Hey guys, I made a cycle of 8 mana sorceries with delve, one for each color. Four of these are based off iconic cards, two of which are part of the power 9. The final one is an original idea, one that I don't think has been printed on a card quite like this. Tell me what you think. Thank you!
Dystopic Judgment5WWW
Sorcery (R)
Delve
Destroy all creatures. They can't be regenerated.
Wormhole5UUU
Sorcery (R)
Delve
Target player takes an extra turn after this one.
Nature's Chaos5GGG
Sorcery (R)
Delve
Creatures you control get +3/+3 and trample until the end of the turn.
Careless Lobotomy5BBB
Sorcery (R)
Delve
Target player discards 3 cards.
Fateful Gamble5RRR
Sorcery (R)
Delve
Each player discards their hand, then draws 7 cards.
I made this cycle about a month ago. A few days ago, Temporal Trespass was spoiled. Wish it was less mana but it's cool that an effect like that was printed. I love extra turn effects. Wonder if any more delve cards will look like one of these.
Figurative, this is not where cards are posted for critique. It's to post custom cards that closely resemble cards later printed by WotC. Read the original post of this thread for details.
Rudyard, you are the man! (with a bubble on his tongue.)
Just gonna say, for almost every single card here, they did actually think of it first. Not only are cards designed more than a year before release, but they are constantly in flux, with good rejected ideas showing up much later sometimes, and therefore a lot of cards are thought of long before they are put into a set. Not that thinking of a similar card before you knew about it isn't worth noting, just that nobody here should assume any of the cards posted were thought of by the posters before R&D.
@DJK3654-
whether or not WotC actually "stole" any ideas from here isn't the point of this thread. and i doubt very many of us actually believe that anyway.
also, R&D is made up of regular people. it's odd to me when folks put that which is official up on a pedestal. it doesn't matter who comes up with an idea first, but i don't think it's unrealistic that i have in fact come up with a few designs before anyone else in my time as a prolific hobbyist
Propagate [COST] (If you paid the propagate cost, copy this spell for each possible target it could have besides the one it's targeting. Each copy targets another one of those possibilities.)
Ken Nagle's Overload is well developed. there's more consistency among overloaders than my propagators, and using a replacement of "each" for "target"s is easier to understand.
i will point out that a card that said "instant and sorcery spells you cast have overload [cost]" probably can't exist because there are most likely many cards that would make the rules hiccup interacting with that, or be just too confusing to suss out. which is too bad
A long, long time ago, I designed Slave of Bolas for UBR. I remember being annoyed when Alara Reborn came out that Wizards had "stolen" my card.
Recently, though, I have had a problem with my set ideas getting used. The past three sets I have worked on have been:
-An enchantment set built around gods and shrines.
-A medieval intrigue and political trickery set with a "card types matter" subtheme.
-A post-apocalyptic wedge set inspired by biblical mythology.
None of my ideas have been mirrored exactly, but every time Wizards releases a new set (Theros, Conspiracy, Khans) my idea becomes outdated and similar to something that has been done, and I have to give up on my concept. My current set is based on mezoamerican culture and using mechanics that evoke emotions in players - hope, fear, excitement, panic, curiosity. So now you know what to expect for the next block.
Sliver Hivelord.
I was into slivers nad created a 7/7 5 color legendary sliver that gave all slivers indestructible.
While mine had better power and toughness, its effect was a lesser ability (As it affected every sliver)
Name was the same however.
Even people at my LGS were like "Bryan, they stole your sliver idea"
I did Toxic Deluge about 2-3 years before it came out, though it was added to the custom set I was working on at BB instead of 2B. Other people working on that project thought up Disdainful Stroke and Song of the Dryads quite some time ago.

I was working on a custom set and I made a mechanic called insanity, which was basically dash except the creature was sacrificed eot instead of returned to hand. I now have to think of a new mechanic to define my insane cultists...
sacrificing instead of returning to hand is a better way to go, design space wise. etb and attack triggers pair better with the more evoke-like version of this mechanic. (Skizzik might be considered the first card with this ability, only reversed. or it could be said Sneak Attack gave all your creatures this ability...)
the idea tho seems to have been thought up by just about everyone at some point:
Berserk 2 - (B/R)(B/R)(B/R)(B/R)(You may cast this for its berserk cost. If you do, it enters the battlefield with two +1/+1 counters on it and gains haste and trample until end of turn. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
Berserk R (You may cast this for its berserk cost as though it had flash. If you do, it gains haste and trample until end of turn. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
Rave (You may cast this spell for its rave cost. If you do, it enters the battlefield with haste and "At the beginning of the end step, sacrifice this creature.")
Berserk (R/G)(You may cast this for its berserk cost as though it had flash. If you do, it gains haste and trample. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step.)
Accelerate RRR(You may cast this
card for RRR instead of its mana cost. If you do, it gains haste and “Sacrifice this permanent at the
beginning of the next end step.”)
Hellridden X (You may cast this spell for its hellridden cost. If you do, it gains haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the end step.)
This ability only goes on creatures, although I suppose I could probably put it in an artifact or enchantment.
Also I need a new name for Hellridden. Help suggest bros!
Inspire 1R (You may cast this card for it's Inspire cost. If you do, it gains Haste. Sacrifice it at the beginning of the next end step or if it would leave the battlefield).
You may pay R rather than ~'s mana cost. If you do, ~ enters the Battlefield with haste, trample and "At the beginning of your end step, sacrifice ~.".
Sarkhan of Tarkir4RR
Planeswalker - Sarkhan (M)
[] Sarkhan of Tarkir can't be attacked except by creatures with flying.
+2 Reveal the top card of your library. If it's a creature, Sarkhan of Tarkir deals damage equal to its power to target player.
-3 Put a 4/4 red Dragon creature token with flying onto the battlefield.
-9 Search your library for any number of Dragon creatures and put them onto the battlefield, then shuffle your library. They gain haste until end of turn.

Almost 2 outta three certainly ain't bad.

this idea is based on speculation over what the Magic Origins semi-core set might contain:
Liliana, Apprentice NecromancerBB
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard (M)
Whenever another creature dies, put a loyalty counter on Liliana. Then, if Liliana has six or more loyalty counters, transform Liliana.
Remove a loyalty counter from Liliana: Regenerate target creature.
2/2
//// Liliana, Planeswalker
Planeswalker - Liliana (M)
<+X>: As an additional cost to activate this ability, exile X creature cards from among graveyards.
<-X>: Return target creature card with converted mana cost X from a graveyard to the battlefield under your control.
like some others i guessed that Origins would have legends that transformed into planeswalkers. Liliana, Heretical Healer & Liliana, Defiant Necromancer just got revealed, and her -X ability is very close to what i imagined.
i also considered using the pronoun "her" on the legendary side of my version, but i ended up skirting that issue and used her name instead of the word "it." note that Liliana, Heretical Healer uses the feminine possessive pronoun in self reference.

As long as you have more cards in your hand than any opponent, the top card of your library has Morph x, where X is the number of cards in your hand.
Whenever the top card of your library is turned face up, if it is a creature, put it onto the battlefield; if it is a land, put it into your graveyard and you lose 2 life; otherwise, put it into your graveyard.

When CARDNAME enters the field, you may change one target of target spell to CARDNAME. (If it has no targets that can target this, it remains unchanged.)
1/1 Illus: A Goblin servant in a wizard’s laboratory is carrying a large spellbook. He is afflicted by blue static electricity that is arcing between him and the wizard’s fantastical machinery. He is visually uncomfortable, although not hurt: his hair is sticking out and pieces of used parchment paper are stuck to his clothes. A red fire spell has suddenly changed course towards him.
Mood: “Why me?”
After Spellskite, I changed my wording to match:
When CARDNAME enters the field, you may change a target of target spell or ability to CARDNAME.
Beastly Diversion1G Instant (U)
Choose target blue or black spell that targets a creature. Put a 3/3 green Beast creature token onto the field and change a target of that spell to that token.
