Doesn't seem to be bleeding too much to me, since Avoid Fate exists (as old as it is), green already hates its things being targeted anyway, and eating spells is something green already has a hand in, at least in terms of flavor. I like it, either way.

More scornful egoist support? I suppose thats what happens when you run a CMC matters theme again. The fact you let it open to opponents library's is somewhat tricky, its rarer to see a search effect like this affect any players library. But this would really become a combo card to cheat out a permanent somehow. With the -1 CMC restriction its not likely to be broken, but it makes me wonder what the heck kind of niche the card fills. If it was instant speed so it could be a removal dodge it might be more interesting, but otherwise it seems like a one-off pod that goes backwards. I don't know where you'd fit that in.

fun with card names, for sure. Also too strong, for sure, whats a better way to nerf it?

Hmmm..... maybe need to come into play tapped unless you control two or more other forests, just to weaken it a bit more considering the versatility of this. Otherwise, spot on.

I'm not sure if the 2 mana is necessary, but since the Hexproof and spell protection lasts longer than my previous Devour (that one protects only once, then the next kill spell aimed at that creature will hit), I think probably justified. Not to mention the lack of possibility of redirected. Comments?

As it stands it's basically a two mana vindicate. Replace permanent with nonland permanent and add +1/+1 (so it has combo power with trample) and it looks good. Also, white and black focus on straight permanent removal while green and black do not (Vindicate, Angel of Despair, Ashen Rider.) Wizards probably doesn't want a potential 2 mana sinkhole as they steered away from land destruction. Games could be too reliant on who goes first with a card like this if they don't have a one mana removal/blocker, which makes games less fun.

It's hard to judge a card that does random things properly, especially one like this that can either kill your opponent in a spectacular fashion or blow up in your face.

I can just imagine him backfiring on you with every spell that's cast, and grinning maniacally the entire time...

But it seems *way* too powerful for all formats. The non-creature spells can't be cast clause says that aggro decks are utterly unstoppable once this hits the deck. Aggro vs control, it locks out all your opponents cards so he can't cast, makes your own beaters not just immortal but cheating bigger beaters into play. Its a nightmare of a card, at any mana cost. Maybe if it was podding down and not sealing out noncreature spells or letting them be replaced by creatures somehow. Something that would make the game more interactive instead of being a one-card lock.

So, if I understand this right:

- Spells or abilities can't target any permanents besides the Barrier. Or if they can, it won't matter since the target won't exist during resolution.
- Spells like Wrath of God or Edict effects simply won't do anything because the cards don't exist.
- probably other nuances that I'm forgetting

Seems like a brutal card for EDH, particularly if it gets set up alongside Sigarda, Host of Herons and other GW protective cards.

Also, it should probably say "all permanents not named Impassable Barrier". As it stands, controlling two of them is kinda dumb.

Man, this card is hard to critique. My not being a rules guru doesn't help.

There is exactly one card with the printed type Starfish.

Yeah thats more or less the idea behind the barrier. I was trying to think whether it should say "treat as if they don't exist" or use phase out / phase in when spells/abilities are on the stack or not, it was trickier to template that way. But like you say, it would stop all targeted and non-targeted 'effects'- targets would cast, then fizzle, non targets would whiff with no effect. I was thinking maybe it could be legendary to make it harder to stack two.

My only concern not being a guru either is that it would screw with combat, I'm not sure what happens if someone is attacking, and you activate an ability (their creatures stop existing), then it resolves, are they still attacking, does the game 'remember' the exact state of everything?


That starfish is a neat design. I think it forces people to understand the rather tricky regenerate mechanic, in that regeneration only actually occurs when its triggered, but the way the card is templated it makes that easy for people to grok, in the sense of "why else would it hurt itself?". As a comparison to Sprouting Phytohydra, it seems like it might be too cheap for the quadratic number of tokens you'd get for available mana. Especially if you had anything to convert tokens to more mana. Also, it goes pretty nutty with any haste enchantment like concordant crossroads, at which it becomes (G/U): Tapped 0/1 defender token. But honestly, thats not even a very useful combo on its own, meaning it would have to be 3-card to do anything

So overall the power level might be fine. And it would be hilarious for any deck that triggers on its own creatures dying, like grave pact, in that it releases a wave of them any time you want.


Now in terms of hosing aggro, whats a proper cost?

Can I really sneak that through for BB? Compared to Night of Souls' Betrayal, caltrops and circle of flame. This doesn't kill off mana dorks or stop chump blockers

Um..... Maybe 3cc is required, but I'm not sure. This stops token decks from even attacking, and that's going to hurt a lot. Still, it's symmetrical..... hmm, decisions, decisions..... I think 3cc should be good to go, when comparing that Night and the Curse (that one is one-sided 5cc -1/-1)

Modular on an indestructible permanent is certainly interesting, I'll give it that. Its overall usefulness increases the more shuffling effects you have, to the point where even if X = 1, it's still a very powerful piece of utility with enough shuffling. And an indestructible 1/1 for 2 is already a bit over the curve, using Darksteel Myr and possibly Predator Ooze for comparison.

Being an artifact creature with a CMC of 0 means it's also very easily tutored and recurred itself.

I don't really see when this would be very useful. Lands don't really do too much damage to things to begin with. It's the right rarity, though.

Whats a peorin? As a card its underpowered, its a functional reprint of cloud sprite/cloud pirates, but wizards has already shown Zephyr Sprite/Flying Men is not even constructed playable despite being strictly better, let alone suntail hawk. Maybe theres some flavor I'm missing out on?

I dunno about terrace acolyte. It seems too strong to me, if it was an opponent source it would be too weak, but seeing as it turns any painland into a source of free +1/+1 counters, its nutty as all hell. It comes down as a 1/1 for 2, the next turn its a 4/4, the turn after that its an 8/8, 13/13, 19/19, all without spending any extra mana, and all the while you've got a base of lands like shivan reef or city of brass or ancient tomb with no drawback. Lord knows it would singlehandedly enable tarnished citadel.


Here, just try to figure out what this card does:

Why do you have the second ability? It does nothing. The first ability counters any spell that doesn't have a legal target after becoming a copy. If you target a counterspell, it just chains down, and doesn't stop the counter spell. Bump it to four, and add a redirect ability, then it could counter everything without having to contemplate a permanent spell becoming a non-creature spell.

I ate a lot of magic cards in my day already, so thats one heck of a steal for a 6 power dork. I think you should rework the ability though to make it more potent. Tearing up the card before eating it takes some of the impact out of it- its better to tear a chunk out of a card with your teeth. And make it the top card of your library for good measure. THAT will make people think twice! Maybe force them to eat it face down so they can't just quit the game in response to that topdecked lotus

I really, really like this card. It has two white mana symbols to account for both attacking and blocking creatures, and has a tinge of green to make it care about flying creatures. The only thing I would probably change is to make this a rare rather than an uncommon, since this will probably end in a next-turn win if your opponent decides to be overzealous and attack with all their creatures.

It wouldn't even be all that great next to baubles/eggs/etc since second sunrise is only 1 more and far more powerful. And instant.

Ever since mana bursts shifted from black into reds color pie, this is a long time coming. By keeping it from being spent rather than activated with one land, it prevents having 3 mana on turn 2. Mind, it would still work if your other lands sacrificed themselves. Now, given the power of this card, should it have any of these tacked on?

T: Add 1 to your mana pool
T: Add 1 to your mana pool, ~ deals 1 damage to you
T, sacrifice ~: Search your library for a mountain and put it onto the battlefield tapped
T, sacrifice ~: Add R to your mana pool (lets you go RRR on T2, but you'll quickly be down 2 lands)

or keep it as is?

Lonely Moutain is powerful but I feel like it is not really broken since the types of decks that would use this card(Goblins) would only need this land so..... 3.7/5 and it could be a cycle of them.

Definitely not as a straight cycle at least. Its in reds color pie to get fast mana at the expense of long term plans, but other ones would be much less convincing cards. GG for controlling 3 or more creatures, maybe? I don't think they'd work so well.

I'm not much a fan of cards that essentially read "this resolves, I win the game". With your ability to sacrifice lands and keep your beaters/engines while your opponent is on a totally empty board, its nigh impossible to lose once you resolve a spell like that. And the sacrificing permanents, even if it was an additional cost instead of effect, wouldn't be a significant loss here since its almost always going to be lands lost anyway. So even at 4BBB, besides being a rather unfun uninteractive effects, its probably going to be way too strong too. I mean its ten times more crippling than plague wind and a lower cost

Nah I like him as is. Like Mageta the Lion, White guys shouldnt blow themselves up. Vigilance seems strange, I feel like he should have an ability to influence the top of your library.

That is too powerful an ability to get every single turn. D tutor is still pretty good so heck no but I like the theme but if I did a mono black PW it would be something like this.

Hmm, Im confused by your comment. It's Entomb not DT. Entomb is better than any card draw? It follows the form of most Planeswalkers of 1 mana spell, two mana spell and an ultimate. Anyways on to your walker.

Cassandra seems a little too good compared to Sorin Markov. I feel like the problem with it is it doesn't do anything to protect itself. The second ability could be, Until the end of your next turn whenever you or another player would gain life, your opponents lose that much life. Its not that much stronger.
