"At the start, there was the Word and his companion Demernae, and it was good. Were they husband and wife, brother and sister, or both? All that matters is that one was male and one was female, for with the melding of their Vitality they birthed all the worlds of the Celestials. The firmament and the earth, the trenches of the ocean and the fires of heaven – all of these were wrought by the Word and Demernae, and for untold years the two expressed their joy for life through creation. But it could not last.
Was it Demernae’s jealousy or the Word’s callousness – it matters not. A disagreement became an argument, an argument became a fight, and a fight became a war. The Creators came to blows, and existence trembled at their anger. Nothing was left unscathed in the aftermath of their war – those worlds that were not destroyed outright were scarred. Damaged on the inside, like the Word and Demernae. And when their war ended, the Word was victorious. Rather than annihilate his wayward companion, or enslave her, the Word choose to…separate her. All that Demernae had been was divided up into its component parts, each one a being of substantial power, though none her equal, - or the Word’s, for that matter. He stripped out her Joy, he extracted her Rage, he wiped clean her Mind. He carved her into pieces – some ephemeral, others physical – in the hope that she would prove more tractable that way.
But Demernae’s pieces would not bend to his will either. The Word, despairing at the loss of his companion, took two of the parts he had loved most of her – her Imagination and her Contentment – and was never seen again. Surely he perished. The male cannot live without the female, nor the female without the male, and that was proven as Demernae’s parts tried to recreate what she had been. Though her Genius pondered the problem for eons, though her Might exerted all its force, though her Ego pictured itself whole, the remnants of Demernae could not bring her back, and as the millennia passed, they forgot their former unity and became entities unto themselves, calling themselves Celestials.
They lived that way for untold epochs, bleeding out what was left of the Vitality Demernae had once possessed, even as their worlds decomposed, dying of the wounds inflicted in Demernae’s great struggle. Many of her parts simply ceased to exist, unable or unwilling to continue existing as independent entities. By the time Voes and Yblisa encountered them, the Celestials were little more than tyrannous vampires, stalking the husks of their worlds for any Vitality they could devour to put off the inevitability of their abnegation….”
- from the Turapian myth of Demernae and the Word
The frozen nothingness closed in on Merios, the Many-Colored Splendor, Elemental of Leaves, as he stood alone at the Clock. He barely saw it. The sarcophagus was empty. Voes was gone. The Mother had forsaken him. Even the Reaper, the monstrous being he had served, had abandoned him.
It is right that I should be obliterated, Merios thought to himself. An Elemental without purpose is piteous. I envy Melwayeen, who abandoned existence – and I shall join him in oblivion, soon enough.
The bubble that had once protected the Clock Grounds from whatever was happening outside it – and what was happening outside? The end of Creation? If so, it was all that Creation deserved – was retracting rapidly. In moments it would converge on the Clock, destroying Time and Memory and everything else that was lost.
They were my friends, my companions, my fellow servants. And I plotted to murder them. The Reaper told me to seek my own purpose, but I see now how futile that would be. I was made to serve. There is no-one left to serve.
Seconds now, only. His leaves were beginning to curl up and turn brown. Obliteration. At last. Merios closed his eyes as the end of existence consumed him. There was a light all around him, then darkness…and then, curiously, a light again.
“You can open them now, Merios.”
One eye cracked open, then quickly shut again. The light was blinding and seemed to be coming from all around him, though he thought he could see a figure outlined in the incandescence.
“You must not fear the light. There is time for it, as there is time for darkness. Open your eyes.”
“I’ll be blinded”, whispered the Elemental of Leaves.
“And you see now?” said the voice, sounding amused.
“Where am I?” asked Merios, eyes still closed tight.
“The First Halls. Where it all began. Here, she defied me. But that was so long ago.” Now the voice, which seemed to come from everywhere, sounded wrenchingly sad.
“Who are you?”
“You have a Father and a Mother, do you not? Consider me your Grandfather, then. Open your eyes, Merios. We have work to do.”
"When you look up at the stars, what do you see?"
"...Nothing worth saving."

Welcome to the signup thread for Celestial Mafia, the sequel to Seasons Mafia. No prior knowledge of Seasons Mafia is required to enjoy this game. This is a game for 21 players. To sign up, post /in in this thread. Please include the number of games you are currently in.
This game uses a slightly modified version of the RobRoy system of randomization:
Players in 0 games get an auto-in.
Players in 1 game get a weighting of 2.
Players in 2 games get a weighting of 1
Players in 3 games have a weighting of 0. These players can sign up to play, but won't get in unless less than 21 players with a non-zero weighting are signed up. These players can sign up to replace, if they wish.
Once all players have been assigned a weighting, I will use random.org to select the player list for this game.
Please be aware that joining the game will require a commitment to post at least once every two or three days for several months. Absences longer than that should be cleared with me in advance to avoid being replaced or modkilled (both of which are very disruptive to the game, and make it less fun for everyone involved). I take this commitment very seriously and I ask you to do the same: please do not join if you feel you will be unable to meet the above requirement.
This game features the following:
- Flavor completely written from scratch.
- Built-in protection against mod-gaming, flavor-gaming, and early massclaims.
- Central game mechanic based around the struggle to survive the worlds of the Celestials as their vitality slowly ebbs away.
- Randomized scumteam. Almost all roles have been designed to be able to play as either alignment. After all players have been randomly assigned a role, a mafia will be randomly selected from among them.
- Deadlines set at the beginning of each game Day.
This game does not feature spectators. I do not allow anyone (except Xyre and Cantripmancer, my reviewers) to see the setup until after the game has ended.

KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.
