Magic. The idea has been around, be it the David Blaine-style inhuman feats of concentration, or the David Copperfield-esque matters made by sleight of hand and guile (but not guile.) And then there's magic in the world of fiction; the ability to sculpt the very environment we live in just on one's whim. Entire swaths of libraries across the world carved out to thousands upon thousands of books of men and women of all ages who through lineage, training, or just dumb luck, come into the talents that most of us could only dream of.
And in the end, we all have thought it at one point or another, right? What would it be like to have even just a fraction of that kind of power, even if just for a day? or a week? We've all dreamed about it, but at the same time we all know that it's impossible. Science has this pretty well covered in this regard; if there was a way for a young girl to make plants bud with a caring touch, or transform a sunny day into a vicious tempest, surely we would have found out how to do it.
Of course, there's still that lingering doubt.
What If?
If somehow, something snapped and without any warning or provocation, young girls that had never met, or had anything in common, had awakened to eerie, almost inexplicable control over the very building blocks of nature? What would they do? How would they act? Would it become a worldwide phenomenon or would they stay silent, never letting word of their secret see the light of day?
That, as they say, is what we will find out.

This is an experiment I figured I'd try out, just to see how things would work. The idea is mostly freeform and while I have some definite ideas in mind, it may seem like I'm going off of nothing so the ability to think on one's feet is vital. Each person who signs up will have their own thread, at least to start, as if the opportunity arises I may combine threads and plotlines.
But that's for later. Right now is the time to jump into a strange new world and break new ground.
For anyone interested, post in here with the following:
Character's name - Remember, these are teenage/preteen girls from the 21st century whose sole knowledge of magic coming in is from JK Rowling and/or David Blaine/Criss Angel
Hometown/Residence -can be anywhere in the world, but keep things reasonable (English-speaking is a plus).
Bio - Preferably a paragraph or so, mainly on the character's family and background/upbringing.
Personality - Basically what makes your character tick. Also if you want to throw in any not-so-subtle hints as to what element you would like, here's where you should put them
Appareance - What your character looks like/how she dresses. Never know when it might be relevant.
Once a character is approved I'll put up a thread and PM you about it.

Backstory: Ever since she was a child, Shalin was an animal lover. She was the geek of her class all the way through middle school, being one of the few to watch mainly the Discovery Channel and Animal Planet when not doing work. That certainly didn't help her get along with her peers. Her strange interests, her short stature, and her obsession with the color green were the three main points she was teased about. Except around "nerds" who share her common interests, her personality could be considered anywhere from enigmatic to psychotic. Even to this day, she wears a solid green outfit unless circumstances prohibit her from doing so.

Biography- Calliope yearned for anything to happen around her. Living in the capital city of Delaware more happened in the smaller tri-state cities that surrounded it (Pennsylvania, Maryland and New Jersey). With zero exciting opportunities on her horizon, Calliope decided to create a world of her own. With a passion for writing and unbound creativity. Calliope's writing allows her to create a world to escape from her boring, bland and uninteresting world.
Biography Skye was born and raised in an upper-middle class home, being spoiled by her father, who has high expectations of her. Her mother died in a car crash, or so she was told. As a child Skye was a shy, timid little girl who preferred to play in the woods and fields alone, or stay inside and play music or read fantasy stories and books. She is genuinely talented with music, and is a natural with the flute. She is in her high school orchesta and is a smart girl, but prone to daydreaming and flights of fancy. She is not socially popular, even among most other teens in the music department. Her father has already set her up for education in a hard-working but prestigious college in two years, but Skye has gotten complacent.
Personality Skye is very quiet most of the time, preferring to think rather than speak. She is soft-spoken and polite, but she doesn't have a lot of common, real-world sense, being raised in a sheltered environment. Pleasing her father is the most important thing to her, but she has a wild and active imagination. When she's not playing music and outside in the New England landscape, she's reading fantasy novels and wishing she had more confidence.
Biography: Shirin's parents fled Iran quickly after the Islamic Revolution because they were Zoroastrians. Over a decade later, Shirin was born as an American citizen. Her father is a successful university professor, and because of the above average income Shirin has so far experienced only a life of wealth.
Her youth was marked by being fed American culture at school, while at home she was taught all about Persian culture and Zoroastrianism.
However, when she reached her teens, her life changed severely. She was often bullied because she had no social contacts at all, and discriminated because of her ethnicity.
In this period she was also diagnosed with Asperger, which clarified her social ineptness.
At first, her parents tried psychiatric help, but they found their daughter unwilling to undergo such process.
So Shirin taught herself how to deal with her problems, she became more open to the world around her, and learned to keep the bullying at bay.
Adolescence came late for her, by psychological changes started around her 15th year. She became agnostic, which was luckily accepted by her parents, who were always so kind to her.
In High School she is by some regarded as someone not worthy of attention, while several guys 'secretly' adore her for her attractiveness. Shirin tries not to have too much contact with the outside world however, so for now those guys have had little chance with her.
Personality: Shirin is a very scared person, because the world is so big to her. She often seems shy, but if you ever manage gain her trust, she becomes very friendly and rather talkative. She is very smart, always scoring high marks in class, even though she is not all too driven by her parent's high expectations. At home she's always very kind to her parents, and they to her. She is also very dependent on her parents, they are one of the few people she can really talk with.
At home she spends most hours in her room, reading fantasy books and old Persian tales and poems, or writing her own. She also listens Progressive Rock at any possible moment because it calms her mind.
When she isn't at home she often walks through the city, often seeking quiet places along water. This is because she feels a certain affinity for water, as it is a calm substance, and of great spiritual importance in Zoroastrianism. She doesn't dislike the ideas of this religion, but just feels uncertain to whether there truly is any deity out there.
Appearance: Shirin is a girl of more than average beauty, even though the fact that she doesn't care much about her beauty has its effects on it. She has long, dark hair. No one has been able tell whether it's actually brown or black. Furthermore she has captivating brownish green eyes, an oddity. The clothes she wears are often plain, and she prefers white and black, or a combination of it.
Biography: Megan, a 15 year old freshman at Topeka High, has been dealing with all the normal pressures of teenage life. Trying to cope with the home family life on top of school politics and, of course, boys can be a little exhausting.
However, Megan, the studious girl that she is, has looked past the distraction to ace her first semester at Topeka High and has set up a bright educational career for herself. She's not the most athletic girl, although she accells at Golf, but she makes up for her altheticism with an astounding gift of speech. She's recently been recruited by the debate program.
Personality: Megan is a fairly independant spirit, although she would sometimes rather be part of the mainstream. She's neither here nor there on most things, although she enjoys being the odd girl out. She usually ends up being the devil's advocate in most arguments, and is surprisingly good at holding her own. However, her wishy-washy attitude is quickly tossed aside for passionate argument when the right subject comes along. Megan is attracted to the impossible, the improbable and the downright supernatural. She has heard several times from several people that these things are impossible and improbably, but she maintains that one percent possibility as hope. And when it comes to Megan, hope is something you can never extinguish.
As for her family, her mom stays at home while her dad works long hours. He has only the time to barely compliment her on her accomplishments before the day is done. Megan wishes her dad could see her on top of the world, but the longer things last, the less likely her father is to see the woman she's become.
Appearance: Megan is a normal Kansas girl. Too windy for skirts, too unpredictable for shorts, everyday is a good day for blue jeans. A button-down blouse serves well for most occasions, and she never leaves the house without her tennis shoes, which she swears help her more than any shoe on the course than even a golf shoe. Ponytails work best to keep the hair out of her face. To her it's about her need for perfect golf, but for her mom, it's to keep her pretty face visible to all. One thing is for sure though: Megan always has a pen and some scrap of paper on hand. Whether to keep score with her golf buddies or to work out a tough math problem, ink and papyrus are her best friends.
Hometown/Residence: Tokyo, Japan. An apartment with her parents. She is an only child.
Bio: Mitsuki has always been a very intelligent child, but never very studious. When forced to do schoolwork, she was very efficient and could finish faster and usually more accurately than most other children her age; however, due to her carefree attitude towards homework, her grades are only ever average. She is not very social with other children because she feels they are not on the equivolent intellectual level as she. Her mother and father are very intelligent, but are not very wealthy. They manage the apartment complex they live in (a result of grandpa still being a minor yakuza). Mitsuki doesn't really have any aspirations for her future since she knows she'll likely end up having to run the apartment complex when she's older.
Personality: Mitsuki's life is driven by being a total anime fangirl. Unless it's about anime, she will hardly speak to you. She spends the majority of her free time watching anime, reading manga or playing anime-related games on the computer. The majority of her social interactions take place online. She does chores around the apartment complex for spending money, and it is usually spent on cosplay or other anime goods (i.e figures, plushies, wallscrolls, etc). Grandpa funds a good portion of her hobby as well. She especially likes the main character of A Certain Scientific Railgun, Misaka Mikoto, and Pikachu for their ability to control and generate electricity.
Appareance: Mitsuki is a small Japanese girl that loves to wear tennis shoes, jeans and a T-shirt (because they're comfortable and easy to do chores in). She has short black hair and thick glasses. She despises her school uniform.
