"Whoa whoa, slow down!" Megan says as she tries to calm the girl. "My name is Megan. I have no idea how I got here and it certinely didn't involve a painting! I was sleeping last I remember and then I woke up here. How did you get here?"
Maybe this girl can give more insight to what on earth is going on. If it's still earth that is. And a painting? In the middle of a volcanic hell?
"Just get me back to my bed" Megan thinks.

"Okay Megan, I'm Allison. As for why I'm here...well, it's a long story, and I don't like talking about it." She's blushing slightly, her face a few shades lighter than her auburn colored hair.
"But...you said you didn't do anythign with a Painting? then what about Julie?" Seeing your blank look she clarifies. "Kinda older looking, maybe early 30's; longer brown hair, probably wearing a white coat or something and that :3 face...you know?"

This volcanic slope seems to be fairly gentle, although Allison seems to be showing off, hopping from crag to crag as if it's nothing. Megan does her level best to mimic the adventurous redhead, but eventually even she has to restrain herself from doing the crazy kind of acrobatic stunts this girl is pulling off, opting for what looks to be a safer approach.
The path upwards does steepen noticably, before the peak of this molten pinnacle (OOC: No, not that one) is in view. There's a gurgling noise coming from beneath your feet, your shoes sinking into the heat-softened mud.
"So..." Allison finally breaks the silence "I have to admit I'm curious. You don't seem like you have anything special going on, but at the same time it seems like there's something bothering you. It's like..." she pauses to find the right word. "It's like you're too apprehensive about your future; you worry about the consequences down the line. "I can think of three reasons why I'm not worried; and why you don't need to be worried." Allison quips, looking down at Megan. You're precariously near to the lip of the volcano, it won't take much more before you're at its mouth. You've tried your best to keep up; your shoes keep getting stuck deeper and deeper in the mud.
"First, worrying about the present doesn't help you one damn bit. It's fine to be prepared for the worst, but if you're so paranoid that you expect it, it ruins the whole point." Allison steps down of the ledge and walks over to you.
"Second, I'm here and I know what I'm doing. Trust me, I didn't get to what I am now by worrying all the time; sooner or later you have to take a risk. It's gonna happen; and I'm betting your time is gonna come really soon."
"Third; You're up to your shins in semi-molten lava. That stuff is about 450 degrees hot. If you haven't died from that, I doubt that a little fire is gonna be of any consequence."
As you look down you notice that Allison is right; that's not mud you've been wading through, but slowly-cooling lava. And yet nothing seems burned, not even your sneakers. As if to drive the point home, the other girl put a slab of lava on your outstretched arm.
Your skin should be on fire, nerves charred dead and flesh seared off until nothing is left but bone, if that. But it's not painfully not; it's not even scalding. In fact the molten magma is comfortably warming on your arm.

"We'll see...but first there is something I should tell you." Allison says, dryly, before standing right behind you and whispering the following words into your ear.
"you're a witch."
That's all you hear before something happens that you never would have expected. Allison gave you a sharp push in the back. It didn't hurt but it was enough to knock her off balance, sending her ostensibly into the volcanic pit below. Megan had maybe a second and a half to realize what was going on before her body met the liquid fire.
Heat enveloped the girl's body, but that wasn't the right word. It was not exactly heat.
Warmth. that was a better term for it. Megan felt pure soft warmth engulfing her senses, as if a fire had been ignited within her soul and was quickly spreading to every nerve in her body. The magma covered her body, flooding the girl's mind with an arcane stream of radiating energy. She couldn't fully comprehend what was going on, only that it felt...right. As if she had always known and needed this power.

As the girl concentrates, she can feel the strange energy pulsing through her, running into her legs, out the soles of her feet and into the lava, trying her best to shape the stuff to her will.
It didn't take too long before the lava answered her command. More or less.
What the girl was able to summon was less of a pillar of towering lava so much as it was a rising wave of the stuff, the almost tidal waves rising and falling in rythym with her ever faster beating heart. Eventually one swell towers over the newborn magician's body, carrying her with it as it slammed into the side of the crag.
Apparently Megan could survive temperature damage. Blunt force damage, such as smacking one's back into a stone wall, was apparently another story. The blow almost knocked the wind out of her and was screaming in pain, but the injury didn't seem to be threatening.
It just hurt. A lot. The two pieces of good news were that she was able to do something with her "powers", and she had gotten herself onto the rocky outcropping. Now if only she could stand up without writhing in agony...
"You want some help with that? Flames aren't just used to burn things anymore..." the mysterious voice intrudes on your mind again; this time the pounding in your head only magnifies as it speaks. But if it has any ideas on how to proceed...

Megan takes a second to catch her breath back. Or maybe a minute. It's not everyday someone is slammed against a rocky crag by a wave of molten lava.
Once stablized, she focuses on communicating with the voice in her head. The only problem is, well, how does one speak with a voice in their head? She concentrates on the words she wants to say, while screaming them too, just to make sure the voice gets the message (and maybe a little payback for the pounding in her head).
"WHO ARE YOU?! HOW CAN YOU HELP!"
After yelling at the mysterious voice, Megan suddenly realized why she came to this outcropping of rocks in the first place: the box. Waiting for her response, she goes looking for the box among the rocks.

"I'm a voice in your head. But I think you knew that already..."
Great. Now it's learned sarcasm. Of course with the throbbing headache it's hard to really pay that much attention.
"As for helping, you need to understand how your powers work. You might have guessed this but most of the time you just will something to happen and if it's in your power to make it so, it is." You're pretty sure you got that from the wave of lava that got you here.
"Healing is different though. It requires the caster to evoke one of a small set of emotions. Passion, love, joy, you get the idea. If you can trigger that emotion, you're nine tenths of the way there."
Well that's certainly useful, considering that moving your legs seems impossible without screeching in mind-wrenching agony.

"Oh crap, ok, ok, don't look at it Megan. Don't look at your legs. Just close your eyes..."
And from there she escapes into the darkness of her eyes and her endless imagination. Her thoughts fly by, past her parents hugging her tight at christmas, past her first day of high school, past all the boys she's ever crushed on right to herself, standing at the front of a long stretch of green grass. She's holding her driver, ready for the first strike of a long golf game. This was her passion. It's what helped calm her and has helped her focus in times of need. What better time of need than now?
As she maintains her focus, she raises her hands over her legs. Behind her eyes, she's breathing slowly and steadily, staring down at the small dimpled white ball with a bright red two stamped on it.
Until...PING!

It was a strange thing to concentrate on, but if that's what the girl used to calm herself down, it had a shot of working. She almost saw the course as a second home after all; so its familiarity is quite calming. Just shifting the weight of her legs was excruciating but her mind was too focused to give in to the pain.
*PING*
As soon as ball and club connected in her mind; the magical energy kicked in again, sending its mystical power into her wounded legs. The girl felt warmth engulf her senses but it was a different kind of warmth; a softer calming sensation. The kind of hypnotic warmth one feels when you're huddled next to a glowing fireplace and wrapped in a blanket while a blizzard pounds outside.
When she finally reopened her eyes, bone and muscle were safely tucked into their proper places inside her body; the lacerations they opened in her skin were almost invisible. It was almost as if the injury never even happened.
"Now that that's taken care of, you may want to check out what's changed."
You're not sure what the voice means but it's worth looking.
