The Custom Card Random Card of the Day for 4/20/19 is Akoum Hellkite.
What would be neat would be a cycle of landfallers that cared about whether the land was the basic type associated with an off color. For instance, the white one counting Islands.
Let me just say that I prefer landfall that is enhanced with the correct basic land type over "mountainfall" that outright doesn't do anything unless you match the basic land type.

Your maximum hand size is five Landfall Domain — Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, draw a card for each basic land type among lands you control.
Zendikar's Timelessness3WW
Creature - Elemental Avatar (R)
First strike, lifelink Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you gain 3 life and untap up to two nonland permanents you control. If that land is a Forest, instead you gain 6 life and untap up to four nonland permanents you control.

Heir of Wrexial2BB
Creature - Kraken (R)
Whenever Heir of Wrexial becomes the target of a spell an opponent controls, that player loses life equal to Heir of Wrexial's power. Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature and that creature gains menace until end of turn. If that land is an Island, instead put two +1/+1 counters on that creature and that creature can't be blocked until end of turn.

The Custom Card Random Card of the Day for 5/6/19 is Dune Beetle.
If you're going to make a vanilla, you should at least give it good flavor text. (I think this particular flavor text is fine - not the best, but good.)
Oh my god, this is terrible. What does this have to do with phoenixes? Why is the ability so bad? For the cost, I'd make him a 1/3, have it be a regular tap ability for +1/+3 and maybe grant flying. Still an awful legend for the commander community and the legendariness is useless in other kinds of constructed (And is near irrelevant in limited). This would need a host of second passes to be good enough for print.
The Custom Card Random Card of the Day for 5/12/19 is Panther Warriors.
What an odd p/t ratio. Still, it holds up versus today's common creatures, and the Cat Warriors of Urborg and Yavimaya(?) were technically the first creatures to use something like the current race + class creature type system.
That is a might punishing drawback, but I suppose it's balanced out by the option to tap for colorless. You've really got to want that colored mana.
This seems both good and balanced, I could see it being reprinted for real in standard. Perhaps an option for a core set in place of a cycle of rare lands, that would free up some rare slots and allow an interesting uncommon land cycle to shine.
The Custom Card Random Card of the Day for 5/23/19 is An-Zerrin Ruins.
That's pretty strange. An-Zerrin was a fortress town in Koskun that was slaughtered by the Baron and nothing else is known of it. What that has to do with the card's effect and art...
Bizarre. A flavor mess and mechanically breaks the color pie.
They probably told the artist the name of the card, but not what it did, or who the An-Zerrins were, so he just made something that looked cool.
I know there were R&D problems in homelands, I'd guess the effect vs the flavor were designed independently, then merged without care to the result.
Especially interesting is that, in this era many creatures types were just part of their names again, giving large numbers of creatures unique creature types and significantly weakening the effect compared to how we view it from this end of history.
I think that Ulgrotha has plenty of story left to mine, and we could return there in a future set. They're just unduly influenced by the poor perception of the Homelands set, and inaccurately attribute the story and flavor of Ulgrotha a share of that negative perception.
The town is slaughtered but the ruins stays behind as testament of the Baron's power and cruelty, making people unwilling to defy him. This fear tactics translates well in the card effect - you choose the creature type you want to dominate and the chosen type won't untap. It's a nice touch the effect is symmetrical and terrorizing one group will keep then down even when they work for you.
The art is strange, the stone faces are pretty random detail that takes over. Art on that time was very inconsistent anyway. I mean, homelands have ton of identical creatures with completely different looks ! But it was awesome regardless, past the inconsistencies.
And to be honest I think the pendulum have swung too far in the other direction. I absolutely hate how every guildmage in Ravnica looks like the same person. I get they wear uniforms but Ravnica is suppose to be a city-plane, are you telling me every boros unit in the whole planet wear the same uniform ? There aren't different units or different chapters for the same unit ? So much for world building...
You can debate and debate over how monowhite this card really is. Frankly it's not the worst hybrid color pie offense in its block and it's a classic combo design.
I absolutely love Swans of Bryn Argoll, and really hate that it found its way into such a dull combo. I have never played it in a deck with Seismic Assault.
Really, it's neither monowhite nor monoblue, they were reaching on many of these hybrid cards in shadowmoor since they didn't allow themselves to use proper multicolored cards. As a rare it's fine though, it's not egregiously far from either white or blue.
I'm a big fan of these cards that force your opponent to do something ostensibly positive. Forced Fruition is probably more on-the-nose about it, but this tickles that bone as well. You like card advantage? Choke on your card advantage and die!
Why the word "Empyrial" - as in "Empyrial Armor" (and meaning "pertaining to the highest level of Heaven") means "Maro boost", I don't know.
