MTG Salvation

I use M&Ms for both tokens and counters, and I don't like the idea of trying to stack M&M counters on top of an M&M token.

So how about...

2BB, T, sac a creature, remove X -1/-1 counters from this: Put an X/X black Vampire creature token with flying into play.

Also, I'd probably like this guy better as a 5/5 for 3BB.

Interesting card. It's better for decking purposes than Stroke of Genius, but Stroke could also dig. I suppose it's good as a Scry variant.

Yes, the Evoke is supposed to be colorless. If they can do Rod of Ruin, then a one-shot Shock is printable.

X-Ray Sealed Fate says that your too cheap. Also compare to Psycic Drain, again saying your to cheap. It's a nice idea, but up the cost at to at least BU1X.

Wielder of the Rod - I'm trying to figure out if he would be overpowered w/ T: 2 damage without an extra cost attached. he's at the very least undercosted, without the Evoke. Also seems to be too small for an Ogre, Way I see him, is being a 3/3 costing 5 or 6. Then Evoke 3 might be workable.

Well with the new Artifact that is basically a seal of fire costing 3 I'd say that yeah evoke for 3 is the right cost for this guy. As for his normal actual cost? Well, to do 3 damage with haste you need a red legendary barbarian. To do 1 damage with haste you need a red sorcerer

However, since Kamahl is legendary I think you, Doubting Dave, either need to lower the stats on the 5CC guy or make him a 6GG guy with double red in his cost.

Elementary Mathematics:

Vulshok Sorcerer= 1 damage + haste for 1RR. 1/1
Wielder of the Rod= 2 damage + haste for 2RR. 2/1
Kamahl= 3 damage + haste for 4RR. 6/1

Two things: my card gets 1 power and 1 extra ping damage for 1, plus evoke. So it's overpowered. (As a side note, the extra power is mainly tacked on. Otherwise you'd only want to ping with it.)

Kamahl cost 3 more than the Sorcerer, is legendary, and gets +5/+0 and 2 bonus ping damage. Roddy is mainly a pinger/colorless sorcery shock, so he doesn't need to be as good p/t-wise. Also, there's no reason for him to be legendary. If he now costs 5, he'll probably get +2/+1 (-1/-0 for Legendary, -1/+1 for Evoke, -1/-0 for 1 less mana.

Therefore:

Haste

It actually looks pretty well-costed to me, and its a cool idea to have a tap ability on an evoke creature.

I dunno. Instead of the -1, maybe, for -2, "Play target card in your graveyard, then remove it from the game", like so or so?

I'm sure people are getting tired of constantly being reminded of this, but Yawgmoth is not and has never been a Planeswalker.

Shade of Nivea. Well...first of all, there has never been a Shade in the game of Magic (except for Ihsan's Shade, but he doesn't really have the shade type anyway) that didn't have some variation of "B: ~ gets +1/+1 until end of turn," so I don't think its a good idea to slap on the whole shade creature type. Second of all, your creature's abilities are really out of the blue, and don't seem to have much in common. Besides that, the first ability seems a bit strong for a 2/1 for 1B, the tap ability really isn't black at all. I'm sure you've got a flavor reason behind all this, but until I hear it, this card just doesn't seem to have any sort of fluidity to its design, and just seems jammed together.

And what exactly is the "angry" part in its type supposed to mean?

Flavoursome reasonings:

Ixidor was married to Nivea. Nivea got killed in a cabal fight. Ixidor made an illusion in the image of Nivea, which he named Akroma. This card would thus be the ghost of Nivea, risen from the grave, decides Ixidor has shacked up with a new woman, and having the power to do something about it.

And when I was looking up Akroma to double check what kind of abilities she had, I saw a line in wikipedia saying that she had been nicknamed "The Angry Woman". Thus, Angry Shade.

It could also be "Creature - Zombie Spouse". Having had an hour or two to think it over, I would probably just make the ability something like "All creatures lose protection from all colours", or "White creatures lose all abilities", or "Legendary Angels become 0/2 blue illusion creatures".

you should add in a "target" "a" or "each" in place of missingword for clarity.
It seems like an interesting card, but it also seems like there are a lot of more attractive options than this card available to recur creatures. I'll leave that up to the jury.

Jane's little lame, as in rather boring. Though I think she's rather fine as a 3/3, because although then she'll be a 3/3 Akroma for 4, the triple W kinda hurts her playability a bit. If you think then it makes her too cheap, up her cost to 5. As a 2/2, she'd better be 3cc.

Death's Door seems okay, although I agree that the cost could be lower, seeing that it's a global effect, plus you don't get back your dead creatures for free.

Force Aside...

Wow. Do you know why Shahrazad was banned? It lengthened games waaaaaaaay too much. It annoyed people. Force Aside, like Shahrazad, would be fun in casual, but in tournaments it would instantly become the most hated card ever. Besides, if you ran it you would have to lug a chessboard around, and that's not fun either.

A no-prize for guessing the reference. I figured that black and green have the most insects, so the time-counter-getting ability made sense flavorfully and mechanically.

I get why Force Aside is black and white but I don't get why it's not blue at all.

the only qualm I have with Honey Elemental is that most of the insects you're tapping to give it a time counter ALSO have the lowest power hehe.

Otherwise I like it. I don't get the reference? But I like the image of an insect making honey to keep the honey elemental alive ^^.

Basically I wanted a way to gain control of enchantments and artifacts and ALSO get the comes into play ability Story Circle, Stuffy Doll, and so on.

Ah, interesting.... artifact/enchantment steal, eh? Because it's a steal, I think Instant would be too mean (even though it's only enchantment or artifact), so I suggest sorcery, in which case perhaps I can drop the cost a bit to 3W.

So, Extirpate hater, Flashback re-abuser, and can't play with Suspend at all. Heck, accidentally Nightmaring your creature may be a little hazardous. I'm not sure how much this should cost, 2-3 or other numbers, especially since the effect is relatively narrow.... Comments?

For a modal spell, the first ability is a bit too cheap. Of course, then if we raise the cost to 3cc, the second ability has to be upgraded to deal at least 3 damage. But good, one-sided LD spell, no matter how narrow it is (in this case nonbasic hater) needs to be expensive enough to be fair.

Well, Endless Wishing is a mad deckthinner, but you need skill and psychological advantage to make sure it isn't turned against you.

Destructive Curiosity... may be too good. I mean, it's a two-mana Reclaim that gives you more options and fills up your 'yard, plus can recur itself. I'd suggest a "Remove THIS from the game" clause like you mentioned.

As to Honey Elemental a page ago, blue, the reference was Drop of Honey and, unintentionally, Jhoira's Timebug.

Sealing Slab: Player A removes Player B's forest from the game. Player A then puts Player B's forest into his or her hand. The Comp Rules roll over. Later inspection reveals that they have died.
Why not make it "3, skip your next draw step: You may play a card imprinted on Sealing Slab as though it was in your hand?" Seems simpler and less prone to migranes.

Can't think of anything, so I'll retread an old card.

Well, a lot of the time, this is a sorcery Lightning Bolt that can't fire on turn one, or a Rift Bolt variant that can somehow distribute the damage. I think it's pretty comparable to Spark Elemental indeed, and while the elemental can't block, this can stop a big fattie coming your way. I think it's pretty decent.


Well, in line of tribal celebration with Lorwyn, I think I'll start digging my brain for tribal cards. Here's one for a relatively popular tribal first:

Medicine Professor - Back in Onslaught this would have been printed as a rare, but in Lorwyn it's possible to be an uncommon, with 'Other Clerics you control have +0/+1.' to boot. That having said, 2/2 for :3mana::symw: feels quite underwhelming, it could give Clerics that bonus, as well as being a 2/3 and giving other Clerics +0/+1.

Slingspittle -- Not certain of the flavor of this card. It's a little tough to balance, mana-wise: too cheap and you basically remove all of your opponent's creatures; too expensive, and it's never going to be used.

Might be better without the :symtap:, and removing all counters at the end of turn: it's most likely that an opponent is going to remove the beast in response to the ability being played, anyway.

This card is definitely a toughie in 1v1, though not so much in multiplayer. That said, I'm not that sure if the cost is right, maybe an extra 1cc wouldn't hurt, and make it more splashable too (as in 4W)

Then as for Forgotten, I originally wanted to make it a black card that kicks cards from graveyard, but after a while, I choose this one instead. Comments?
