I claim the rules text for Near-Death Experience as well — I developed Razor's Edge in September 2008 for the We Make the Set thread, then recycled it for the FCC in November 2008.
The thing that comes to mind most easily is Prismatic Lens. This was some time in 2005 and I posted it as an uncommon on the old Wizard boards.
Oh, looking back I apparently also got Fleshbag Marauder but as a 4/3 for 2BB. I count it as half a win because both cards were based on Rothus, the Traveler.
Tainted Land1B
Enchantment -- Aura (U)
Enchant land
Enchanted land is a Swamp.
Whenever enchanted land is tapped for mana, Tainted Land deals 2 damage to that land’s controller.
And now it is apparently in RoE, except triggering when tapped for any reason and with an unpreventable 2 life loss.
It turns out I made Staggershock (as an uncommon) before we knew about Staggershock! At least, I'm pretty sure we didn't get the name until after I made this.
I'm taking a walk down memory lane with a few of my first cards, and realized that I came up with split mana costs...sorta. I did these back in '98:
Essence Splice BBB
Sorcery
You may pay 2BB or 4B rather than pay Essence Splice’s casting cost.
Essence Splice deals 3 damage to target creature or player. Gain 3 life.
Lava Splice RRR
Sorcery
You may pay 2RR or 4R instead of paying Lava Splice’s casting cost.
Lava Splice deals 4 damage to target creature or player.
Just didn't have the brass cojones to innovate an entirely new method of visually representing alternate mana costs.
I and probably a dozen other members have posted something like the M2011 skeleton. I think I was the first one to use the half-Haakon text, i.e. "You may cast Cardname from your graveyard" followed by period and end of sentence. I know I posted that on a 1B 1/1 skeleton I can't find now, and a 2B 2/2 zombie for that matter. WotC's version is better I suppose, uncancelable but who would bother anyway?
Anyway sorry for lack of proof in the form of a link, but I figure the bragging rites here is so insignificant there is no need. I just found it amusing to see something I posted and people argued with me about now in a spoiler.
While I only invented it a few weeks ago, given as how I had no knowledge of Archenemy rules prior, I did create the mechanics - though not flavor - of the
scheme card Feed the Machine.
Scheme When you set this scheme in motion, target opponent chooses self or others. If that player chooses self, that player sacrifices two creatures. If that player chooses others, each of your other opponents sacrifices a creature.
Seriously, I got the wording exactly. Though it's less a case of stealing and more me having foresight.
About any "subpar" mechanics or cards: Context is king.
If I make a templating or grammar error, let me know.
The franchise MtG most resembles is Battlestar Galactica. Why? Its players exist in, at most, a dozen different models at any given point in time, with perhaps up to 3% variation, 5% if you're lucky.
Had Captivating Vampire in another creature type, both in nontraditional colors of creature control:
Penrec, Head Prefect 4WW
Legendary Creature - Angel Soldier
Soldiers you control have flying and vigilance.
Tap five untapped Soldiers you control: Gain control of target creature. It becomes a Soldier in addition to its types. Play this ability only during your turn.
3/4
The 'play during your turn' was necessary because of the vigilance, to prevent EOT gain control.
Jetstream Reader 1U
Creature - Faerie Wizard
Flash
Flying
When Jetstream Reader comes into play, scry 2.
1/1
Differences highlighted in green. (Note that if you follow the link in my quote to the card, the card had scry 3 as well, though what you see here is what I currently have written in my file.
Soon-to-be-Defunct Creature2UUBB
Legendary Creature - Human Wizard (M)
At the beginning of your upkeep, you may put target permanent card from a graveyard onto the battlefield under your control.
5/5
Holder of Secrets 1UB
Creature - Merfolk Wizard [Uncommon]
When Holder of Secrets comes into play, search your library for a card and exile it face down.
When Holder of Secrets is put into a graveyard from play, put the exiled card into its owner’s hand.
She guards her secrets too closely—perhaps too closely.
2/2
I created "Combative Monk" which was a 2/1 for :1mana::symw: that destroyed an enchantment when it entered the battlefield. I was told it was too strong.
Now War Priest of Thune has been spoiled for M11. (It's a 2/2.) Of course, a new white 187 enchantment-killer was bound to happen, but the similarity is pretty interesting. Guess 2/1 would have been fine!
I have absolutely no proof of this, but I submitted to Wizards the card mechanic "Return target spell to it's owner's hand". This was before Remand was printed. Although my idea also introduced effectively countering things without using the counter mechanic by moving the card to a non-stack zone, Wizards printed Remand with the counter keyword.
Its not exactly stealing when you give it to them, but I still like to brag.
wow there is actually a thread for this? In that case perhaps I shouldn't feel so special for having Wotc steal from me the ideas for Zoetic Cavern and Nimbus Maze. What's freaky is that not only did both cards come in the same set, but they are both future shifted.
My Zoetic Cavern was called Manland, but was otherwise identical - same morph cost, and tapped for colorless.
although my Nimbus Maze had 3 abilities just like the real thing, I don't remember the exact wording on mine because I decided to update my card in ccgdeck's database once I saw the real Nimbus Maze. (My updated version is a Plains Island which is no longer a Plains if you control another Plains, and no longer an Island if you control another Island.) My Nimbus Maze was called Harbor Town.

End of Days - 7
Sorcery
Destroy all creatures. They can't be regenerated.
Granted, All Is Dust is far better than my version.
Near-Death Experience has (practically) the exact same mechanic that I posted earlier for You Make The Card 2: Salvation.
Ah yes I kept meaning to point this out. Your CMC works much better but White is probably the more correct color given Barren Glory.
Well done.
The "Level Up" mechanic is equivalent to a mechanic I created called "Construction"... Only construction worked for all permanents.
Look at the card "Zunak Worldmender". When it has 4 construction counters it gains an ability, then it gains another ability at 8 counters.
Oh, looking back I apparently also got Fleshbag Marauder but as a 4/3 for 2BB. I count it as half a win because both cards were based on Rothus, the Traveler.
Cleansing Beam as a sorcery for 3R.
Harm's Way, but only for 1.
Hindering Light for 1U.

Reality Inversion :xmana::symu:
Sorcery (U)
Tap or untap X target permanents.
it even has reality in the title ><. (In my set)
Referring to "Reality Spasm" which was just spoiled.

Same mana cost, creature types, power, toughness, rarity, but instead of Regeneration I had fear. Darn!
