Seven years ago, a small team from the long-abandoned Tau'ri used a Stargate to reach the planet Abydos, ancient stronghold of the Supreme System Lord Ra. Ra was the greatest and strongest of System Lords and had ruled for thousands of years - when he arrived on the planet shortly thereafter, the Tau'ri strike force should have been crushed without mercy. But somehow, impossibly, the Tau'ri defied the odds - they incited a rebellion much like the one that drove the Gou'Ald from the Tau'ri itself so many years ago, and in the ensuing confusion they snuck a bomb onto Ra's flagship.
Ra presumably died that day (certainly, no one has seen him since), opening a power vacuum at the very heart of the Gou'Ald Empire. The surviving System Lords have been fighting each other ever since. And for the last five years, the Tau'ri have been in the thick of the fighting, led by the notorious SG-1. They have rebuffed multiple attempts at reprisal, including a direct attack by the System Lord Apophis, plus several attempts at assassination or capture. They have allied with the Asgard and are rumored to be working with the Tok'ra, and they have grown more bold by the day - even launching a strike on the shipyard where Apophis's new flagship was under construction.
In recent months, moreover, it is suspected that another threat to the System has emerged. The identity of this assailant is unknown - all that is known is that they field starships with hyperdrive and that they have managed to eliminate several lesser Gou'Ald in a manner of months.
In order to deal with these issues, the System Lords have called for a summit of all their members - a summit to discuss what can be done about the Tau'ri in light of their inclusion in the Protected Planets Treaty, and to discuss defenses against the unknown threat, and perhaps even to anoint a new Supreme System Lord. Tensions ran high among the System Lords, as they always do when so many powerful Gou'Ald are together, but in the light of the threats the negotiations were making progress... until the minor Gou'Ald Ares was found in one of the hallways, riddled with ordinance from projectile weapons and a single blast from a staff weapon - the favored weapons of the Tau'ri and the traitor Teal'c.
This can only mean one thing: SG-1 is here. And now the System Lords must band together - or soon there will be no System Lords at all.
Game State: Over Deadline: None
Sample Role PMs:
"This is Ares. He's not a System Lord, actually - he's a minor Gou'Ald. That's actually reflected in Earth mythology - the Greeks remembered Ares as the god of war, but he was a subordinate god - though not actually subordinate to Zeus. Zeus might be a later invention, actually, representing the human revolt that kicked the Gou'Ald off of Earth; Ares was actually serving Cronus. As far as the Tok'ra can tell, he's only at the summit because a couple of his worlds got attacked by whoever or whatever has been attacking the Gou'Ald lately. He shouldn't be too much of a problem."
Welcome to Stargate SG-1: The System Lord Summit Mafia, Sacrificial NPC! You are Ares, a minor Gou'Ald invited to this summit to give your account of recent attacks on a world you used to rule. However, you ran into SG-1 and got killed by them. In the end, your only purpose in this summit was to get killed off to show everyone that SG-1 is here. Unfortunate for you.
You are Vanilla Town. You have no special abilities.
You win when all threats to the town are dead.
Please confirm via return PM.
"Um, General Hammond, is this a joke? Why am I reading this during a briefing to prepare for infiltrating a System Lord summit?"
"I don't know exactly why myself, Doctor Jackson. All I know is that this fell out of the quantum mirror in Area 51 a while back and it insisted that somebody should read it before the System Lord summit happened."
"Uh, ok. So! This letter appears to come from someone called Ronon Dex, who... apparently lives in the Pegasus galaxy? He claims that he used to be something called a Runner, and that there's no way that him or anyone else from the Pegasus Galaxy will be showing up at this summit. Okay, I'm as confused as you are. Let's get back to the briefing."
Welcome to Stargate SG-1: The System Lord Summit Mafia, theopor_COD! Or rather, not, because you're not actually in this game. You are a Stargate Atlantis character, and there is absolutely no chance that you will be at this summit for System Lords. You exist mainly to warn falseclaiming Mafiosos that they should claim characters who are actually from SG-1 and to provide an example of power role formatting.
You are Not Appearing in this Game. You have the following special abilities:
Activated Abilities: Runner - Each night, you may choose to activate this ability. If you do, you will kill any other player who targets you during that game night.
You win when all threats to the town are dead.
Please confirm via return PM.

Rules (modified from my MafiaScum ruleset, deadline rules adapted from Prophylaxis's CT3 ruleset):
<0> I reserve the right to modify the rules if necessary (i.e, if a loophole is discovered).
<1> This is a game. I hope that you have fun. In return, I ask that you not have your fun at the expense of the other players in this game (in other words, don't be a jerk). Repeated or extreme violations of this rule will result in replacement or modkill.
<1a> Attempting to use loopholes in the rules to gain an advantage in the game is a violation of rule 1, and will be treated as such. This applies to things like encrypted codes, invisible text, editing and deleting posts, trying to use the structure of the role PM to gain an advantage, etc. Please, use your common sense!
<2> If there is a conflict between a role and the rules, the role wins.
<3> Do not edit your posts, on pain of modkill.
<4> Quoting private communications (role PM, mason conversations, etc.) or pretending to do the same will result in a modkill. Paraphrasing, however, is not only acceptable but encouraged unless I explicitly say otherwise. Note that I will be more lenient about this rule than I have been in the past.
<5> You may not talk with other people about this game outside of the thread (but see Rule 2).
<6> This game will have a vote count but will have no FoS count.
<7> To help the game run smoothly, votes should be made in bold text, and use the format Vote: XXXX. Please use a colon when voting, as this makes finding votes for vote counts much easier. Unvoting is not required.
<8> If a player has a majority of votes, that player is lynched and cannot be unvoted. You may talk during twilight unless I state otherwise.
<9> Each game day will begin with a deadline in days equal to the number of players times 1.5, rounded up. Additionally, two extensions are available upon request: one for three days, the other for a number of days equal to the lynch threshold. Each is only available once, and only at the mod's discretion (don't be mad if I say no). The deadline may also be temporarily suspended in extreme situations, but this occurs strictly at the mod's discretion (it may not be requested).
<9a> Due to the Christmas/New Year holiday season, the deadline will be suspended from December 20, 2015 to January 3, 2016.
<10> If deadline occurs without a full majority, No Lynch will occur.
<11> You may elect to No Lynch any number of times during the course of the game. In order to No Lynch, one of the two following conditions must be met: either a majority of living players must vote no lynch, or no player receives a majority of votes before deadline. (To vote No Lynch, please use the format Vote: No Lynch.)
<12> Don't drink and post, or the mod will call you out on it. (This rule is an injoke and doesn't actually do anything.)
<13> After Day ends (with the exception of Day 0, which leads directly into Day 1), the game will enter night. Night will last 72 hours unless otherwise indicated. Do not post during Night, upon pain of modkill (though I'll be lenient if it's an accident).
<14> When you die, stop posting. You may make a single "Bah!"/"Frak you!"/etc. post in the thread. You may not include game content in this post. In addition, once you are dead, please do not discuss the game outside of the spectator chat until the game is over, as this makes the mod's life easier.
<15> All players need to post at least once every 72 hours, or inform me if this is not possible. If you do not post for 72 hours, you will be prodded. If you are prodded, then you will need to post something (a simple "/prodded" will suffice if you're short on time) within 48 hours (or 72 hours on weekends) or you will be replaced. The third time you fail to post for 72 hours, you will be replaced.
<15a> If you have limited access, you need to post to this effect in the thread. If I prod you despite you declaring V/LA status, call me on it and I will be duly embarrassed.
<15b> If you post before I get around to handing out the prod, you avoid the prod.
<16> Players may only use one special ability per day/night cycle (but see Rule 2). Passive abilities and factional abilities are not counted as special abilities for purposes of this rule; any activated abilities inherent to a faction, however, count normally
<17> This game will start on Day 1 after all players have confirmed (by the method specified in their role PM, which is via return PM for all roles in this game).
<18> Any player who is modkilled automatically loses the game unless the modkill is made to preserve the game state. I will modkill in the fashion that I deem most damaging to the modkilled player's faction and/or least damaging to the gamestate.
<19> I reserve the right to add rules if necessary (or if I really, really want to).
<20> Okay, that's enough formal-sounding stuff. Good luck, have fun!
Players familiar with the normal rules for a Mafia game should still review rule 4 (clarification on PM quoting), rule 7 (vote formatting), and rule 9 and 10 (deadline rules).
It is now Pregame. Role PMs are going out. Please confirm via the method indicated in your role PM (hint: via return PM). The game will begin once at least 90% of players have confirmed.
"Surely not more pressing than the issues this summit was convened to address? If we resolve our issues quickly, we can leave this place and the humans of the Tau'ri will pose no threat to us?"
"Can we come to an agreement faster than SG-1 can pick us off? You haven't faced them before. I have. They nearly killed me a while back. Do not underestimate them."
"Then let us find them! They must be hiding somewhere on this station, we shall muster our Jaffa and sweep the station!"
"If I may interrupt? One of my spies recently intercepted some Tok'ra communications. They indicated that the Tok'ra were plotting with the Tau'ri to send their best team to the summit, disguised as System Lords. I had thought the very idea preposterous, especially when SG-1 never showed up at the rendezvous point the message indicated, but now I am not so sure..."
"How? They are humans, not Gou'Ald, and we know what they look like. How could they possibly disguise themselves?"
"The message mentioned some kind of device that supposedly would allow the humans to take the form of their choice, coupled with some kind of mind-affecting toxin?"
The assembled System Lords paused. The very idea was preposterous, but SG-1 had done more outlandish things - even blown up a star. Could SG-1 actually be present at the meeting?
"Perhaps this presents an opportunity. We are all assembled here, yes? If SG-1 is here, they are among us. Let us come together as a group and find the Tau'ri hidden among us and end them. We are gods, yes? Gods are all-knowing."
The unspoken part of her argument hung in the air: "And if we happen to kill one of our own by mistake... mistakens happen, and I for one will not shed tears for the death of a rival".
Day 1 Deadline: January 26, 2016 at ~6:00 P.M. GMT -6 (30 days plus 2 week deadline suspension - see Rule 9a) Remaining Extensions: Option 1 (3 days), Option 2 (days equal to lynch threshold)
Due to the year-end holiday deadline suspension, extensions will not be granted Day 1.
All players have confirmed. It is now Day 1. You may post. Due to the short duration of pregame, any Night-and-Pregame-only QuickTopics will remain open for another 48 hours.
Yeh I noticed that too. And I just asked Taredas for confirmation on that 21 being correct and he said it is.
Best for the doublevoter to not come out to soon though.

@Cyan: reason for that post is that I saw a few new names in the list and don't want a newbie to cry "it's me" when he sees the topic we're talking about.

On the one hand, my initial reaction to tomsloger's post was also to want to vote him.
On the other hand, this excuse sounds like bull*****. I don't even see any newbies in this player list, and the reason as a whole just doesn't post a sniff test.
Hmmm. Hmm hmm hmm. I don't like either of you. But I feel like you are just jockeying for town points here. Double-voters are rarely able to keep their identities hidden for long, and aren't guaranteed to be town anyway.

Vote Rhand
Not a random vote.
Was this vote due to his not asking in-thread about the extra vote or for another reason?
@Cyan: I'm not sure who notVoxxicus is and I never saw ProwlingPengolin before.
@Citric: I asked it privatley for the same reason: I didn't want to open that topic. But then Tom did.
@Citric: I asked it privatley for the same reason: I didn't want to open that topic. But then Tom did.
This sounds really anti-town. Like..you immediately noticed something within 5 seconds of the game starting and kept it to yourself on the logic that..what? You are town and hoped that none of the collective scum team would notice? Come on.
I feel like you noticed, and assumed that everyone would(because this is the logical conclusion, and just wanted to be able to say 'BUT NO ONE COME FORWARD', because that just *sounds* like the town thing to say.
Because..why? There is maybe one new player in the game? 'NotVoxxicus' is clearly not new, he is literally some kind of homage/gimmick of another player.
Vote stands.
Feelings re: tomsloger undetermined, need more time to feel him out. Leaning slightly scum.

@Cyan: If I wanted an excuse to say that out loud for town points, then why would I ask that question to Taredas privately instead of posting it publicly (like Tom did)?
The only reason for that post is what I told you: the topic was opened and I didn't want a noob (of which we apparently don't have any) to claim the ability out of the blue.
@Tom: To not open the topic. There's no reason for us to be discussing a doublevoter.
Tom's use of "help" in that last post sounds wrong.
Help what? It's something i feel town wouldn't say.
If he was town thinking I'm scum, he would use 'help you', not 'help'.
It would make sense if he was town thinking I'm town as then I should be helping his cause, but I can't imagine him being town thinking I'm town with the second part of his post.
It makes sense as scum knowing I'm town, because then he knows I should be helping the general cause.

Because I consider my role to be similar to a miller.
I am not vanilla - but I am a role that is historically aligned with the mafia, despite being town. I don't wish to claim further than that point, because my role is actually useful for town as well, but consider it evidence that there is an active attempt by the moderators this game to circumvent setup gaming.
@Cyan: If I wanted an excuse to say that out loud for town points, then why would I ask that question to Taredas privately instead of posting it publicly (like Tom did)?
Like I said, I can't decide whether or not this part is a tell. And I'm not holding this against you, for that reason.
The only reason for that post is what I told you: the topic was opened and I didn't want a noob (of which we apparently don't have any) to claim the ability out of the blue.
This is the part that I have a problem with. We don't know how the ability will work yet. For all we know, the double voter will just show up as the same person voting twice in Vote Counts. Even if it doesn't, it doesn't take THAT long to figure out whom a double voter is. And like I said, there is no guarantee that a double voter is even town. Is it likely? Maybe. But it's not guaranteed. Overall your sentiment just doesn't come across as sincere, to me. Like I said, it seems like you just saw an opportunity to APPEAR town and jumped on it, without really thinking it through.
And trying to deflect onto Tom is even worse, incidentally.
I'm feeling really good about this, especially for a Day 1 vote.
@Iso:
I'm pretty sure Rhand is the better of the 2 votes. Especially based on this post by Tom:
im not sure that comparing your actions to those of his other scum read is going to help.
im still not sure why you asked privately. im not seeing the benefit.
He seems genuinely confused in that latter bit, and not in a scum way.
Admittedly though, I'm not positive. They might both be scum! But Rhand is infinitely more capable here.
Also..
@Tom: To not open the topic. There's no reason for us to be discussing a doublevoter.

This post comes across really poorly to me. Like I can literally feel waves of a shark circling his prey when I read it. Is it really just me? Come on, Iso. Work with me here.

@chris i like to think of myself as more of a lazy ravenclaw, but hufflepuff is probably more accurate.

I fully disagree with this assessment of this post. I thought he sounded much more sure of himself in his wording of it than someone would if they were scum. I didn't like one of Tom's early posts, but I've liked his more recent posts here.

After catching up, I agree with Cyan. Rand initially tries to keep information to himself and then poorly tries to reason it.
My inclination is to Vote: Rhand.
Am I the only one who noticed the last two names missing from the "Not Voting" section? I think it's likely just a mistake, but wanted to point it out as well.

It is too late for the pebbles to vote."
"This is a grave problem."
Day 1 will begin momentarily.

With 21 votes in play it takes 11 votes to lynch.
Day 1 Deadline: January 26, 2016 at ~6:00 P.M. GMT -6 (30 days plus 2 week deadline suspension - see Rule 9a)
Remaining Extensions: Option 1 (3 days), Option 2 (days equal to lynch threshold)
Due to the year-end holiday deadline suspension, extensions will not be granted Day 1.
All players have confirmed. It is now Day 1. You may post. Due to the short duration of pregame, any Night-and-Pregame-only QuickTopics will remain open for another 48 hours.

vote tordeck and hope he sings me a song.
Best for the doublevoter to not come out to soon though.
Vote: Vaimes
Whatcando?
Vote Rhand
Not a random vote.
why not just ask in thread, rhand?
What is the point of this post?
Not random either.
I want to see tomsloger answer my question.
Please extrapolate. Do you go into every game thread and make similar statements? Why did you feel compelled to do so in this one?
Was this vote due to his not asking in-thread about the extra vote or for another reason?
but no, i dont think ive made a similar statement before. it certainly seems worth answering instead of just voting the person who asked about it...
@Citric: I asked it privatley for the same reason: I didn't want to open that topic. But then Tom did.
vote: pengo
Using a colon feels weird..
Unvote
Any town power that wants me to confirm them when they claim should target me toNight!
Except for the Vig, if there is one. Do your thing, bro.

The only reason for that post is what I told you: the topic was opened and I didn't want a noob (of which we apparently don't have any) to claim the ability out of the blue.
You're accusing me of what Tom is doing.
NotVoxxicus could be from another subforum afaik.
im still not sure why you asked privately. im not seeing the benefit.
Kill it with fire.

Vote: NotVoxxicus
There can only be one!
I'll actually read the previous posts tomorrow.
Like I said, I can't decide whether or not this part is a tell. And I'm not holding this against you, for that reason.
@Iso:
I'm pretty sure Rhand is the better of the 2 votes. Especially based on this post by Tom:
He seems genuinely confused in that latter bit, and not in a scum way.
Admittedly though, I'm not positive. They might both be scum! But Rhand is infinitely more capable here.
Also..
This post comes across really poorly to me. Like I can literally feel waves of a shark circling his prey when I read it. Is it really just me? Come on, Iso. Work with me here.
@Mod:
i think im just going to assume voxxicus and notvoxxicus are on different sides and figure out which is scummier.
lol what?

@chris i like to think of myself as more of a lazy ravenclaw, but hufflepuff is probably more accurate.
@rhand i meant its not going to help you with what you were doing, which is (i assume) making cyan think youre town.

I fully disagree with this assessment of this post. I thought he sounded much more sure of himself in his wording of it than someone would if they were scum. I didn't like one of Tom's early posts, but I've liked his more recent posts here.
