In the spirit of Wild Evocation, I bring you another Janky Timmy card...
Wild Shot4RR
Enchantment
Whenever you are the target of a spell or ability an opponent controls, reveal a card at random from your hand. You may cast it without paying it's mana cost.
Essentially, obviously, it is a hasty counter attack if your opponent goes straight for you, from a flavor perspective. It retains red leanings because just *how* you retaliate is fairly random and chaotic. Just wondering if I should lower the mana cost, and limit it to Sorcery and Instant, or if I should make the casting mandatory...
Neat idea but I think it should cost less. At best, it's just going to dissuade your opponent from ever targeting you, something that some decks don't even do at all. It's a worse Leyline of Sanctity, barring some ridiculous mindslaver shenanigans or something. 2RR would be better, and/or maybe it could trigger on whenever you OR a permanent you control is targeted.
Okay, I was unsure as to how to balance a free spell. I'm not sure about permanents you control, as Red is a bit me first, and I'm leery about adding the protective aspect, but that said, if I did, it would make it a lot less narrow...
Well it already *is* a protective card, but in a distinctly red way.
I like scuirimancer's suggestion a lot too. Only thing is, red usually punishes opponents for not casting spells (Impatience, Pardic Dragon), not the other way around. But hey, if red can get a "red style" defensive card it can certainly get a card that punishes your opponent for casting spells by letting you get random free stuff of your own.

Regarding the not feeling totally red, per se...could it possibly be RU?
Regarding the not feeling totally red, per se...could it possibly be RU?
Why? What's blue about this card, besides nothing?
Opponent play spell. Red get mad. Red react without thinking.
Sounds red to me. Sounds like the very essence of red, in fact.

Colourless mana comes FIRST! Try actually looking at a Magic card some time. It is NOT UU3, it's 3UU. What game are you making cards for?
I can no longer tell people to check their card names, because I am made of suck and fail.
Fair enough. My thought was proactive/reactive. Red tends to be proactive, and reckless. Blue is reactive and there with a thoughtful riposte. This blends the reactiveness of blue and the recklessness of red. I dunno.
I definitely call "getting mad and throwing a spaz" red.

... red Hunting Grounds? mmmkay. At converted mana cost 6 it could maybe drop the random and just allow you to cast an instant or sorcery card for free. Although, that would be pretty scary when put into a UR counter-burn deck, so maybe not.

Whenever an opponent casts a spell, reveal the top card of your library. If it's a land, you may put it into play. Otherwise, you may cast it without paying its mana cost.
Why? What's blue about this card, besides nothing?
I don't think the card should be blue either, but I think he was reacting to my previous post. See, red usually gets angered by inaction, not action.* Think about Impatience, Pardic Dragon, Antagonism, or other enchantments that somehow punish players for not doing something on their turn. This card, which would punish your opponent for actually casting a spell, is not something red usually does (unless I'm missing some big examples).
Actually, a really good example of the point I'm trying to make is Pardic Dragon versus Deep-Sea Kraken. Red punishes inaction (the dragon gets un-suspended really quick if they don't cast spells), while blue punishes action (the kraken gets un-suspended really quick if they do cast spells). I still think Wild Shot could work fine in mono-red, because it is punishing action in a distinctly red manner, but that is what I was getting at.
*[there is a separate line of red cards that punish opponents (or any player) specifically for playing or using lands - most recently Tunnel Ignus, but also Zo-Zu the Punisher and Manabarbs. I consider these a separate aspect of red's character, not the "I hate inaction" flavor but rather the "I wreck the land" flavor. I don't consider them relevant to the discussion of Wild Shot, Impatience, etc.]

If you could cast any spell, then the card would feel blue. And would need to cost a lot. I'd rather it be cheaper but still random, maybe "Wild Shot 2.0" need only cost 2RR?

That is cool too. I'd suggest adding the "put the land into play" clause to either version of Wild Shot, although I guess it weakens the card's flavor.
No, from a flavor perspective, I don't like land being played with this. Though for rules sake, I should probably implicitly exclude them...

I'm kinda proud of this...this is the first card I've made that's garnered pretty positive reviews.
