Want the answer? I figure your characters would notice this anyway: There's another hallway. One hallway went to the left of the altar, one went right. You guys found Roland in the lefthand hallway. The right remains unexplored.
Everything scares me... kitties scare me... squirrels scare me... corpses....corpses bring forth a pletora of confusing feeling which i prefer not to dwell on...:p
Tiran suppresses a terse sigh, and slowly nods. "It looks like the immediate danger is over. Let's hurry up, though. I don't want to run into more rats."
Making their way down the second hallway, the group reaches a 90 degree turn in the corridor much the same as they saw in the hall opposite this one. Turning the corner, they arrive in exactly what Erik seems to have predicted: a storage room, perhaps fifteen feet square. Large containers sit at each corner of the room, with two torches on the left and right walls. All the containers seem to have been recently disturbed. Another closed door sits at the opposite end of the room.

The man begins working his way through the various storage containers, looking for his own equipment or anything that would prove capable of defending himself against the threats to come.
Shockingly the chests, room, and door aren't trapped at all.
Inside the first chest, Roland finds his gear. Apparently Vanessa and her minions stored all their excess items here, because in addition to his own equipment, Roland finds several goodies in the remaining chests:
In the second chest several bags of glittering gold sit waiting (OOC: There are 6,000 gold pieces in the chest).
In the third, something possibly even more useful than tons of gold waits to be discovered: Two items necessary for the scavenger hunt. Apparently Vanessa was well ahead of the curve in the contest. A wide-brimmed hat and a masterwork longbow she apparently didn't have time to turn in before she reached the Temple.
In the fourth chest, sadly, there is nothing. Perhaps Vanessa's group found something particularly useful in it and took it. Or perhaps it was empty from the start. It's impossible to tell.

Running is always an option in pretty much all my encounters. Just because you get into a fight doesn't mean you have to stay in that fight. If you're outmatched or hurt, retreating may save your lives until you can refresh yourselves.
That said, running will also mean you might miss out on any goodies or adventures you would have otherwise found.
It's up to you guys to decide which is the better option for any given situation.

I'd still like to retreat now. Last thing we need is somebody dropped because they rolled bad initiative or we get ambushed. All our objectives are done.
Why not bring it up and discuss it in-game? You all know how hurt you are and how dangerous the Temple can be. Might as well discuss it out in the open where the dracolich behind the door can hear you.

On the one hand, finally leaving this dungeon might rekindle my interest in this game. On the other hand, I'm a perfectionist and "WHAT LOOT IS IN THERE?! IS MY CHARACTER MISSING OUT ON EQUIPPABLES?!?!!"

The man begin to dress himself in the content of the first chest. He covered his chest with an undershirt and a fine silver doublet, and retrieved a set of jet black breeches. He produced a similarly black jerkin with silver stitching. Most notably, sewn into the jerkin was a symbol of a swooping, silver hawk.
When he properly dressed himself and secured his scimitar to his sword belt, he handed Erik's cloak back to him. The man looked to be several times his worth from when the group originally happened upon him.
"Right," he said aloud. "We have what we require. There may yet be materials in this," he made a sweeping gesture around the room, "blasted temple that would make the trip all the more worth the effort, but how much are we willing to risk?"

Erik looked doen the corridor. "Well...let's check the other hallways, see if maybe they have a storage room there."
