OOC: That made me look, and apparently there's no flinch chance with that attack, either >< d'oh )
Cheeri wasn't so cheery when she charged in with her next attack. Diglett was knocked around its hole again, and Beryl threw a pokeball. There was a flash of light as the pokeball trapped Diglett, but it fell into the hole that it had dug!!
There was the sound of silence . . .

Congrats! You caught a Diglett! Scout and Cheeri each gain +2 experience
The next morning, you set out to challenge the Gym Leader Ronin...
Walking into the Gym you see him training with a couple of his pokemon...
What do you do?
Beryl gulps a little. He looks really strong... "Excuse me, Master Ronin!" she says as she approaches. "I-I hate to interrupt your training, but I'd like to issue a Gym challenge!"
"Challenge accepted. Let us begin" Ronin led Beryl to the arena where they would play out their battle. He turned when he reached his position and released Sandshrew.
"Go, Scout!" shouted Beryl, sending out her own Sandshrew. "Use Defense Curl!"
Scout appeared in a flash of light, and took a few moments to take in the size and shape of the arena. Then he curled into an armored ball, ready to roll at any time.
OOC: lol, I had something like Raptor's image pictures. Don't forget natural terrain as well. It's a large gym area, with a couple small hills and a handful of boulders. Terrain tend to match the types in my mind.
"Rapid spin!" Ronin's Sandshrew ran in, and while Scout was still curled up in a ball, began to spin Scout rapidly like a marble spinning in place. the defensive curl onl yhelped to make the spinning easier.
"Don't let it shake you around! Use your own Rapid Spin attack!"
Using the built-up momentum, Scout started revolving even faster, then lurched forward and smacked into the other Sandshrew, not at all reminiscent of a Japanese children's cartoon about custom-built spinning tops. After the maneuver, he uncurled and landed in a crouching position, waiting to see what the opposing Sandshrew would do.
Scout ducked down and covered his head while the opposing Sandshrew lashed his back with a flurry of slashes. It's got size and strength...but we have a few tricks of our own, Beryl thought. Blinding attacks, along with the use of poison, may have been considered "dirty fighting," but to Beryl it was just something that the species did naturally. She suspected that Ronin wouldn't have taught his Pokemon how to use those moves. She wondered how well it was trained to deal with them.
"Scout, hit it with a Sand-Attack!" As the Sandshrew took a break from its clawing, Scout dug into the ground and flung a spray of sand into his foe's face. Taking advantage of the momentary distraction, he tucked in his arms and legs into a ball and rolled away, trying to get behind the opponent.
"Swift! Don't let it get away!" Sandshrew shook the dirt from its face, and tried to track Scouts movements with a mysterious pattern of stars that emerged from its hands.
(OOC: Swift seems like a really odd attack. Where do the stars come from? I mean really?)
OOC: No idea...I'm guessing they're just created of pure energy out of nowhere?
As the Swift attack flew toward Scout, the rolling Sandshrew dodged away. However, the stars seemed to have a mind of their own, and quickly altered course, flying back toward Scout and hitting him from all sides. If he was hurting, though, he refused to show it. After a single circuit of the Gym, Scout came barreling out behind a boulder directly toward Ronin's Sandshrew. (continuing Rollout)
"Copy its pattern!" Ronin's Sandshrew rolled up and started to wheel around the gym floor as well. It was like some kind of grudge match between yellow-ish, armor-plated marbles. (rollout, hp yellow)
Scout had a slight speed advantage due to his momentum, but Beryl knew the gap would be closing fast. "Keep at it, Scout!" she called as both Sandshrew wheeled around the room one more time. "Don't try to attack it head-on. Look for an opening when you can!" (hp orange-red)
As the Sandshrews approached the corner once again, Scout executed a hairpin U-turn right before the wall. He sideswiped Ronin's oncoming Sandshrew, trying to send it spinning off course. (still rolling, improvised Rapid Spin attack)
Sandshrew is knocked off course, and forced to abandon the Rollout attack. "Fury Swipes!" Ronin's Sandshrew began to chase Scout as it rolled along, trying to rake its claws across Scout whenever it passed. (hp red)
Scout can't take another hit like that, Beryl thought as the other Sandshrew extended its claws and resumed the chase. She saw that Ronin's Sandshrew was maneuvering Scout directly toward an area studded with hills and boulders. If he stopped rolling, Beryl knew the larger, heavier Pokemon would have the advantage. Think, Beryl, think. If he wasn't being forced to slow down by that constant turning... "This one's for all the marbles, Scout!" she said. "Roll directly toward that large boulder!"
With the other Sandshrew hot on his heels, Scout accelerated to maximum speed, then rolled toward the boulder - up the boulder - about a foot higher into the air - then as gravity took hold, he came crashing down directly over the spot where Ronin's Sandshrew was standing.
And landed directly on Sandshrew's head. Scout continued to roll as Sandshrew wobbled in place a bit before falling to the ground. Ronin silently recalled it, then paused for a second before releasing Machop. "Wait for your moment, it will come," said Ronin, and wait Machop did. It appeared to almost enter a zen-like state as it sensed the arena around it.
"Scout, you've done enough. Return!" Beryl gasped as the rolling Sandshrew jerked away from the beam of red light.
Scout's energy was flagging, but he still tried a last-ditch rolling attack at the Machop. I guess he wants to prove that he'll never give up, Beryl thought fondly. (hp red)
Scout's curled form came flying undone from the force of the throw, and he landed on the floor, bounced once, and was silent. Beryl ran over to see how her Pokemon was doing. Even as he lay unconscious, she thought she might have seen some of his fingers twitching. "You put up a good fight, Scout," she said. "A lot more fight than I expected from you. You deserve a good rest."
After she recalled Scout, Beryl decided on a Pokemon that couldn't be thrown (without the strength of an earthmover, anyway): "Hardy! I choose you!"
"Diglett dig! Diglett dig!" Hardy chanted in as gruff a voice as possible, trying to lower the Machop's willingness to fight. (Growl)
"Low kick!" Machop looked a little off-put by the growling, but on Ronin's command it ran it and slid toward Diglett, with its one leg stretched out to deliver the kick.
Hardy continued to Growl at the Machop...in fact he continued to Growl until the Machop's foot landed square in his jaw.
"Let's try a Sand-Attack next!" Beryl said. Like Scout before him, the Diglett began to gyrate his body, sending sprays of sand from the arena floor flying in the Machop's direction.
Beryl tells Cheeri to use Faint Attack on the Diglett again, then will throw a Poke Ball if the attack hits.

OCC: Sorry to interrupt but I imagined it something like this but with slightly more western architecture and a dirt floor.
