idk, then I wanted to try and match CryptidKarp
So it’s a 1 mana 3/2. While 1 damage or a -1/-1 effect can technically kill this before it transforms, there are no used kill spells right now that would kill a 1/1 and not a 3/2.
Not balanced, though I will respect that it follows the rules.

I was going to say, that's why I like the second one better (my initial concept).
Ironically, I was thinking about a flying one like:
At the beginning of your upkeep, this creature gets +1/+2 and gains flying until end of turn or gets +7/+7 and gains defender until the beginning of your next turn.
That would probably be better for the Acolyte of Justice.

Ability wise, that's a much more white creature. However, giving your creature +7/+7 and defender for your turn is kind of meaningless (unless you are trying to create cornercase synergy with Assault Formation effects), and letting the bonus last until your next turn would be way too strong for a 2-3 mana card.

Oh, you're right. I did mean until beginning of next turn for that one.
I was also thinking +10/+10 at first, and then maybe just +0/+10, but decided Righteousness was enough and cool enough too.

Lava Dart and Wren and Six. Not saying that this would in any way make this a proper downside on a 1 drop though.
That said, it is less powerful than Dragon's Rage Channeler, and while that card isn't necessarily active on turn two, it isn't really something you need to build around either, thanks to fetchlands.

This would work at 1R, and maybe with a trinket upside like "When this creature dies, discard a card. If you do, draw a card."
