**A few of the buildings were still standing, in some fashion, though none were intact. Most had tumbled or rotted away roofs, with only a handful providing any real shelter. The village could have held forty or fifty at its height, perhaps more.
The sky started to lighten a bit over the trees, growing a sickly green color. Perhaps the sun was beginning to rise.**

Be aware of singing as if you were half dead,
or half asleep:

Be no more afraid of your voice now,
nor more ashamed of its being heard,
than when you sang the songs of Satan.
**The light revealed mostly what they already knew; the ruined village, the dense woods, the empty sky. There were a handful of breaks in the woods leading to more paths, all of them as overgrown and weathered as the one they had taken. Some of the stones seemed to have been recently scorched, and there were burned patches of grass, though it was unclear why someone would be burning ruins.
In the rubble, Sly found a few artifacts, caked with dirt and age. Fragments of pottery. A small bit of a marble statue (a finger). A golden locket, smashed beyond recognition.**

**Édouard took the lead, pistol cocked. As they progressed, they found bones scattered around, in various states of decay and charring. At length they emerged into a massive crater, all smoking rock and sulfur. In the center, apparently deep in slumber, was a coiled serpent, a hundred feet long and five feet thick. Beneath it, a glowing fiery-red portal.**

Morgan- I say we double back and only come here if we absolutely need to get through a red portal. That thing is giving off nothing but anger and hate and all sort of bad vibes... that's the technical term.
Not seeing any immediate signs of dissent, Morgan dismissed her browlers and summoned a new one linked to the serpent. She had the browler stay close to her heel, instructed to make a huge fuss if the snake got any closer to them. Then she doubled back.
Édouard - "I don't think there's much call for heroes in fluffy kitten dimension."

Édouard - "That's what the papers say. Some half-crazed lunatic with a sword fetish."
**When they returned to the clearing, the setting had changed completely. Now the ruins were gone, replaced by windswept hard packed dust.**

Sly - "I have never seen such wonderful stones. If we weren't in such an eerie place I'd try to take one."
He approached the first building and looked out to see the size of the village and if he could see any buildings left standing.

The nadrask began moving through the rubble in hopes of finding something of use. Or at the very least, something beyond the village.

Morgan- Something tells me the scorched path probably leads to answers...

Sly - "Like them or not, I'm getting out of this damn place."
He started towards the path, though if the others followed he fell in beside them... He wanted to get out of here but he wasn't suicidal.
