The Prisoner's Dilemma
(An open setup for seven players)
You may be familiar with the Prisoner's Dilemma, a classic game theory 101 thought experiment that goes as follows:
You and your friend are both arrested under suspicion for a crime. In prison, you are separated, and taken to a cell to be interrogated. The investigator tells you that they have solid evidence that you are co-conspirators to the crime, but they aren't sure who the mastermind is. A confession from you that you were a participant, but NOT the mastermind, would give you a lighter sentence. You'll still go to jail for a one year sentence (leniency granted for your cooperation), but for a lesser term than your friend, who would be locked up for twenty years. Of course, you could stay silent. In that case, the tables would be turned: your friend is in a very similar prison cell this very moment being given the same offer—if you don't talk and your friend does, you would be the one headed for a twenty year sentence! Now, you and your friend aren't fools. You've done your research—if neither of you confesses, they can at best charge you for a lesser crime, and you'd serve only a sentence of three years. Similarly, if you BOTH confess, there won't be enough evidence for the police to arrest either of you as the mastermind (what with conflicting witness testimony and all), but with two confessions they can easily lock you both away for seven years (the standard sentence for the crime you've been accused of). Do you stay silent? Or confess and sell out your friend?
This is the Prisoner's Dilemma Mafia, a loving interpretation of this thought experiment I learned when I was just a small boy. Here are the rules:
6 players are Prisoners: Prisoner
Abilities:
1. You may vote.
2. At Night, you may choose to Cooperate or Defect. If you Defect, and no other player chooses to Defect in the same Night, you win the game and leave immediately. However, if ANY NUMBER of other players chooses to Defect as well, all players who chose to Defect will be killed. By default you will choose to Cooperate (if you submit no action you are assumed to be Cooperating).
1 of you is the Serial Killer Serial Killer
Abilities
1. You may vote.
2. At Night, you may kill another player.
Rules:
1. Standard Mafia rules apply
2. No Day deadlines, but I expect a quick pace of play. Nights will last twenty four hours maximum.
3. The game begins with a no-kill Night zero.
4. The order of operations for this game is as follows:
1) Check for players who have chosen to Defect.
2) If multiple Defections, resolve those kills. If there was only one, note that player.
3) Resolve SK's Night kill.
4) If the single Defecting player noted in (2) is still alive, resolve victory condition.
Wincons:
Prisoners can win by either through Defecting or by lynching the Serial Killer. If a Prisoner has been killed from Defecting, they can still win if the Serial Killer is lynched.
Serial Killer wins if they control the lynch/are the last player alive/etc.
There probably won't be any flavor for this game. But we will see. I'm starting and probably mostly running this game on mobile, so it isn't trivial to do flavor.
I'll fire as soon as we have seven. and I'll just use this as the game thread.
@bur game theory is great. I took a course when I was like 13 at some "your parents want validation that you are the special snowflake they say you are" camp and kind of took an interest. I studied it at low levels in college. it's a fun field.

Can we have Megiddo removed from the forum forever please?

I'm an organic chemist (minoring in mathematics), though I applied (and got an invitation to entrance exam today) for pedagogical studies so I could be a teacher for chemistry and mathematics.
And about thesis topics: I look for a instructor first and then together we think of a fitting topic for my thesis. So yeah, the topics have quite high range of spectrum.
However, I'm NOT an engineer. Engineer students can be found at out rivaling university.

(Fun fact: I wanted (and still kinda want) my thesis to have something to do with game theory.)
We are going to be good friends then.
I thought you were an engineer? Can you choose pretty wide topics for the thesis?

This will be my 3rd ongoing game, so expect less from me.

DioAtogaholic any time I get a chance*@Proph: You saw the trailer for ZTD that was released week or two ago, right?
It's good that you make such distinctions so us master race engineers don't get confused for you mere scientists.
more important question: does the rest of the game keep going if someone defects alone and wins?
2. the game will continue. there could be multiple winners... from different factions!
i think iso is in and atoga isnt. which puts us one away.
It was. Too bad I have no freaking clue what the Zero is trying to say in the English trailer...
