Right! So, I've decided to start running a drop-in campaign for D&D 3.5e. The rules are fairly simple. I'll have a character creation thread up soon, which will also serve as the de facto Out Of Character chat. Post a character in there if you want to play. If I approve it, I'll bring you into the game in a post and you can start playing! If you do not wish to continue playing, please mention that to me either in a post here or the character creation thread, or by PM.
Please Note: From time to time I will push your character along like an NPC if you aren't active, and after a while I will remove your character from the game. If you are removed and wish to play again, simply post again in the character creation thread.
The campaign will centre around a mercenary company, and parties of mercenaries put together to fulfill contracts. It will be roleplay and immersion light, to be friendly to the fact that people are dropping in and out.
This campaign is here to do some light playing if you're bored, or to try something out! Make sure you have fun!
Please make dice rolls in a spoiler, and keep out-of-character talk in spoilers.

tags are much appreciated.
Please forgive my lack of knowledge to the complexity of the Forgotten Realms. I've read the Icewind Dale trilogy, Elminster in Myth Drannor, the Cleric Quintet, and a few Harper novels, and I played Demon Stone. I'm using the setting for the sake of having an established map, I apologize if I depict places inaccurately.)
This takes place in the 3.5ed timeline, as the Spellplague is bull****.
Westgate, Adventurer's Guild, Red Banner Cornerclub, Midday
The din of the cornerclub dies down a little bit, as grim-faced Dagun One-Eye strode in, his heavy boots thumping on the floorboards out of rhythm on an account of his limp. He carries a scroll in one hand, with the other he grabbed a hammer from the Contract Wall, and nails the scroll to the Wall. Dagun is the headmaster of this particular branch, a particular sour individual whose days of adventuring have passed. They say he recieved the limp after he fought off six frost giants single-handed, and walked for days with a broken leg until he reached a village. He has never confirmed or denied those rumors, but they certainly seem to help keep an aura of control.
"Right, you lot!" He barks to nobody in particular. "some poor sop's farm is being picked clean by an ogre and I need a few whelps to deal with it."
Without checking to see if anyone paid attention, he limps away back into the Guild proper.
The Contract Wall is a mangled mess of nail holes and old wood. This particular branch of the guild started as many do from the tavern it is attached to. In that capacity, not much has changed; the cornerclub is where the Adventurer's Guild posts the jobs and contracts available, and those looking for work lurk in the cornerclub until a job comes up that they prefer, or they run out of money for ale.
Ki'ikidi gets up from the pint of bitter he's been nursing to investigate the contract. He hunches his shoulders a bit as he stands so his dark gray hood covers most of his features, leaving only the white on his mouth easily visible.
The sound of the Dagun's cacophonous voice interrupts Jonas's meditation in one of the "quieter" corners of the establishment.
"So it seems there are people that need assistance. As a student of the enlightened path, I should assist in this matter" He says to himself.
Jonas stands up from his meditation, which startle the people in that area a little, seeing as his presense went unnoticed for some time. Jonas walks over to the board, where he finds two other people looking at the paper as well.
"Greetings friends. You look like you share my aspirations to help these poor, poor farmers with their problems. Great! I'm Jonas." He says, extending his arm to shake their hands.

Take a mechanic from the pre-mirrodin era, and a mechanic after the mirrodin era, and create a card that flavorfully melds both mechanics.
I won't push social scenes along unless I have to. Active players should determine for themselves the course of action, rather than me deciding for the players that you set off on a contract.
Not to sound like a "hack & slash" artist here, but to save some time and effort... I actively try to convert everyone who will give me the time of day to Kord. So ya, call it what you will. He's just that way.
"Let's go give this ogre a lesson in strength! Brothers and sisters, who's with me?" Ripping the contract off the wall, Robute gathers his gear for battle. Shortly later, he returns. "Anyone know exactly where this farm is anyways? My map got tarnished by a tipped ale."

Jonas was taken slightly aback by Robute's upfront behavior, but was determined to help in anyway he could. However, before setting off, Jonas makes sure to get every detail about the contract, and discern what the course of action is.

The contract states that a Merthierry Kinswold, a halfling farmer, will pay the Adventurers Guild the sum of *withheld* once the ogre that has been spotted at Kinswold Farm has been slain and proof has been shown to Mr. Kinswold. You are to meet him so he can give you the fine details personally.
It is typical for the public contracts to have the payment censored; the guildmaster keeps all the originals with all the details, and writes public versions with certain details withheld. The chief reason for this is so that the guild's share is confidential, and payment can be deducted for misconduct by guildmembers.
Kinswold Farm is detailed to be a three day's walk from Westgate, via an old country road that circles around the Eel's Cleft.
Well, obviously Jonas cares little of the monetary rewards of this mission. However, now he knows where he needs to go. However, he is unaware of the landmarks that was given in the contract, specifically Eel's Cleft.

Anyone familiar with the area (like all of you unless you're popping in from another guild) know what Eel's Cleft is and how to get to the farm with a DC10 Knowledge Local or Geography check, as these locations are all quite close.
Ack! I glossed over this a few days ago when I was checking my subscriptions and I forgot about it when I dissappeared! Post incoming withing 24hrs after I get some sleep
EDIT: Gaaaah, I spent most of the day out and after watching anime I'm too tired. Tomorrow. Deepest apologies.
Well, I didn't expect **** to go south like it did. I' now back with enough concentration to be able to run d&d smoothly. I apologize for the delay
Two days pass as the gentle countryside fades into memory. The second day sees the road run around the Eel's Cleft, which is an impressive fjord-like formation south of the city.
On the third day, not an hour goes by on the road when a curious, child-sized fellow steps onto the road. He wears a deep cloak and robes and his face is hidden in the shadow of his hood. In one hand he holds a smart, plain quarterstaff; the other hand is raised, signalling the party to halt.
We stop around 40~ft. or so away. Then attempt to parlay.
"Hail, friend! How may we be of assistance?"
OOC:
I scan the surroundings, as getting stopped by what I'm assuming is going to be a halfling may or may not be a trap. As I despise such signs of weakness, I do my best to be aware of such situations.
