My first attempt at a custom card.
Needs some flavor text about tossing flaming limbs as spears or something. Elegant, flavorful and a nice throwback, I hope!
Flamekin Javelineers
Creature - Elemental Soldier (U)
Flamekin Javelineers enters the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it.
Remove a +1/+1 counter from Flamekin Javelineers: Flamekin Javelineers deals 1 damage to target creature or player.
0/1
This seems quite reasonable. Its power is below the high end and has plenty of room to grow with synergy within a set. Red doesn't regularly play with +1/+1 counters but as long as its in an environment where they are common then this is fine. As a standalone card it is slightly out of place but within acceptable bounds.
It obsoletes cards like mogg fanatic, which is a perfectly fine card. And that's for just being a standalone card, excluding interactions with +1/+1 counters.

I would even see a version of this at mythic with red/green symbol and evolve. Like "Rubbarb, Flamekin Pyrojavelineer" or some sutch nonsense. He would have crazy synergy.
Good point. For flavor (it's throwing limbs) I'd add a "tap" sign to the ability. That way it doesn't obsolete Mogg Fanatic because Fanatic can be activated instantly.

There are some common mechanical differences that could come up, such as a damage prevention spell choosing the permanent as a source or a deathtouch giver being removed in response to damage.
Fanatic wins those situations and other niche ones, like enabling Morbid or triggering Dictate of Erebos.
The proposed card still has a better average case and a higher upside, but I don't think it needs to be any further differentiated.
Yeah, I can see the comparison vs. Mogg Fanatic, it feels kinda bad to render a classic card (mostly) obsolete. I feel like the creatures being designed by Wizards these days might have a slightly increased powerlevel.
I thought about and hesitated to add the tap symbol because I thought some of the appeal of a card like this would be to find ways to add counters to it and potentially be able to kill creatures with 2 or more toughness. It would provide a way to be nicer to old Mogg Fanatic though. It would also give the card some additional similarity to its predecessor, Icatian Javelineers, but render it mostly worse :/
Maybe haste, and adding the tap symbol? Haste would give it more of a 'red' feel, and it would be differentiated from Fanatic in that it couldn't attack and deal damage in the same turn.
Haste and tapping for the ability sounds good; according to Village Messenger and Monastery Swiftspear we can put a lot of upsides on a hasty 1-drop these days.
I like it. Despite making Mogg Fanatic look a little worse, it's not like Mogg Fanatic already hasn't had a hard knock. Plus this just feels right in red.

Thanks for the feedback!
