Rai breathed much easier as Garchomp made the turn smoothly. He relaxed as he felt the wind rush past him.
As Garchomp came up to the dangerous spires Rai had him slow down heavily. "Take it nice and slow." Garchomp dug his claws in, glowing with deadly force.
Ryoma's command for Garchomp to ease up drastically seemed to be more to ease the rider's stress than conserving his mount's energy. All the same, it worked. They were past the worst of it now. Just a long, uphill run remained.

Obstacle 13: Riders can breathe easy, but Pokémon can't--the stress is probably starting to take a toll on them as they head into this 180-degree, uphill turn to the right.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.
The spectators roared, never having seen a Pokémon move up the steep hill that fast. This Garchomp was a monster! Even the officials looked like they were in disbelief. The current track record might not even hold up after this run!

Obstacle 14: A gentle uphill curve to the left followed by a straight shot to the finish line. Though riders are likely pushing the Pokémon to the brink in this last charge to the finish line, they still have to make sure they actually finish the uphill climb.

Rai smiled as Garchomp made the climb look effortless. He would give the spectators a show now.
"Let`s finish this right, Garchomp! Blast through that finish line!" Garchomp sped off like a rocket, gliding across the ground as if he were skating on it.
Garchomp's long, powerful tail flailed through the earth of the track, propelling the two forward in an unstable, but wildly fast, rush toward the finish. The dragon's frame rocked in random directions hard all the way. Cameras flashed as the Pokémon crossed the finish line in an amazing time that would almost surely land him the pole in next week's race.
