Some of the tension is gone from Emeryn's face as the party looks through the head priest's quarters, seemingly safe for the moment. As they step out into the corridor to the east, she hefts her sword up again, and walks along the northern wall to the bend in the corridor, looking around the corner.
(I assume Reed and Luan are working on a locked door to Room 4 in the blue area. Also I believe lockpicking falls under Sleight of Hand if you have that.)
Unfortunately not. It's an 'Other Dexterity' skill. I believe the Thief Archetype for Rogues gets an ability where they can use Sleight of Hand instead.
Flavor wise, I like it better this way. Reed talks his way past doors, he doesn't break them down or pick them usually.
Say I had two things that required a bonus action, like Spiritual Weapon and my Duplicate, can I use my regular action as a bonus action? So could I move my duplicate AND the weapon to make it appear that they move together (or at least a fascimile thereof?)
Also, before I start to use Spiritual Weapon, is there a 'Weapon of Choice' for Finian?
Looking back at my notes, I was wrong. There were five books--3 History, 1 Religion, 1 Arcana.
Mechanically, for every {number redacted} book of a subject area he has been in contact with, his bonus on the appropriate check goes up by +1. His INT score also goes up based on the total number of books he's been in contact with, which is why his speech has started getting more coherent.
Rapiers are Finian's weapon of choice.
I'm still looking into the bonus action question, but I think the answer is no. I don't have books and my computer is about to go to IT "for review" so I'll have to wait until I get home to verify for sure.
Emeryn peers around the corner, but sees nothing of note.
@Emeryn--is your passive perception greater than 17?

You don't have a thieves kit or anything? Sorry, I would have just tried it again myself. I didn't expect you to have sleight of hand thing, I know you're not a thief archetype, but I thought as a rogue you'd have a kit. My bad.
Secret Room 4 was the high priest's private library. The room is filled floor to ceiling with bookcases, each sagging with the weight of dozens of ancient tomes and forgotten scrolls. There are scholar-clerics in the Great Library in Silverwatch who would trade their firstborn for such a trove of lost knowledge, and probably a few professors at the Argent University who would kill the Librarians to seize them. The magic of this area seems to keep them remarkably well preserved. The room is well lit, though there doesn't seem to be an obvious light source anywhere.

So, according to the book, proficiency with Thieves Tools lets you add your proficiency bonus to your Dex when rolling to disarm traps or unlock things. Handy!
Reed steps inside and smiles widely.
"Dieknuh, Paravrax, you both may want to take a look around in here."
Reed casts Guidance on himself and follows Luan into the room, looking for anything useful.
With his usual knack for finding the most valuable items in a given room, Reed locates the choicest items from the library: a scroll of locate object, a scroll of lesser restoration, and a Tome of Understanding.
While the text of the book contains useful information about leadership and insight, it is also charged with magic. If you spend a total of 48 hours studying this book (all of which must occur within a period of six total days), your wisdom score will increase by 2. The book then loses its magic, but will recharge in 100 years.
While looking through the various tomes on the shelves, one in particular stands out. A massive book, several pages are marked with colored ribbons. As you lift the book from the shelf, a scrap of paper falls out. There are several notes jotted on the page:
Quote from scrap of paper »
ring
possibly ring of ma'araq?
too powerful for general reliquary need to keep in dark vault
A massive grin crosses over Reed's face. Finian provides... sometimes.
Reed slides the tome into his bag, then hands out the two other scrolls, and shows his friends the note.
"These seem to be of use, friends."
He hands Dieknuh the scroll of locate object, "I think in your particular circumstance, you'll find this useful." He pulls a dagger, one of his own, not one of the cultist's, and hands it to her as well, "But until you've recovered your weapons, this might help as well. My apologies for rushing off after your rescue, the thrill of secrets has always had a strong pull on me."
He hands Paravrax the scroll of lesser restoration, "In case Ger'Cath finds himself broken again. Ger'Cath, do you know what the ring of ma'araq might be? I think we've already found the reliquary..." He looks pointedly at the Korvat's new axe, and Dieknuh's new boots.
Politely shrugging off Strathalmere, Dieknuh strolls into the library with tempered awe lighting her face. She almost fails to notice Reed as he offers Dieknuh the scroll and the dagger. She thanks him, binding both to her belt, before returning to her observation. Softly, she says, "We ought to return for these, if we get the chance. Who knows what knowledge has been lost to time, saved only in these books?"
A long time ago, there was a wizard named Ma'araq. He was always scared people were trying to kill him, so he made a magic ring to protect himself. When he died, the ring was lost.
The note said the dark reliquary, which is somewhere only the high priest could find. It's where they keep all the really powerful stuff they don't want bad guys finding.
"I couldn't agree more, Dieknuh. This place is a trove."
Reed thinks back to the map (and borrows it back from Paravrax if necessary)...
"Hmm. There is still one marking on the map we've missed," Reed points to Room 23, "This could be the Dark Reliquary. The map only seemed to reveal things to Emeryn and myself, who are both charged with holy -" If mischievous "-power. If it's not there, I imagine we'll find another clue here -" Reed points to Room 25, "- where the High Clerics are buried."
Reed looks meaningfully at Dieknuh.
"But I think we could use a fully equipped Wizard at our side before we venture any further." Reed points to Room 16. "Since her equipment was not in the inquisitorium, these rooms nearby are the likeliest candidate - as I highly doubt they're being kept in the Nave or Sanctuary."
Reed hands the map back to Paravrax and address the group.
"Let's head to Storage before returning through here to explore more of the crypts. Any objections?"
[Barring no objections, Reed heads back to the entrance to room 16]
Room 16: There's no door to this room, merely a short entryway opening into a storage room. Two large armoires stand on the western wall. The doors hang open, and it's clear they are empty. There is a table with three chairs in the center of the room. The table lies on its side, and the chairs are scattered about it. One of the chairs is missing a leg. In the far corner of the room, there are several shards of wood, the remnants of a fourth chair.
There are two doors along the south wall. On the left, there is an iron door. It is barred from this side. On the right, there is a portcullis. A lever to the left operates the gate. Through the gaps in the steel, you can see into room 18--a library. There are several tomes and scrolls in the library, but most of them are in poor condition. There is another table in that room with four stools; the furniture in this room, while covered in dust, is at least intact.
You can hear a loud scratching and clicking from beyond the iron door.
There's a hastily constructed baracade of crates and sacks of what appears to be flour piled in front of the barred door.
[This only happens once the party goes to Room 16] "So... who wants to try opening that door?"
Paravrax thanks Reed for the scroll, and does a quick look around just in case to see if there's anything specific that Ger'Cath might want to know or that might be useful for a sorcerer like himself.
@Paravrax--You see a tome that might be of interest concerning the nature of natural magic fonts on the bottom shelf near the door. However, the book appears to be a fake--it weighs significantly less than it appears. As you move it, you see it's concealing a small depression cut into the bookcase.
Paravrax scratches Ger'Cath's back.
He then catches up with the rest of the group in Room 3.

Edit [I'm assuming that's a fail, if not I just enter and I'll retcon this]: Reed goes to find Luan.
"Luan, friend! I have just the challenge for your superior motor skills. Would you come try this lock?"
He also puts his hand on Luan's shoulder and casts Guidance on Luan.

Emeryn moves to the end of the corridor and takes a look around.
"Very well. Stand aside."
Lucial eyed the door, taking in the type of lock, in an attempt to remember if he recalled how to pick this type of lock.
Lucial took his index finger and jabbed one specific spot on the door handle, causing the lock to disengage and the door to swing open.
