A mechanic that was exactly amass with a different creature type was made by somebody many years ago. Still looking for who though.
Amass in green for Oozes, Elementals and Saprolings among other creature types has been a very popüular custom card mechanic to be suggested and then mire in discussions about details. This also includes variants that e. g. give a player a choice to create a new token every time. What's it been called over the years? Spawn? Sprout?

Planar Chaos was not a mistake neither was it random. You might want to look at it again.

How about a mechanic that allows an alternate casting cost that places a card into play after x number of turns?
2W
Rift Warrior
2/1
First Strike
W,Future Cast 3
(Remove Rift Warrior from the game with 3 time counters on it. At the beginning of each players upkeep remove a time counter. When Rift Warrior has no time counters, put it into play.)

While future cast's a bit more straight-forward than suspend, it should be obvious why suspend's only your upkeep.
@Michealin
"It should be obvious why suspend's only your upkeep."
Obvious huh? You 'obviously' missed a subtle difference. Future Cast places the card into play (can happen during opponents turn) where as w/ Suspend the spell must be cast.
Morophon, the Boundless7
Legendary Creature - Shapeshifter (M)
Changeling (This card is every creature type.)
As Morophon, the Boundless enters the battlefield, choose a creature type.
Spells of the chosen type you cast cost WUBRG less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of colored mana you pay.
Other creatures you control of the chosen type get +1/+1
6/6
The Sixth SunWUBRG
Legendary Artifact (M)
Spells you cast cost WUBRG less to cast. This effect reduces only the amount of colored mana you pay. (For example, if you cast a spell with mana cost 1UB, it costs 1 to cast.)
Also, I have mixed feelings about the use of nearly every mechanic ever in Modern Horizons (some in colors never before seen in) because that is was the theme of my most recent custom set. Happy because I like it. Bummed because I literally started the set with the goal of doing “something WotC wouldn't do (again)”. *sigh*
Making treasure tokens with fixed rules. I had argued for it a lot in a old thread where someone posted a token that did exactly what treasures did but was flavored differently. With Food now in ELD, it's pretty clear artifact tokens will have fixed rules attached to then and thus no two artifact tokens will do the same thing.
More importantly 'Adamant' from ELD is virtually the 'Purity' mechanic that I posted a few months ago.
Example Card:
Angelic Arrow1W
Instant (C)
~~ deals 3 damage to target attacking or blocking creature.
Purity - You gain 3 life if only white was spent to cast ~~.
EDIT: It appears 'Adamant' is a "fixed" version of my mechanic. Too soon haha
Our playgroup created a Lovecraftian-themed set about 10 years ago. When Wizards made their own HPL-themed set (Eldritch Moon), they put this SAME GUY in there. That was pretty awesome.
I'm mostly proud of predicting impulse draw on red, but with Skullknocker Ogre, "discard at random, then draw a card" came into Red's color pie, like my reversioned Tybalt's +1.
Back in 2010 I was messing around designing cards based on video games, and I made a Simon Belmont card with Protection from Vampires and could block Vampires as if he had reach, 5 full years before Dragon Hunter came along and did the exact same thing for dragons.

Finally a good white villain quote: "So, do I ever re-evaluate my life choices? Never, because I know what I'm doing is a righteous cause."

Unfortunately, I hadn't pasted it up to the thread for Annutia, so I don't have online evidence, but it's there in my MSE.
I created:
Opportunity Strikes 2RU
Instant - (Uncommon)
Opportunity Strikes deals 3 damage to any target.
Draw a card.
And today,
Of course, it's not the biggest effect, and similar things have been made before. But it's still neat.

+1 makes 0/3 walls with defender.
Ult grants emblem which gives hexproof to you and all permanents you control.
Difference was the colors (mine was WU) and the middle ability was High Alert until the next round.

Prismatic Vista from modern horizons, exactly the same card, picture isn't there anymore but the first poster summed it up.

Sacrificial Decision
B
Sorcery
Target player sacrifices a creature or loses 5 life.
In M19 appeared Demanding Dragon which has the effect slapped on to a dragon.
EDIT: I realise it was unclear in my wording that the opponent gets the choice, but I revised it to this in another post:
Cruel Decision
B
Sorcery
Target player sacrifices a creature unless they pay 4 life.
Do as no one does.
Don't put down.
Push up.
I never posted them anywere, but I tinkered with cards able to be cast on either side of the card...
