Hello all:
I'm trying to gauge the interest of a WP or something similar that is based in Space. Specifically, a futuristic world akin to Star Wars, Mass Effect, Ender's Game and/or The Foundation series. At first it would start on a small space station but eventually branch off into other planets and/or galaxies. I have a n outline for character creation like but for starters here's what I have thus far:
Space Opera
Races:
Human- The human species has mastered interstellar travel and thrived in other parts of the galaxy not named Earth. Humanity continues to impress others, as many thought they would no longer exist by now. Always overcoming the odds man-kind has ventured into parts unknown and must deal with the new reality. They are no longer alone.
Anthropomorphic- Walking upright and communication are they many similarities they share with humans not counting appearances. Many evolved Mammalia have followed in man's footsteps, literally. Evolution has pushed these species to new heights, and now they are on par with Man.
Genhancer- Genetically enhanced. Part or all of their bodies' has been changed. It could be internal, external or both. Genhancers enjoy the liberties of playing 'God' and picking their own traits. However, the horror stories of both genhancements is a cautionary tale of perils of pushing science to its' limits.
Cyborg- Part real life, part machine. Cyborgs are like Genhancer wherein they have modifications to themself. Whether done electively or out of self preservation they have turned to machines instead of genetics. Many regard them as non-human because parts of their bodies are unnatural and machine made. Many cyborgs try to hide their true elves by disguising their mechanical parts.
Professions: All professions require a one time fee of 75 credits to join. You may renounce your profession with a severance fee of 25 creds. A character can only be a member of one profession at a time.)
Runner- They go by many names; Smuggler, Thief, Tansporters etc. They're truly only loyal to themselves. Runners will take on any job, the riskier the better. They are masters of deception, the con and you'd swear they were all silver tongued.
Tracker- Opposite the Runners are Trackers. The jobs they take are just and decent. They don't read between the lines, only what is plainly stated. Honing of their skills makes them adept at finding anything; or anyone. Their fees can be steep but they come through- more often than naught.
Mages- Relics of times of yore the Mages have secured their niche in a futuristic world. They are the historians and keepers of the past. They're Old World mentality separates them from most of the New World. They shy from cutting edge technlogy, preferring older, simpler ways. Their gift of course is their ability to conjure spells from days ago, and yet they can be as powerful as any machine built now.
Hacker- The techies of the future have gathered together to make drastic improvements to the galaxies. An intense training, apprenticeship and mastery is the path in the guild. Even the brightest must go through the channels that the Old Masters went through. There exists a rite of passage and not an entitlement. Beware the Master Techie, he will outsmart, out-think and out craft you.
Separatist- Amidst the foreground of intellectual achievement and technological advancements there is a rift. On one side are the Separatists, a small band of like-minded souls being sought out for their like-mindedness. The Separatists are small in number, but their determination and resolve are unmatched.
Informant- The galaxy permeates with Informants. The ruling body of the New World the Informants agree that there is one way, their way. Rules they have set up are for the good of the galaxy, and they enforce them strictly and overtly. Entire nations pledge their allegiances to the Informancy.
Cities:
The Hub- It is a giant space station for all space travellers and their vehicles. The Hub allows all species to enter and pass while utilising its services. There are separate Terminals for all professions. Identification is required to enter into a Professional Terminal. Opposing professions are not allowed to enter each others terminal. The Hub is an Independent station with ties to none of the major governments or professions. It conducts business with all.
Spell Types
Fire
Water
Earth
Sky
Energy
Will
Hope
Darkness
Each spell has an enemy pairing, Fire/Water, Earth/Sky, Energy/Will and Hope/Darkness
Genhancements: (Genetically enhanced players can choose to start with up to two genhancements from one of the groups below.)
Sensory
-The Touch (Lv1): The synapses receiving sensations from your hands and feet have been ultra charged. Characters can detect geographical anomalies, patterns and composition while walking or placing a hand on the ground.
-The View (Lv1): The pupils are dilated a little more than usual. A character picks up body language cues much easier with this ability.
-The Look (Lv1): An undetectable positive field surrounds the character, making members of the same race more likely to grant them favours or go easier on them.
-The Aroma (Lv1): Characters with this perk are less likely to become malnourished or fatigued from long droughts.
-The Pitch (Lv1): This character, when concentrating can pinpoint the direction of even the faintest of sounds.
Physical
-Speed (Lv1): Characters with Speed have a greater first burst when they start to run.
-Power (Lv1): Powerful characters can carrier heavier items and their attacks more forceful.
-Dexterity (Lv1): Dexterous characters have excellent lateral movement.
-Jump (Lv1): Increased leaping ability allows characters to reach places normally out of there range.
-Endurance (Lv1): Characters can take a greater physical toll on themselves.
If I get enough participants I'll start a main thread. Keep checking this post for updates to come, including spells and genhancements.
Cybernetics: (Cybernetics are artificial parts created for living characters. A starting Cyborg may have any two.)
Chips (Chips are inserted into the brain giving the user an ability they wouldn't normally have)
Heat Map (Lv1)- This chip was intended to see life, when none is present. Perform a scan to find any life within a small radius.
Profile (Lv1)- Allows the users to discern a fact about another individual by studying them.
Status (Lv1)- Learn the condition of anyone including yourself (Mood, ailments, potential weak spots etc.)
Alert (Lv1)- When still can detect an intrusion of your 10 foot radius by an unknown source.
Clips (Clips are modifications or additions to existing cybernetics)
The Whip (Lv1)- A small cable shoots from the palm to latch onto a nearby object. (Can have up to two, one per palm)
Exoskeleton (Lv1)- An invisible extra layer of skin. Keeps the body at reasonable temperatures in otherwise unreasonable climates.
Capture (Lv1)- Record a quick, 10 second clip. Can be projected for later use.
Burn (Lv1)- A specially engineered layer is applied to a hand. The longer an item is held the hotter it gets.
Grips (Grips are larger, more noticebal additions for users)
Replacement (Lv1)- Lost a hand, foot, arm or leg in a battle or adventure? Fear not, replacements are lightweight, even stronger than your old apendage.
Shield (Lv1)- An unbreakable visor an quickly cover your head suplying you with oxygen for up to an hour.
All characters in the Space Opera must first be posted in this thread. Once you are approved, you may start. You must keep this profile updated at all times so that other players may reference it. To this end, keep a link to your profile in your signature, clearly marked if possible.
Note that all characters must start off fairly weak, as the point of the Space Opera is to build up said character. Characters who start with both huge abilities balanced by huge drawbacks tend not to last long as their limits often bore the users, same for bizarre gimmick characters. These are not rules, but just my experience and advice.

Character Template:
Name- Draknyva Darkens
Race- Anthropormorphic Black Wolf Cyborg
Age- 4(28)
Height- 4' 8" Hunched, 6' 0" Full standing height
Weight- 135 lbs.
Growing up on Sirius 7, Draknyva was always obsessed with technology. Always taking things apart, putting them together in ways they weren't normally supposed to be in, and getting them to do things they weren't supposed to do. While out and about when he was two and a half(18), Draknyva was struck and disabled by a vehicle, driven by an intoxicated offworlder. This offworlder, who apparently was very rich, made ammends by taking Draknyva to the finest Cybernetics Lab in the sector, fitting him with cybernetic legs and arms. After a long discussion with him, the offworlder asked Draknyva if he wanted anything else replaced. Knowing what he did about technology at the time, he asked for a positronic brain, and the ability to wirelessly connect with any systems he was near. After that was done, the offworlder, decided to take him under his wing as his assistant in his business. He was a Sneaker, someone who was paid to break into businesses and strongholds, and tell them how he did it, and what to fix. Unbeknownst to the companies which hired him, he was also a rather infamous hacker, leaving backdoors into their systems that they could never find. With his new brain, connection ability, and his natural affinity for tech, Draknyva was a natural. He never got to keep the Creds that were due to him, so one day, after he had learned all he could from the Offworlder, and surpassing him, he hacked his bosses accounts, every last one of them, and donated all of his Creds to the various Relief funds, orphaneges, and youth hostels he could find. And being connected to his now exbosses system, that was all of them in every sector surrounding them, out 100 secters in every direction. This effectivly bankrupted him, and, since it was an 'annonomys' donation, he recieved no credit for this deed, and did not know what had happened. He was found a week later, drowned in his bathtub. Now, Draknyva had taken enough Creds to get him to the Hub, and 500 extra, staring out a new life for himself.
Draknyva wears simple clothing, enough to cover his extremities, his cybernetic arms and legs. Even though they were covered with replicated fur, from his own DNA, they were still a little too lean, a little too long, and iff you looked closely enough, you could see little breaks at his hands, where he had 25 LittleFingers(TM) on each hand. Each finger he had split into five little ones, so that he could type up to 5000 words per minute. His clothing was a simple Gi, one that his family would wear formally, he wore casually. All black, with silver connectors, you couldn't tell where the seams were even with a hydrospanner. Having more lupine than sapien feet, Draknyva doesn't wear shoes.
Standing at a hunched 4' 8", this is the stance Draknyva usually has while walking around, giving him a more Lupine appearence than normal. He has his fur neatly trimmed, except along his back starting at the top of his brow, where he grows it out all the way to his tail. He always has clean teeth, and his eyes are a eerie green color, the kind found on a computer screen used by those of his profession.
Not sure what to put here but:
Positronic Brain: Gives many skills, like that of a supercomputer, rivaling that of the current military and government instalations.
LittleFingers(TM): Types at 5000 wpm, can manipulate very small objects with ease.
Cybernetic Arms and Legs: Increased strength and speed, small appendages in the palms of all four allow vertical and upside down movement.
Left Arm & Right Arm: Has integrated keyboards for systems that require them, Right Arm has Cred chip integrated into palm.
Left Leg & Right Leg: Storage areas large enough for a weapon in each w/ammo.
Tends to overthink things most of the time
Always wants to Hack the newest system/piece of tech out there
Always seeking new upgrades for himself
Lone Wolf (Pun intended), doesn't like to be around people that much
Antisocial, would rather be around computers all the time
Needs to to minor repairs and maintenance to his arms and legs from time to time
Constantly digging bit of dust and oter small things out of his LittleFingers(TM)
Nothing but the clothes on his back, and those described above.
First you must chose either Cybernetics or an Anthropomorphic creature.
Ok, I'll be creating some specific Cyborg related abilities you can start with, so for now I would say Little Fingers is a good one to start with. You don't necessarily need drawbacks, and a lot of what you named is more character traits than flaws. A drawback would be akin to punishing your character so you can have more advantages/skills. Generally speaking, those sorts of characters aren't as fun or long lasting as a well designed character.
So i cant be a cybernetic Anthropormorph? that seems a little unfair, considering that any living thing can be a cyborg. And what about the positronic brain? Or anything else i mentioned in the backstory?
@Jenesis- It's an actual game system. I am vigilantly trying to add everything I have prepared. There will be clear advantages for being any race.
@silverthorn2009- I did say your Living Fingers skill was acceptable. I'm weary for characters to create home planets. Simply name a Galaxy of origin. The interplanetary structure has not been decided. While a living thing can have cybernetic parts, a Cyborg is distinctively different. A Cyborg is less human than Anthros or humans. They are even shunned in some societies. You may start as a Anthro that wants cybernetic upgrades but no that is a decision that affects your peers but others that you interact with on a daily basis.
Seems like you have a pretty cool idea here. I may be interested in rolling up a genhanced/human runner. Let me know how work is progressing on this if you are still working on it.
