Okay, to finally put the inaugural edition of the CCL to bed, here are the finalists' entries for this theme:

Future Sight includes cards from potential future world settings: Street Wraith is from a Gothic-style plane, while Muraganda Petroglyphs and Imperiosaur suggests a prehistoric setting.
Your task: create a potential world setting for a futureshifted card, then create a card that highlights that world's flavor.
And here is what our two entrants, genesys and spreadingdark have come up with:

There is a plane in the multiverse, just like any other plane, but where we can find a similarity with our Ancient Egypt and some other cultures, like Maya. It is rich in tropical forests, with its tribes, beasts and elementals. It has deserts, with human civilizations exploring river shores and oasis. It has mountains and dark caves. Still, there's an entriguing thing about that plane: the tropical forests and deserts have pyramids (Maya and Egypt style) that humans, the dominant race on the plane, cannot explain, the mountains have perfectly sculpted chambers and caverns, that humans also cannot explain. They believe their Gods created those for them.
Still, one day, those Gods came back to their plane, and claim it to them. It seems like they are no Gods but only travellers from another plane who wish to take over what once was their plane. Now all the tribes and civilizations must join forces in order to foil those attempts. Will they succeed?
Card: Anubis, Jackal God :4mana::symb::symb: Legendary Creature - Human Hound
Extraplanar :3mana::symb::symb: (If this card is in your opening hand, you may remove it from the game with a divinity counter on it. If this card has a divinity counter on it, you may play it from outside the game for its extraplanar cost.)
As long as Anubis, Jackal God is in play, you may play creature cards from outside the game.
If a creature card would be put into your graveyard and Anubis is removed from the game, remove it from the game instead.

In a plane across the multiverse from Dominaria, disaster has struck. The sole tiny world at the heart of this plane, which used to be quite ordinary and unassuming, was unwittingly linked to Dominaria through a strange twist in the strands of space itself. The connection happened to be to an area known as Tolaria.
One day, Tolaria got nuked. And the tiny plane, known as Scralys, suffered much the same fate.
Millenia later, the few life forms that survived the devastation have evolved to live on the fallow, blackened plane, dealing with sandstorms, clouds of acidic content and heat waves that leave swaths of flame across the landscape. Some of the sentient beings have formed or found various magical and physical barriers to protect themselves from the conditions. Many wild animals have simply evolved, or learned to hide from the storms when they are at their worst. The ruined plane still has life, though the hardships faced by those living there are great.
Meanwhile, the remains of the civilization that lived before these survivors still litter the landscape. Gigantic beings of artifice. Ruins of castles. Skeletons melted into rock. The scattered cultures that have grown to know these mysterious remnants of yore study them often, attempting to glean information as to how the "Great Disaster" came about, how to prevent it if it were to happen again, or how to use the knowledge of the elder civilization to protect them from the storms, which seem to grow stronger every year...
Card: Colossi Rusting Grounds
Legendary Land
At the beginning of each of your main phases, add to your mana pool. The sandstorm scraping against the metal shell constantly sprinkles the area with magically infused dust. Whether it was this dust or the armored plating that protected the beings hiding inside from the Great Disaster, none can say.
I'll leave the poll open for three days. Let's get us a winner!
I like genesys' card marginally better than I like spreadingdark's, but I far prefer spreadingdark's setting to "omg mayas and egyptians" The whole thing about the people joining forces to repel an extraplanar invasion sounds like, well, Invasion, and mortals vs. gods is Kamigawa block. Also, I don't like using real-life specific names of mythological characters in MTG, so no Anubis.
Thanks for the congratulations everyone (and the votes, I'll pay you guys off later )
SALAd, despite your apparent lack of confidence, I really think the CCL is a great idea and has the makings of a long-term Salvation staple. The fact that you let us judge each other's work instead of assigning judges to do it is a great touch, because it means that interactivity between the players is promoted, and it's really fun. I kept looking forward to what the best players in the league like Abs, genesys, and LGMhorus (actually all the leaguers this time were great, even those who bombed out early) had in store this week. So, thanks for making such a great idea reality!
