Do a "+2" and a "+1" and you get 3, so on and so forth. Also, this means I can penalize anybody who takes the easy way out by having a "-1" condition (I know I could just as easily have a "+1" that says "does not do blah blah blah" but I think a minus sign makes it more blaringly clear this is something I do not want. You can try defying me if you have a really good idea, though.)
Bonuses:
+2: The card is not a permanent.
+1: The card has between 1 and 7 words of flavor text, not including the name of a person quoted. (You can have a seven word quote and still cite it. The name of the speaker/source does not count towards the number of words.)
+1: The card uses a custom keyword that does NOT fulfil the "Jack" condition (the keyword must not care about cards with the same name.)
Anti-Bonuses:
-1: The card uses a new Shadowmoor keyword.
-2: The card has the relentless rats "you can have any number" clause.
(Note: When I make the polls, I will have your name, your card, AND your bonus score)
Finally, here is your prompt for next round. This week's winner's answer will play a role in next round's challenge, and I must say the challenge is probably a bit obvious based on the prompt, but let me just say this. You will have 5 days for next round. It's gonna be really tricky, especially if the winning choices make it so. PLEASE PUT THIS IS YOUR SUBMISSION POST
Two parts:
First part: choose a color among WUBRG
Second part: choose any ONE of the following: tokens, mana, damage, prevent damage, gain life, loss of life, card draw, -1/-1, +1/+1, or the mystery box (ooooo.)

Good luck to all!
