Hey all,
I'm trying to come up with a name for this keyword.
Keyword [cost] ([cost]: Exile this permanent. Return it to the battlefield under its owner's control at the beginning of your next upkeep.)
I'm trying to 'redesign' Phasing, and using this mostly for Spirits and Wizards. White and Blue, maybe some black.
The flavor of it's use will be due to temporal rifts being ripped open in the plane and those who have the power to enter these rifts and return use them to their advantage.
Any suggestions are welcome.
Be aware that returning the creature to the battlefield at the beginning of your next upkeep is a big drawback over the typical form of flicker abilities that return at the beginning of the next end step. Returning creatures will be summoning sick again every time you flicker them, and if you save them from removal on your turn, they will be exiled during your opponents entire turn.
Also, there is a strange interaction if a creature with this ability changes controllers. If used on a creature that has changed control, it will return under it's owner's control, but do so on it's prior controller's, not its owner's, next upkeep. There's nothing in the rules that don't allow this, but it would be confusing in practice.
As for a name, effects that temporarily remove a permanent from the battlefield are typically called Flicker, after the forerunner card Flicker, or less often Blink, after Blinking Spirit.
I would go with something different, especially if you're trying to follow phasing more than flickering.
Warp? That sounds sufficiently timey and movey to me.

I wouldn't be surprised if a substantial segment of the audience would intutively hear "warp a creature" and think more Warp Flesh than Warp Drive. The flavor could go into any number of directions, really: Rescue, redeploy, teleport, shift, maneuver, disappear, .
I think it would be wise to add haste to the creature if it enters during the beginning of a turn to match the expectations of phasing.
On another note: I have experimented with returning phasing or better "phase out" as a keyword action only. The mechanic becomes much more digestible like that - without thestigma of a drawback ability.

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

Shimmer would work I think. If Bounce or flicker aren't being considered.

Don't hold so fast to your idea of what Magic and the Color Pie is or should be. Just because it was done in the past, but isn't done in the present doesn't mean it can't be done at all. Likewise, just because it wasn't done at all doesn't mean it can't be done.
Here's a tip: If you suggest changing a card...it's helpful to suggest HOW it should be changed.
Every time I read a comment about "Well if this card had card draw/trample/haste/indestructible/hexproof/life gain...", I think "You're missing the point." They're armchair developer comments that fail to take into account the card's role in the greater Limited and Standard environment. No, it may not be as good as whatever card you're comparing it to. There's a reason for that. Not every burn spell is Lightning Bolt, nor does it need to be or should be.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."
