The Dealer sat at the table, studying the cards. They were quite new, glossy, edges defined, patterns exact. He tossed a few out onto the green felt, familiarizing himself with the amount of glide, loving the way they slid to a cushioned stop. The others would arrive soon, but for now, the Dealer enjoyed the silence, the solitary card play. That dear silence wouldn't prevail much longer.
The next great battle would be fought on this tabletop, with subtle tells and shrewd reads instead of swords or guns. Despite the apparent innocuous nature of the weaponry, the stakes were just as high as ever. Lives would be lost; souls would be at risk. As it always had been, as it always would be.
The Dealer fished two fingers into his left vest pocket and retrieved the list of names. Only four combatants, one of the reasons that a more civilized battlefield was allowable. These were names well-known to the Dealer; the clash would be interesting. Reaching into his mental grab bag of games, the Dealer scrutinized some possible variants to ply this time around. Bowls and Bones? Better with a few more players. Haberdashery? A bit too whimsical. Meaning of Life? An option, but it took forever to come to a head.
Perhaps...Baker's Dozen. Designed for four players, and with just enough volatility to keep them on edge. Yes, that would do nicely. That meant that the Dealer needed 13 cards; 13 unique game concepts to employ in testing the mettle of those who would sit at the table.
With the tiniest hint of a smile, the Dealer began to shuffle.
This is the signup thread for Full Deck Mafia, a medium-complexity, medium-flavor mini for 12 players! This setup was reviewed by Tanarin and Wheat_Grinder; my appreciation goes out to them for their patience and wisdom.
Signups will be open for at least 72 hours or until we have 12 players, whichever comes later.
A few notes to prospective players:
- There are no vanilla roles, but it's not a role madness game.
- That said, this setup does have some potential to be swingy.
This game will also feature "Gambler's Whimsey", an experimental interactive spectator chat thread. Gambler's Whimsey is a separate (non-mafia) game in and of itself; it will NOT provide the full setup...at least, not to start. In fact, the ruleset for Gambler's Whimsey may actually be larger than the ruleset for the main game ( ). I'm mildly (read: really) excited about this, but feel the need to note:
1) We have to fill the game before we can have a spectator thread.
2) Depending on the number of spectators, it may be a little harder to find replacements, so if you join as a player, please, PLEASE, PLEASE honor the commitment to the best of your ability!
To play in Full Deck Mafia, post "deal me /in" (or otherwise make it clear that you're /in), include the number of games you're currently alive in, and tell me which card in a standard 52-card deck is your favorite and why.
To participate in Gambler's Whimsey, post "/hit me" (or otherwise make it clear that you're /spectating), and tell me which card in a standard 52-card deck is your favorite and why.
Replacements are always welcome and appreciated! Standard "/replace" will do, and, of course, you're welcome to tell me which card in a standard 52-card deck is your favorite and why.

Soooo, um, when I try to edit the OP, I get an error message: Non Latin Unicode characters are temporarily not allowed.
Can anyone clue me in to which characters might be causing the issue?
Also, to make it clear, since I've gotten some questions: Gambler's Whimsey is a separate (non-mafia) game in and of itself; it will NOT provide the full setup...at least, not to start. In fact, the ruleset for Gambler's Whimsey may actually be larger than the ruleset for the main game ( ).
My best guess is it's the bullets that are causing the issue for you. Your " should be fine - the issue with hans's OP was that he used curly quotes like these: “ ”

KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
So, could a player in say, 3 games play Gambler's Whimsey without much hassle? Or would that be as commitment heavy as the mafia half?
Gambler's Whimsey is designed to accommodate even the busiest of schedules. You might fare somewhat better if you avidly read the main game thread, but you certainly don't have to; one could actually play Gambler's Whimsey without ever looking in the main game thread. There certainly won't be any minimum posting requirements (although you'll likely want to post at least once per Day and once per Night).

Since Iso already said the Queen of Spades, I'll go with Jack of Diamonds since it's one half of a Pinochle.
