"As a rule of thumb, the more complex an object is, the harder it is to create. You could create anything, from a piece of paper to a large hardon collider; but obviously creating a sheet of paper will use a lot less magic will use less magic than the LHC. " It seems obvious but it's good to know. And Shirin can't fathom what use she would have for a large hadron collider in her room. She doesn't even know if she could use a small hadron collider.
"For this, you should probably try something smaller than a fish tank and very few moving parts."

"More or less. If you don't need it around, you can will it to stop existing. The only problem is that you can't turn one conjured item into a different thing. It's a bit of a hassle but it's just how magic works. You gonna try or not?"
A look at the clock shows that your dad will be home in around 10 to 15 minutes; so while you still have time, it would be best to not dawdle.

"Yeah, I will." Shirin said, concentrating hard once again. Her eyes were open this time though, seeking an object she might be able to duplicate. She went for a pencil lying on her desk, trying to create a flawless copy upon the palm of her hand. It was strange... the feeling of trying to create matter out of the apparent nothingness.
As the girl summons up her magic, she concentrates on the thing she wants to duplicate. her eyes are taking in every part of the thing, analyzing every angle, every edge...
When Shirin's body finally relaxes, she sees a crystalline object in her hand. Aside from the color, it's a dead match for the pencil she pictured in her mind. It's as if the moisture in the air reacted to her will to form the thing as it slowly fades away out of the girl's mind.
"That was actually pretty good. Now I'm sure you will have someone else who can teach you mental magic and shielding. Is there anything else you want to know?"

"Just... why I have a gut feeling at times, when using magic, that something's off... Is this normal?" Shirin asked, finally letting the question out, it had been bothering her too much to leave in her mind much longer.
"Some people's bodies are very susceptible to magic. Other encounter a bit of resistance. I'm theorizing but you are probably in the latter; in which case that's nothing but your body getting used to the idea of casting. It'll fade quickly enough." While the sensation is a bit distracting it's not at all harmful to you.
"One last thing, and I figure you'll find this useful. Telepathy; sending mental messages to people. Basically all you need to do is think of a person, then think of the message you want to send them. It's how I'm talking with you, and you'll be able to communicate with whatever mage you're hooked in with."
Well that's certainly useful information...

"Well, I guess I can better train that with my physical mentor... Speaking of that, who actually assigned you to be my mentor?" Shirin's curiosity, once awoken, was difficult to put at rest again.
The voice pauses, if it could shrug you imagine it would do so.
"I just kinda found you. Not really sure of anything much more than that. Still, if you want to talk to whoever, that would be the way to do it."
Of course it doesn't look like there's gonna be time for that, because you can see your father's car pulling into the driveway.

"I should go now... But one thing; if I need to talk to you, by what name should I call you?" Shirin asked, as she prepared to concentrate on getting her apparel back to its 'natural' form.
"Well...I don't really have a name, that's for you to decide. As for talking to me,...just think it. I'll get the message"
As Shirin concentrates and closes her eyes, she wils the magical wardrobe and staff to return to wherever they came from. As she opens her eyes she can see that everything appears normal, despite her kow it's not so. Still...how exactly can she deal with this?

Shirin breathes in deep, and lets it out slowly. She then unlocks the door of her bedroom, straightens the shirt she's wearing and walks downstairs to meet up with her parents and to see if dinner's nearing completion.
Shirin walks out of her room, and anyone can tell there's something a bit different about her. It's not overtly obvious, but she's walking more confidently, with a bit more self-assurance, almost a bit of a swagger. Her magic is safely bottled up inside her, ready to be used once she needs it again.
"Was school nice today, dear?" Your father has picked up your improved mood and makes what would be a fairly logical conclusion, and you're not necessarily one to say otherwise.

"No dad... I'm just well rested and cheerful, that's all." Shirin said with a somewhat broader smile. She was half playing, half serious, but she guessed it would do for her father. She quickly turned to her mother "Mother? How long 'till dinner's ready?"
"Another 15 minutes Shirin...you're always so impatient!" She jokes as you help father set the table. Normally you have the patience of a minor goddess; but when it comes to food, it's a different story.
It's great to be doing something that feels "normal" after the day you've had. But then your parents start speaking in Urdu, which they often use when there's something that they want to keep from you (you know some basics but they speak too fast for you to pick out individual words) The problem is that you get a feeling of spprehension from father, the emotion filling your mother as they spoke.
You have no clue what, but something has Dad worried, if your gut is anythign to go on.

Shirin didn't try to pay too much attention to her parents. She went to grab a book of hers that had been lying in the living room untouched for quite a few days. Once she had dusted it off, she dropped herself on the couch and started reading.
Shirin went to read, it was what she always did when she needed to be alone. And "The Picture of Dorian Grey" was a great story to isolate oneself with. However, you still can't shake the feeling that you should know what the parents are talking about.
The voice in your head said you have mental magic abilities...maybe this would be a time to test that.

They idea reached her head, but she just couldn't do it... She couldn't bear the thought... the risk... that something might go wrong. She needed to become more confident of her abilities first, and only a true mentor could teach her that. Simultaneously, she remembered well Whitney's warning concerning the people that did not know of the existence of magic.
She slumped back into the cushions and tried to focus on the words in front of her, instead of the thoughts about magic, how alluring those thoughts might be.
As again, Shirin decided to opt for caution as opposed to curiosity. The fact that they are discussing something in Urdu probably means she shouldn't hear it anyway. So she would just have to bury her head in the book until dinner was ready.

Just as Shirin had really gotten into the story she was reading, her mother called from the kitchen that dinner was ready. Sighing a little and putting the book away she got up and sat down with her parents.
Shirin wasn't exactly the type who could be pulled away from many things, but she was hungry and that did carry some weight. Still...there was something that didn't feel right about the situation, but she let that lie for the time being.

Shirin is laying in her room, trying to put everything together. There's part of her that feels a need to talk to someone, be it Whitney or the voice in her head...and there's another part that wants to ignore the entire thing, to lock it up like Pandora's box and pretend it never happened.
The silent war in her head rages, to the point where she can't even focus on her book. Marking the page, you sigh.
What's a girl to do?

Shirin was exhausted, and the mental war did nothing to help her. What she needed, more than direction, was time. Time to process what was happening; to see where she needed to go from here. Sleep was the best thing for her...

Almost as soon as the girl's clock alarm was about to go off, she silenced it with a well-placed slap. Shirin was awake and alret, but also noticably flushed. She had a great dream involving Whitney, but some aspects of it...suffice to say they were things that the girl was too embarrased to think about again. However...part of her was trying to regain that sensation, needing to discuss things with the enigmatic witch.
Regardless, independent of her thoughts, she needs to get ready for school.
