I will start this thread out by saying YAY! Thanks for doing this!
Second, I have a question about management. What exactly in the division of responsibility among Raptor and Deus (and Immersa?)? I ask so that 1) I know who to go to, 2) I know whether an update might be imminent when I see certain users are viewing the subforum, and 3) since I might want a co-WPL for Atruna soon.
I know Generation V still seems a bit much to add in, but how about a rule where you add in the next and any future generation a year after they finsihed that particular generation set of games. So right now Black and White 2 will becoming out but, next year you add in Generation V, but keep it so that gen's 1-4 are the only ones you can have starters of, until Generation VI shows up and so on. That way you have a a while to work out the kinks of future generations and players can be satisfied with having the latest pokemon.
This is probably ambitious but at least this way when future players can ask "why can't we have Generation _ as a starter?" you can give them this reason.
Currently, I am ONLY involved with helping Raptor with creative elements for the region, and assisting with framework and developing mechanics to try and have this RP run as smoothly as possible for all people involved.
There are (as far as I know) NO plans for me to become active in terms of managing this RP at this time.
Is there any thought of having quick battle-only updates for the players in battle since the battles could otherwise take a very very long time, and it seems like no images would be needed?

Once the game is up on its feet and all the kinks have been worked out, I don't see any problem with doing something like that. It'll be a while before we're to that point though...

That is a very good idea. I'll work on getting that set up.

Just had a thought... pokemon fainting in this, will it be like in the games that if you knock them out, you can't catch them, or will it be slightly more realistic and they would probably be easier to catch when they faint.
Not to my knowledge, which is super limited. ALSO:
In Character: Hey guys! I just caught this level 8 Ekans but I'm not really sure if I want an Ekans, at least right now. They're kind of scary! If anyone comes across a nice nonthreatening grass type, or has anything else they'd like to trade for an Ekans, send me a Pokemessage!
Um Raptor? Why is someone getting an Absol for a starter? Don't you think thats a little Overpowered for a starter?
Yeah I agree it's a bit much. We should definitely put a cap on starter Pokemon's BSTs. Alternatively, any starter Pokemon should be capable of evolution.

A mere ten days after the Mending, a young knight of Valeron and a young ranger of Eos made a discovery that would change Alara forever.

It might be a little strong but I've raised an Absol from an egg before and the early levels weren't too OP. I do agree that any future Starter should be able to evolve.

I also agree that for now on, any future starter should at least have the capacity to evolve.
And if you've got a reason for him to keep the Absol then I'm not going to push it further.
I think given that battles are totally numberless, there's no such thing as an overpowered starter. It can be made to be even with the others as long as raptor enforces it.
Considering that moves no longer have numbers attached to them (there's no quantifiable way to tell how much stronger a Hydro Pump 'should' be than a Water Gun, for example), there's no longer a logical progression of 'weak' moves being continually replaced with 'strong' ones (Pokemon learning weaker moves first being for the health of game balance). If we keep TMs and Move Tutors to a minimum, so a single Pokemon can't just go around learning every move under the sun, I don't see a problem with letting a Pokemon keep all the moves it's learned, like in the anime.
Especially in a freeform RP, Pokemon moves can have a wide variety of applications beyond their in-battle uses. For example, a Bulbasaur infiltrating a Rocket base could use Sleep Powder to get past a watchful guard, Razor Leaf to slice a trip wire, Vine Whip to pull itself to a high ledge, and Solar Beam to blast apart the Rockets' Pokemon-stealing machine. Said Bulbasaur would never be effective in the video games, due to being extremely weak against Grass-resistant Pokemon without the ability to resort to 'standard' attacks like Take Down. I'm not terribly keen on having to sacrifice utility for combat effectiveness, the opposite being far less likely since combat is the primary way of gaining Exp to learn new moves/evolve.

Even so, it doesn't 'feel' fair to let a player start with something like a Hitmonlee or Jolteon. You'd have a hard time convincing me that a level 5 Snorlax's Tackle attack only hits as hard as a Squirtle's.
For what it's worth, I wanted an Absol only for RPing purposes, as it's one of the few non-legendaries that I can remember having a negative stigma associated with it. I didn't figure that it would make a difference, as I followed all the guidelines for choosing a starter. Sorry if it caused an uproar...but I suppose that's what Absol's usually do, heh.
I can see the arguement for allowing more than four moves per Pokemon. I'm willing to remove the move limit if everyone agrees with jenesis.
@Ravnos I'm going to let you go on using absol for now. I'm going to change the rules in the future to put limit on what is available as a starter. You'll get grandfather'd in so you'll be fine.

I don't disagree with jenesis but I'm fine either way. There is, admittedly, very little flavor reason behind pokemon not having the brain capacity for five or more moves.
As for the 4 move limit, I agree that getting rid of it seems to be ideal. There's just too many things you can use moves for outside of combat that only choosing 4 seems like wasted opportunities.
