I've been pondering a mechanic called "reminisce," and I was hoping to get some input on it. It's a keyword action performed by putting a card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.
Sage of the ForgottenG
Creature — Elf Shaman (C)
As Sage of the Forgotten enters the battlefield, you may reminisce. If you do, Sage of the Forgotten enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.(To reminisce, put a card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.)
1/1
Scorchwood Loremaster1G
Creature — Elf Shaman (C)
When Scorchwood Loremaster enters the battlefield, you may reminisce. If you do, draw a card. (To reminisce, put a card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.)
2/2
Storytelling Ritual1G
Sorcery (C)
Put the top four cards of your library into your graveyard, then reminisce. You may return a card put into your graveyard this way to your hand if you reminisced about a land this turn. ((To reminisce, put a card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.)
Neglected Monument
Land — Desert (R)
As Neglected Monument enters the battlefield, you may reminisce. If you don't, it enters the battlefield tapped. (To reminisce, put a card from your graveyard on the bottom of your library.) T: Add C, W, or B to your mana pool.
Interesting. I like Neglected Monument quite a bit. Not sure I like "if you reminisced about a land" on Storytelling Ritual. Perhaps just "if you reminisced a land card."
Overall, I don't dislike reminisce, and I find it flavorful, but I definitely want to see more cards and understand the rest of the environment in which they would live.
Also, Storytelling Ritual could use a templating adjustment.
It is a hard mechanic to view in a vacuum, isn't it? I'm revisiting an old set idea and this was in the ideas page, so I thought I'd try to see what people think. There weren't as many cards in the file for it as I thought, so I pooped out Storytelling Ritual and now I realize it's not great as a result.
The set:
• Has a small number of C cost cards (hence the C on the land)
• Has no blue cards
• Includes Sift (As you draw this card, you may pay 1 to reveal it and put it into your graveyard. If you do, put the top card of your library into your hand.)
Yes, it's very tough. No, blue cards sounds very interesting. Will you be posting your set in custom set area as you build it up? My favorite C matters card I've come accross is Purify Mana and it might fit well into your set depending. Here it it:
Purify ManaX
Instant
Add X to your mana pool.
Draw a card.
I'm not sure if I will or not. It's not a very "realistic" set idea, and I'm going back to the concept stage with it since I had worked myself into a corner I didn't like.
This seems very much like a gating mechanic. You cannot abuse it unlless you fill it up, but then again GYs are easy to fill up. What I like about it is in limited, where you get to experience bombs again. Limited will require a higjer density of anawers I guess.

MtG is where you can hate white players or black players, and still not be racist.
I like the flavor and wording of "reminisce about a land" etc. Should it be able to hit the opponent's graveyard too? Putting your own stuff back to the bottom doesn't really do much except that you have to get stuff in the graveyard first, but it's a good 'cost' that can be designed for both small and large effects.
Reminisce should not work with all graveyards - you want to the hoop to jump through to fill your target graveyard and the interplay becomes weird if working towards your own goal also involves filling the graveyard for the opponent if they use reminisce as well.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Ha, no way.
This makes 56 card decks, which is a bonus for ANY deck, but combo decks in particular.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
