A guy got hold of a couple Shadowmoor boxes and we are drafting them!
I participated in two of such drafts, finishing second in both. However, I attribute my results mostly to everyone being clueless around the format rather than to my skill.
That said, we are going to have a few more so what should I look for when drafting? How do the color pairs rank? What are the best/worst to go mono? Non-obvious things?
Also, it is possible he will get an Eventide box as well, in which case we will have SHM/EVE/EVE. He explained he will have to do it this way to avoid having the draft cost too much. What changes? I hear black gets vastly better but that is about it.
Incremental Blight is likely the best card, let alone the best uncommon. It might be around the same level as Oona, Queen of the Fae; that's how strong it is. The Cavaliers aren't even remotely close in power level. Hell, Wasp Lancer is much better, but mono blue and mono black aren't really that strong.
Signalling is like farting: it's a natural thing that helps people avoid being where you are, and if you try to do it deliberately, things turn to crap fast.

I hereby found the American Chapter of the Zealots of Semantics. All glory to The Curmudgeon.
This is Shadowmoor, you're either monocolored or close to it. No color pairs here. If you're splashing, try to splash an allied color or you probably can't cast any good spells. Generally I would only bother if I had one of the uncommon Witch cycle, which are mostly busted.
Color ranking best to worst: White Red Blue Green Black.
Never played SEE, but from playing SSE and EEE I would suggest being completely monocolored, no splash unless necessary, and pick up as many on color Mimics as you can. Then cast some spells and smash face.
Funny that you mention it, a friend managed to pull that off. It was a sight to behold.
Thanks for the input, everyone. I'll run a few drafts on cockatrice to pratice your suggestions. That is assuming people will play Shadowmoor instead of holiday cube, eh.

I know Incremental Blight and Wilt-Leaf Cavaliers are two of the best uncommons. What else is first-pick quality? How often Is first-picking Shield of the Oversoul/Steel of the Godhead correct?

tl;dr version: imma draft shm, halp.
As far as commons go, Silkbind Faerie is easily the best common, and cards like Power of Fire and Burn Trail are very strong as well. I remember mono red being very strong, with Intimidator Initiate and Giantbaiting doing good work. Also, there's something very satisfying about using Elsewhere Flask to cast a huge Jaws of Stone without playing red.

My Flawless Score MCC Card | My Other One | # Three!
This is a strategy I approve of. Puca's Mischief is one of my favorite cards ever.
Mono-white was probably the best deck. Most of the best commons were white (like Silkbind Faerie, Unmask, Ballynock Cohort), and Barrenton Medic was always very underrated. You could also go pretty deep with the Resplendent Mentor guy and Cenn's Enlistment. Ballynock Trapper was super good too.
My personal favorite archetype, though, was B/ Flourishing Defenses. Defenses along with wither, Hatchlings, persist, Cultbrand Cinder, Gnarled Effigy (one of my other favorite cards of all time), etc was almost unbeatable.
And yes, Scuttlemutt was very, very good. Snakeform is also a super strong common.
Mistmeadow Witch is actually unbeatable once you get enough mana up.
Pick Silkbind Faerie over almost anything.
