It almost looks like wizards unintentionally printed extremely powerful two mana creatures, that all became houses in multiple formats.
In Ravnica, there was Dark Confidant, which might be the best creature ever printed due to the extreme card advantage it generates.
Then in Future Sight, Tarmogoyf was born, which dominates because of its raw power. (You might argue that Fauna Shaman fits better in this list, because goyf isn't a utility creature, but shaman has never been anything near the power level of goyf)
In Worldwake, their newest mistake, Stoneforge Mystic, somehow survived R&D, along with her friend Jace. This one is also a multiformat allstar, and even got banned (no need to explain, I think).
Then, in Innistrad, we got Snapcaster Mage.
So, we have extremely powerful 2-drops in every color. But, as you can see, red is missing. So, what should the card that finishes the cycle of awesome 2-drops look like? This is what we know:
Sphinx is really good. Control will play it and be able to protect him just fine, hes a much better finisher then Jwar Isle and thats saying a lot considering how good he alone is. Bazzar Trader.dec now has 16 threaten effects. Thats really, really, really, really good. Really good.
Here are some ideas I had for this missing Wizkid (I'm calling these 1C, splashable utility creatures "Wizkids" btw):
"Each spell you cast costs 1 less to cast for each other spell you've cast this turn."
"Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell with converted mana cost 1 or less, you may pay 1. If you do, copy that spell. "
In regards to body, they could be 2/1 or 1/1 with double strike (like Viashino Slaughtermaster), or maybe 1/2 with first strike? Also 1/3 with haste could be fun.
Of course, there could be another fun option - make a functional reprint of Imperial Recruiter but as a 2/1. That guy would be able to fetch ANY other of the Wizkids!
All the other ones (I don't count Tarmogyf) are 2/1, so I'd argue for 2/1.

These are some creatures I've made that fit that categorization:
Book Burner 1R Creature - Human Shaman
At the beginning of your draw step, draw an additional card, then discard a card.
2/1
Overexcited Shaman 1R Creature - Human Shaman
Whenever you cast an instant or sorcery spell, CARDNAME deals 1 damage to each creature and each player that spell targets.

Firedancer 1R Creature - Human Shaman
At the beginning of your upkeep, CARDNAME deals 1 damage to each player.
2/1
Dahammer4
Artifact - Equipment (R)
Choose one - Equipped creature gets +4/+0; or Double Strike; or "When this creature deals combat damage to a creature, exile that creature"; or t, unattach ~ from this creature: ~ deals 5 damage to target creature." t: Equipped creature gains flying until end of turn.

This guy seems great, although I don't know if it's really extremely, but also subtly, broken, like it should be. It seems really powerful, but looks awkward when, for example, you try to cast a Lightning Bolt on a creature that already has 3 toughness.

It turns Shock into Lightning Bolt and tacks on damage to Duress. The drawback is that it hurts your Giant Growth target, but the ability could be made optional if that proved to be too bad.

If you're playing this guy, you're not going to be casting Lightning Bolts on creatures, no matter their power or toughness.

The ability has to be more subtly broken, also the card should be only played in blue decks like the rest of the cards
So we have to either go for card advantage or sheer power (goyf), I doubt any ability that fits into red would subtle enough to be good CA, so lets go for power on goyf's level. Goyf is usually a 4/5 when it's time for it to attack and it doesn't take that much prep: so we can't rely on burn spells, since that would make the deck overall weak.
Fission Elemental :1mana::symr:

At the beginning of each players upkeep, that player reveals a card at random from his or her hand. Put x +1/+1 counters on Fission Elemental, where x is that cards converted mana cost.

2/1
Damage cannot be prevented
Whenever a player draws a card, Goblin Slagspinner deals 2 damage to that player.
It's powerful, red, and would be seen in every format. Brainstorm doesn't look so good when it cracks you for 6.
the Driver certainly is good however the red power drob has been banned in legacy... I am ofc talking about Goblin Recruiter. Also red recently got Goblin Guide which is scary to say the least. However I think we can do better at cmc 2... sooo let's see.
Raiding Plunderers1R
Creature - Human Warrior
When ~ enters the battlefield each player sacrifices a land.

First Strike
At the beginning of your upkeep,
you may search your library for a 1 mana red instant,
reveal it and set it aside, then shuffle your library and
put the revealed card on top.
Borrowing from that same idea for green (because tarmo isn't a human wizard):
De Rosa Mage 1G
Creature - Human Wizard
2/1
Hexproof
At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library,
if it's a land you may put it into the battlefield tapped; if it's a
creature you may search your library for a creature,
reveal it and set it aside, then shuffle your library and
put the revealed card on top.
I feel that because green is supposed to get the biggest creatures for the mana, a 2/1 for 2 needs to be beefed up with a slightly more powerful effect than the other wiz kids in order to compensate.
an alternate version of this guy could be:
Primeval Kibler 1G
Creature - Human Wizard
2/1
Hexproof
At the beginning of your upkeep, reveal the top card of your library,
if it's a creature you may gain life equal to it's converted mana cost;
if it's a land you may search your library for a land,
reveal it and set it aside, then shuffle your library and
put the revealed card on top.
This version lets you fix your mana and find utility lands, which is stronger (in the short term) than ramp, especially for older formats, and the life gain isn't all that great but the other ability is so strong that the creature-half of the ability needed to be less impacting.
Goblin Treasurer
1R
Creature - Goblin Artificer
2/1
When Goblin Treasurer enters the battlefield search your library for an artifact card and put it into your graveyard. You may cast that card from a graveyard this turn.
It would be very powerful - especially in vintage/legacy but it would give more of a reason to play red in a large number of potential decks. I doubt it would be broken as it wouldn't help you cheat on mana costs and doesn't provide card advantage. It also has synergy with goblin welder and would give more depth to the artifact theme in red.

Dumping an artifact would be enough to make this powerful, I think - because of the combo with Trash for Treasure and Welder. As it is, it is basically a way more powerful version of Trinket Mage.

I mean Flames of the Past is red, and all the stuff that grants flashback to a card is red, overall the card "screams" for red, but became blue (maybe because it simply felt way to similiar to all the red flashback cards).
Something like this would be really good vs Brainstorm and Jace. Maybe make it uncounterable instead? Damage prevention usually isn't that good.
While not an exact copy, it mimics sulferic vortex. Vortex nails everyone for 2 a turn, and so will this (off draw step). However, this will go over the top (as the thread says) because it really punishes control decks.
It would virtually autowin in legacy vs the bladedecks unless they had a way to kill/counter or had a mystic. If this hit the table, they would take 2 on their draw, then 2 from him on your turn. 20 life doesnt go far when your loseing 4 a turn and have issues finding awnsers without burning yourself out.
