Congratulations on making it to the final round! (There is only one round so don’t feel too congratulated.)
Welcome to the first ever FDC here in MTG Salvation. We, the FDC staff have provided you with materials to create a custom deck. The rules here are simple (not really. They’re quite complex but if i mentally hypnotise you to think it’s simple, you’ll think it is. :P)
We give you the name of the deck, the names of the cards, rarity, numbers and a mechanic and you build a deck based on those facts. Synergy, Balance and Flavor are the keys to victory. Here’s the point breakdown:
Synergy(5/25): How well the cards combo with one another. Balance(5/25): The balance of the cards. Creativity and Flavor(5/25): The Coolness of the cards and if they flow with creative ideas. Improvability of the Deck(5/25): How well can you improve this deck with the current MTG cardpool. General Wording(3/25): Wording issues of the cards created. ???(2/25): The ??? card you create.
Bonus points:
You get one bonus point if you render the entire cardpool. (I.E. Renders are not Required! :D)

The mechanic is... ‘Fabricate’. Feel free to use your own interpretation.
This is your card pool: Bleak Outlook C 1 Consuming Darkness C 2 Contaminated Experiment C 4 Curse of the Breathless C 1 Expulse C 3 Foolhardy Fatemage C 2 Glacial Void C 2 Overthrow C 1 Prismatic Engine C 2 Shroud of Corruption C 1 Voidmage’s Disdain C 3 Changing Destinies U 1 Cursed Fatemage U 2 Decadence U 1 Oblivion Staff U 1 Providence U 1 Shadowstep U 2 Solemn Guardian U 1 Secretive Fortress U 1 ??? ??? Is a card you design. You give it your own name and such. Just remember that this is worth 2 whole points. Try to make it be one of the best. You can interpret the card types how you wish. The number is the number of copies of that card in the deck and the CUR is the rarity.
Judgings in:
The contest will last 3 weeks and the judges will commence their judgings afterwards for about one week. Please put things in spoilers as to avoid ‘plagiarism’.
P.S.
If anyone fails to show up, a slot will be left open and any people who are not currently signed up may take their place. First come, first serve. Good luck and have fun!
Take all questions to the discussion thread which is here..
Fate fractures as one man comes to rule over it. The evil High Fatemage Krevher launched a campaign against Kascaria, forever damning the landscape. Those who could fight rallied against his undead legions, but it was Krevher who gained triumph through Fatemagic. With the High Oblivion Staff, Treskor, Krevher was able to erase the history of all who opposed him. The energy consumed and released in this endeavour shattered Treskor, but Krevher remained, unopposed, and soon came to rule over Kascaria.
The "Controlled Destiny" deck is designed to allow you control over that which doesn't exist anymore - in fact, with your fate-magic, time itself will be in your grasp.
"Controlled Destiny" brings a whole new concept to "Removed from the game". No longer will cards be useless when removed; cards such as Doomscape and Providence allow you to bring back cards that your opponent thought were gone forever! Throw in cards which will rip your opponent's library apart such as Decadence, and your opponent will soon be drawing nothing while you reuse your removed cards again and again and again!
The fun doesn't stop when it's removed! It just keeps coming back!
Fabricate X (Search target player's library for up to X cards and remove them from the game.)

Designer's notes: This was an interesting exercise in deck creation and card design and I am happy with my output. My initial thoughts regarding the Fabricate mechanic were probably the same as most other people's initial thoughts, that it should have something to do with artifacts (a la Fabricate) or manufacturing or assembling... (Contraptions?)
But then I looked up Fabricate on good old dictionary.com and discovered:
1. to make by art or skill and labor; construct: The finest craftspeople fabricated this clock.
2. to make by assembling parts or sections.
3. to devise or invent (a legend, lie, etc.).
4. to fake; forge (a document, signature, etc.).
and
1. To make; create.
2. To construct by combining or assembling diverse, typically standardized parts: fabricate small boats.
3. To concoct in order to deceive: fabricated an excuse.
Which lead me to Fabricate as in to lie or deceive. I created this mechanic based on Liar's Pendulum:
Fabricate(When you play this spell, name a card. Target opponent guesses whether a card with that name is in your hand. Reveal your hand. If your opponent guessed wrong, you lose two life and you draw 2 cards.)
I like this mechanic, but I shelved it because it didn't have synergy with the other cards in this deck, particularly the marquee card, Malicious Daydream...
And away we go...I'm actually heading to Providence, Rhode Island soon to work on a project simulating rubber. I'll be sure to work in a reference in the card of that name.

Actually, he said that we had until midnight tonight.
And I still can't get it done.
I tried a mini-combo deck; playtesting at the X-Release showed that was a really bad idea. Then this control just isn't working... And I don't have time to do another, since I have another tourney tonight, followed by the HP release.
Ack, I'd totally forgotten about this. Well, I'll go with what I had.

If anyone fails to show up, a slot will be left open and any people who are not currently signed up may take their place. First come, first serve. Good luck and have fun!

Forgotten Arts

Fabricate (When you play this spell, name a card.
Make a card called Long For This World.
