And is quite lucky--gauging the frequency of the Spectrometer's bolts, he slips by swiftly and keeps going. He enters the room with the coolant systems, destroyed. Large chunks of ceiling debris and pipes have fallen in this room. It's eerily very quiet in this room.
There's nothing small enough to carry as a weapon in this rubble, but amid the rocks, Gordon spots one of the small crablike beasts hiding in the wreckage. It seems unaware of Gordon.

The headcrab doesn't move much, as though it's lying in wait.
Gordon freezes at the sight of it, but just for a moment. Keeping his eyes open for some kind of weapon, even though he's sure none will become apparent, he starts to move quietly around towards the exit.
There is not much of an option when trying to move stealthy besides moving slowly. The suit detects the effort and silences Gordon's feet, but the headcrab seems to sense Gordon anyway, leaping at Gordon, trying to bite.

It doesn't hit, but it scares the crap out of Gordon.
The door is on the other side of the room--at least one half of the double-door looks operational. With no weapon, it might be hard to defeat this creature.
Gordon turns tail and exits out of the door. The headcrab crawls after him but it's not nearly as fast. Gordon turns and sees that the massive tubes on the wall marked DANGER ~ LASER on the side have indeed broken; and the laser is blasting out of an open dent. It goes up and around, beaming into the wall, cutting a server into two.
The laser juts out from the wall at an angle, slicing through the server, then up to nearly the ceiling, then back down further along the floor, then back up. Gordon could easily wait until the laser goes up to pass by the server, but would have to wait for it to go behind him again. It was like playing Red Light Green Light with a high-powered laser.
There was no way to lock the door--the other half of the door was crushed slightly, half-open and bent. Large enough for that crablike thing to crawl through, but there was no sign of it yet.
Gordon waits until the laser is down on the far end of its path, then heads into the center of the charred parabola in the wall, then waits for the laser to come down behind him before continuing on. All the while, expecting that little beast to leap on his back or something.
As Gordon steps forward between the arcing path of the laser, he sees it come down in front of him, slicing the body of a security guard in half. The laser goes around Gordon and continues its endless cycle, but Gordon continues onward, going to the generator. He's close to the elevator that'll take him back up to the main level. The door here is half-open, but Gordon sees on the floor in front of the door a small toolbox, spilled open. Among the many tools is the largest: A red Black Mesa crowbar--an early success story out of Black Mesa: The crowbar was damn near indestructible and wouldn't give up in a pinch.
Just beyond, the elevator was ahead. There was a large sign by the elevator Gordon hadn't noticed before: Do Not Use In Case of Fire
Gordon lets out a wince at the slicing of the guard, thankful that the man was dead before that.
He takes a look at the crowbar. Considering what he's had to deal with in the mean time, a weapon that can stand up to near anything sounds like a good option. He picks it up, holding it ready as he continues on to the elevator.
He notices the sign. He raises an eyebrow, looks around and sees if there's any fires immediately evident. Should he see any, he starts looking for any stairs.
(The Crowbar is a 2 lb. melee weapon that deals 1d6+StrMod bludgeoning damage, with a 19-20 crit chance for x2 damage.)
There's no sign of stairs. The elevator doors are closed, though he can see through the glass. A call button can try to call the elevator and open the doors.
The elevator suddenly rumbles and Gordon sees, flashing before his eyes, the elevator falls from the floor above and, the three scientists inside, scream and fall to their death at the bottom of the chamber. There is a loud crash below.
(Sorry for not posting, busy weekend) Gordon looks into the shaft; the elevator below has smashed into pieces. The cables had snapped. To his left, there was a red metal ladder going up to the next level.

Gordon climbs up the ladder slow and steady, emerging from the elevator doors. He hears the sound of gunshots down the rounded hallway. Peeking out, he sees a security guard firing at something, or someone. He finishes just as Gordon emerges.
The guard shouts. "Gordon! What the hell are these things?? And why are they dressed up in science uniforms??" He asks, as if Gordon knew. Gordon sees what he had killed.
It was a grotesque sight. A humanoid creature. Perhaps it was human once. But it had one of those crablike creatures latched onto its head. Its chest cavity had been burst open and the bones and bloodied insides looked like a deadly maw. The thing's hands had grown into long red claws. It was wearing a tattered science uniform on its shoulders and pants.
Gordon takes a look at the body of the deceased/diseased. He goes slightly pale, taking in the horrific details.
What the hell are these things? his mind echoes.
"I have no idea," he says aloud to the guard, "but those crab creatures can leap like you wouldn't believe. Best to shoot them down before they get anywhere near you. Oh yeah, and protect your face if they do leap.
"Do you have a spare gun I can use?" he asks. "I'm trying to get to the surface, and something tells me I'm going to have to go through these things... whatever they are."
The guard shook his head. "Sorry, I've only got just the one, and I've only got two clips of bullets left. Is there anyone else still down there?" The guard asks, looking to the elevator.
The guard nodded. "Well, I would go out with you Gordon, but you should go ahead. Maybe find others to get out with. If anyone else comes up, I'll go with them. You've at least got that Hazard Suit. Still, I wish I could give you a gun. Maybe you'll find one ahead."
Gordon goes down the hall to see that the double doors leading to the elevator that had required a security guard to let him in were open. The dead corpse of another security guard laying on the ground in a pool of blood, his body shredded with claw marks. A loud warbling alarm is going off in the distance. There is no other sound except for Gordon's feet and his heavy breathing in the suit. The facility seems to be going to hell.
A cursory glance shows that the guard was in fact armed. Checking him carefully, he has spent all of his ammunition. The way his body is positioned looks as if he was trying to crawl away before he gave up the ghost.

Okay, hell with this. It seems to be going for my head.
He waits for a moment, readying himself to try and catch the creature mid-leap.

He makes for the door, trying to open it (if, of course, it's not already open) to go through it. All the while keeping an eye out for that creature.

The other part of him thinks Improvised weapon.
Regardless, he looks to see if the door behind him can close, or if it's damaged beyond repair.
Then, he checks to see whether the laser would cross his path at any point.

It would have happened sooner or later, he says to himself. They were doomed the moment the cascade happened.
It doesn't make him feel much better.
He looks at the inside of the elevator shaft, looking for a ladder or something.
