I kinda wish there was a way that we could all agree to a "default action" so that if a player is absent for an extended period of time during combat, we could continue. I feel like if it's not a combat situation, we can just keep going and presume that character just didn't have an opinion on the issue at hand, but we can't do that with combat.
I thought we HAD agreed to this a while back, that if someone is absent Kaburi gets to make they're action.
Ok, I wasn't sure. It's been more than 2 days, is all.

Off-topic, I am starting a 5th edition campaign of my own soon. It revolves around a quest to travel the Outer Planes to recover 7 lost/trapped souls (starting at lvl 12). Anybody have any cool ideas for why someone would hire adventurers for this quest? Sub-questions are who is/are the questgiver/s and/or how are they related to the lost souls?

Option 1: The benefactor is evil, and the lost souls are pieces of himself he needs to reassemble (Voldemortish) or his minions trapped by the forces of good(Sauron). They're sending the adventures because some barrier would prevent him from doing it himself. Of course, he's pretending to be one of the others here.
Option 2: The benefactor is good, but they are blocked by barriers designed by the villain, things that only the heroes (normal people) could slip past.
Option 3: The benefactor is a king or rich man whose children\siblings\best friends have all died before him. He regrets not saving their souls when he was young and vibrant, and is hiring the adventurers to do it before her dies.
Cool cool, good ideas. For some more background, here are the main ideas for the lost/trapped souls. All things that struck me as cool based on the fluff around the planes, monsters, and spells.
Druid stuck in a wildform of an insect swarm on Carceri
Ranger who killed a unicorn in the Beastlands and was transformed into a unicorn, then captured and petrified
Rogue transferred her consciousness to a sentient weapon to infiltrate somewhere, trapped in an antimagic field
Cleric who created a homunculus and was killed but the homunculus lived on with her soul
Wizard who became a lich but degraded to a crazy demilich because he was prevented from feeding souls to his phylactery
Barbarian trapped in an archmage's personal demiplane beyond time
Monk who retreated into a sanctuary on Mechanus and vowed never to return due to a personal failure
So variations on the souls being free and willing as specified by True Resurrection, although they're not all technically dead. I definitely think it will be fun to set it up so that the players suspect an ulterior motive of the benefactor, whether I decide to use that or not. I also think it's interesting if the souls they are gathering are like the main heroes needed to stop a threat (or intended as sacrifices) and the player group is just tangential to that story, but I'll see if I can figure out how my players think about that.
Apologies everyone, real life has once again gotten in the way. Expect an update before the end of the business day today, since I'm in crisis mode at work and will need distracting over lunch.

Sorry everyone, life's been a tad crazy lately. I promise I'll have an update tomorrow. (I even took my books with me to Memphis and still failed you.)
Here's what I've realized: this combat is giving me a serious case of DM-block. Like, it's not a fun fight for you all, it's not a fun fight for me to run, and it's not actually advancing the plot. So I'm pulling a one-sided Rocks Fall, Everyone Dies so that we can all move on.
To be clear, "everyone" in this case is going to mean "cultist mooks in the room with you". I'm not killing you all. (I hope.)
Unknown, whilst we have made the save rolls we are still waiting on the results of that angelic death scream.
For ease of restarting it would probably be best if we all just started at our maximum hit point totals rather than getting bogged down in working out just how close to death each one of us was before and after the scream and subsquent rest.

Fails on the death scream take 8 damage, saves take half.
