"Why sure, sounds like a good time. Let's go, Pidgeotto! We got ourselves a challenger." Roy released his bird pokemon, and Pidgeotto started hovering behind Roy as they waited for Ian to ready himself.
Ian grinned, and tossed out Houndour's Pokeball, releasing it out a short distance from himself. "Alright, then - Houndour, start with Howl! Show it what you're made of!"
Houndour planted its feet, a low growl rumbling in its throat until it threw its head up, howling at the sky.
The attack slammed into Houndour, forcing it backwards a few feet as it skidded on the grass with its paws. It growled in response, staring at Pidgeotto.
"Houndour! Bite! Slam it into the ground!"
Houndour leaped forward, its teeth snapping towards one of Pidgeotto's wings, which would give it the leverage to throw it down to the ground if he got a hold of the Flying-type.
Houndour succeeded in dragging Pidgeotto down to the ground, but it wasn't over yet. "Scour it with your sand attack!" Pidgeotto easily made a wicked storm of sand and dust, being so close to the ground, that it was concealed in a matter of seconds.
The attack slammed into Houndour again; this time, it wasn't able to brace itself, and it tumbled backwards.
Stumbling slightly, it stood back up, eyes flaming with determination. Ian saw it, and all thoughts of retreat were banished. "Let's do this, Houndour! Close in and give it your strongest Bite!"
The dog charged forwards, leaping at Pidgeotto with teeth bared.
Houndour was looking much the worse for wear; its body shook as it got up from the latest blow from the Flying-type. It barely looked as if it could run.
Ian had to end this quick. "Ember! Make it count!"
The Fire-type lingered for only a moment as he glared at Pidgeotto, fire flickering from its jaw before it shot jets of fire towards the bird.
The embers lit up around Pidgeotto, and Roy was forced to recall it before any more damage could happen. "Alright, let's go Swellow! Quick attack and take out that Houndour!" Swellow streaked in at the Houndour, a blur of blue and red as it lined up its attack.
Unable to move fast enough to dodge, Houndour was knocked backwards, rolling several feet. It whined, trying to get up, but could only struggle its first two paws. Ian frowned; he hadn't expected the other trainer to attack so soon. He had planned on recalling Houndour when the trainer switched, so they'd both start fresh.
"Houndour, return!" he called out, bringing the weakened dog back before any permanent damage was done. Pulling out Bagon's Pokeball, he pulled it up to his lips and whispered to it, barely loud enough for it to hear. "This trainer fights dirty, Bagon...take 'em down."
Throwing the Pokeball out, the Dragon-type emerged with a loud, angry roar. Ian pointed at Swellow, gritting his teeth. "Now, Bagon - Headbutt!"
Bagon lunged towards the Swellow full-speed as it lowered its head at the last second.
The headbutt connected squarely with Swellow's chest as the bord swooped past Bagon. "Get safe, and wing attack!" Swellow rose in the air, then took a spiraling dive at Bagon.
The Dragon-type growled, holding its ground until Swellow got within reach, and then leaped towards it with jaw wide open, ignoring the bird's wings when they slammed into its chest.
Bagon's jaws snapped around Swellow, but were shook off as it powered through a sharp turn. "Swellow! Quick attack again! Use your speed to your advantage!" Swellow folded its wings back, and dove at Bagon, wind whistling across its body as it dove. (hp green almost yellow)
"Meet it head-on with Headbutt, Bagon!" Ian knew from his training using the Pokedex that a Bagon's head was equivalent to solid steel; right now, it was their best defense.
Bagon's eyes glared at Swellow as it lowered its head and leapt straight at the Swellow.
As Bagon closed for the attack, Roy called out "Wing attack, again!" As Bagon's head smashed into Swellow, the bird brought its wings around to strike Bagon. (hp yellow)
"Catch its wings with Bite! Throw it into the ground!" Ian shouted. The Dragon-type turned its head towards the wings, fanged teeth bared as it tried to catch the bird's wings in its mouth.
Bagon threw Swellow to the ground, causing some serious damage to the larger bird pokemon. "Last chance, go for a quick attack as soon as it touches down again!" Swellow stood upright, and tensed waiting for the moment to strike as Bagon came back to the ground after its leap of faith.
The Dragon-type landed on its feet with its head lowered down towards the Flying-type, ready to not only intercept the bird's attack but charge forward with its own if it hesitated.
Both pokemon collided in a flurry of attacks. When the dust cleared, Swellow was unable to continue battling. "Well, that was a good fight, wasn't it?"
Congrats, you defeated Bird Keeper Roy! You receive 300p, Houndour gains +6, and Bagon +5 experience
He ran to catch up - which proved easier than he'd expected, given that the person was carrying a large backpack - and waved a friendly greeting. "Hey...I couldn't help but notice, is that a Pokeball at your belt? Would you like to have a quick sparring match with me?"
Ian knew he had to keep the training at a high level if he wanted to compete with the top trainers in the world - each battle pushed him farther past his limits as a trainer. He reached behind himself and grabbed Skorupi's Pokeball, releasing him out next to him to prepare for a potential battle.
"Alright, Espeon, start with your quick attack. Let's test its defenses." Wiht a flash, Espeon was off running towards its opponent. The Eeveeloution was incredibly swift, as it lined up its attack.
"Sko!" The Bug-type threw its claws up just as Espeon slammed into him, absorbing most of the blow. It lashed out, leaping forward as it retaliated with deadly fangs.
Houndour planted its feet, a low growl rumbling in its throat until it threw its head up, howling at the sky.

Ian called out to it from afar. "Houndour, shoot Ember into the dust cloud!"
With a low growl, flames grew in the back of its mouth before it opened, shooting small jets of flame towards the hidden Pidgeotto.
