It's not too difficult. I once had 13 games active at once across three separate sites. That was pretty taxing. It's a bit playstyle/real life dependent though.
I think I was in 3 games and hosting at one point. And in 5 games at another point. If you don't have much going on in real life it's fairly easy, but if you're busy (or if Curse won't let you post from your phone) it gets difficult. I've been busier lately so I've stuck to 2 games, and by the time my Normal comes up to host I'll likely only be playing in one or zero.
I dropped off the face of the earth a while back, largely due to RL stress overload, but I've been getting the bug again lately and I think I'm done trying to resist it.

In unrelated news: I'm still probably awful, and Cyan still probably thinks I'm scum
KoolKoal: Feel free to take this with a grain of salt since self meta isn't particularly helpful, but I think I get scumread mostly for style over substance, but also for a certain lack of substance over style. It's not so much what I AM posting most of the time (though sometimes that can seem bad) but what I'm NOT posting. I've been told I come to non-obvious conclusions a lot, so when I post, quite a bit of the time there's jumps in logic that people can't follow and they think that's scummy. I get that accusation about a lot of questions I ask specifically. People call them "busy work" when the questions are legit etc.
As far as things to ignore, I can't think of anything. I would suggest you focus less on what I'm doing and more on how I'm doing it. That's probably more likely to be accurate. Like I've just said, what I do tends to come off a little weird, but if you look for how I do it, mindset comes into play and maybe you figure out something useful.

I'm torn on this. I generally dislike rules (ironic, I know), and would suggest that mods be wary of players who do this. But seeing as replacing can actively hurt games (as I've seen games sit with a need for a replacement for a long time), it's one of those things that feels acceptable applying a penalty to.

Personally, if somebody did that to me as a host, I wouldn't allow them in any of my future games. (To clarify, if somebody replaces out of my game for legitimate reasons that are then resolved, I'm not going to complain if they hop back into another game. But if they replace out of my game so that they can play in a different one, then we have an issue.)
If this ever actually happens, the host could recommend the player for probation (if he or she felt like being publicly vindictive).
Question 1: How much of a hindrance is the curse software in practice?

I got in a fight with the mod of a game I was in. I was attempting a different playstyle and he didn't like it. Then he went yelling around the forum screaming to have me banned, and I vanished for 3ish months before coming back as Asenion.
Edit: And on the replacing issue, I once replaced out of a game that I really wasn't enjoying. It was advertised as a mini and the flavor looked cool, but it was a Basic once I started playing and I just wasn't having fun. No offense to the mod or other players in that game, but it wasn't for me and it was showing in my play. And I did join another game a little while after that.
I will also replace out of games if modkills start happening. Maybe that makes me a bad person, but I usually lose any interest in a game once the mod is deciding who wins instead of the players.

Wait you were Dragonheart this whole time? I thought you up and left for good, which I thought was too bad. I'm glad you stuck around then.
Yeah. It tickled me that for about a year I was the "I never lie" guy, then I lied and left. I took a break and came back as the "I always lie even when it's pointless" guy.

There is no meaningful hope for improvement, because the things that make this software *****ty for mafia are just..part of the software. And the mafia community is small, bringing no menaingful traffic to the site. If 100% of mafia players just stopped logging on after today, Curse would never notice. We have no leverage. Even if Curse could somehow alter the software to make the changes we wanted, this would take their time and money, which would never be recouped.
Just because you 'get used to' something doesn't make it suck any less.
I would say that the biggest issues that I have are
A)when you preview a post, it doesn't refresh the thread. This is the single biggest issue for mafia, because your posts sometimes just get invalidated by things that have happened since you started writing that particular post.
B)Can't display enough posts per page(I will never understand this one. In the day of internet technology that we live in, it is pitiful that we can only show such a small # of posts. I should be able to view hundreds of posts at a time without constantly having to load a new page. This one in particularly bothers me because I am positive that Curse *could* change it, they just don't because they want the user to keep reloading and seeing different ads. I recognize that this is a free forum, so it is going to have ads. But forcing us to interact with them more than we reasonably need to is really *****ty.
C)Mobile browsing is, as has been stated, completely and utterly awful.
There are some other minor grievances that I have, but they're just that..minor. Ultimately, mafia just feels much more 'like a chore' on here than it did on VBulletin. And when a game gets that way for me, I always lose interest(this is why I can never play MMOs for more than a few months at a time).
Multiquoting is legitimate ass, and it's so easily fixed that it drives me nuts; all it needs is a double line return between quotes and I'd have no more issues; as it is, it's so much work to figure out where the quote ends in the tags.
It's nested quotes on steroids with added neurotoxin to me.

Blogs are also turned to crap for some reason when I tried to edit my mafia stats for the first time on Curse (check my sig). I don't understand how it's a problem when I'm using the stuff provided on the toolbar /they/ gave me to color words.
Whenever you try to do anything involving code on this site in general there is a high chance it will not turn out correctly. Things will just be missing - like spaces (this is a HUGE pain), dashes, []s, etc. Then I look back to what I wrote and it's actually there, it just doesn't show up.
Also, mobile is complete trash, previews are abominable, and load times are slow. Posts per page is an inconvenience that adds up over time, and is worse because of the slow load time.
Multiquoting and nested quoting is a disaster.
Still don't see how a big business like Curse can buy out "some dude" then downgrade the site in many ways, and net us, from what I can tell, nothing positive.
Could have kept the old site and threw up some Curse banners and it'd be great.
So curse is worse... the biggest issue I see is that there isn't a huge influx of new players (and that, for me, the site is blocked at work so I've had to change my posting habits). I have a feeling that talking so much about how the software sucks isn't helping our draw, though. I'd recommend making recommendations for improvement through the appropriate channels but, otherwise, maybe limiting the "this software sucks," chatter. I get it, not talking about it doesn't change things... but maybe given enough time there will be improvements and creating a negative atmosphere can discourage involvement/participation levels.
I really like the community on this site and I also like the aesthetics (took a twirl through MS the other day and was jealous of the diversity of their player base but didn't like the visuals at all). Like how the games feel a little more like events/things to collect here. Love the color designations for the types of games, etc. Also like that our minis are 12 instead of 13 people (and minis are my favorites).
I think I asked this before but am not sure - have we ever done any outreach/recruiting within other areas of MTGS/Curse/other sites that play mafia but don't exclusively play? I think we could benefit from some of that... the game is certainly growing as a whole throughout the internet... and the history/legacy here is too good not to push to reinvigorate, IMO.

I thought I'd share how I get around the terrible multi-quoting in case other people find it useful as well.
Basically, I pretend the multi-quote button doesn't exist. Hit the "Quote" button on the first post I want to comment on, then respond or at least hit enter twice. Scroll down to the next post I want to quote, hit the basic quote button, and it adds the post to the previous text-box for my reply without editing anything.
The one limitation with this is that it doesn't carry over to different pages, so I have to open the new page (in a separate tab just in case) and copy-paste it onto the top of the next reply window after I hit quote. I also have no idea if this would work on mobile.
Its still more work than we should really have to do, but I find it easier on my mental state to take this slow and steady approach rather than dump it all into the reply window at once and deal with a big mess.

I'll bet you wish you had a non-unglued/unhinged card that shared your first name.
Well, since this is supposed to be "theory" discussion, I'm going to throw you guys a nut to crack (I've been pondering this one really, really long).
Day X begins, and only ones left are a single mafia, a single serial killer and a single town.
SK wins if everyone is killed (including them).
You are playing as mafia. Everyone knows who is the town remaining (causing you and SK to know each other, but town doesn't know who is mafia and who is SK).
What would you do in order to have a chance of winning?

I presume I'm just a Goon and that the townie is Vanilla?
I've actually been in this situation before, and have done it a few different ways. I tried to pretend I was the last townie (which went very amusingly). As it stands, I would tell the townie, "Look, at this point, your faction is screwed - you can either help mine win or let everyone else in the game lose."
Or I might just tell the SK, "Well played," and either vote the townie, hoping that I could get away with a win somehow, or just self-vote if they busted their ass to work their way to the endgame.

Yeah, assume that you have no other relevant abilities (you can be godfather or ninja or something that doesn't matter anymore). Same applies to town also (any role that can't kill or alter kills).
Also, since I'm not sure about that "your faction is screwed", did you mean to trick them thinking that or really mean that? I guess I forgot to mention (I assumed it was the norm, but wasn't) that no-lynch is also an allowed option. One can also vote for no-lynch so that there wouldn't be anyone lynched and they would proceed to the night normally.
However, this is a situation where town should win every time assuming everyone plays optimally, and there is a slight chance for SK to win, but mafia should normally never win in this situation...

I think the situation was that I was Bulletproof scum and I convinced the SK that I was the last townie...which was hilarious.
And of course I would convince the townie that No Lynch was not an option because there is absolutely no guarantee that the last scum/SK would kill each other.

Solution: Curse should hire competent coders.
Town Win % = 75%
Mafia Win % = 75%
Overall Win % = 75%

I've actually been in this situation before, and have done it a few different ways. I tried to pretend I was the last townie (which went very amusingly). As it stands, I would tell the townie, "Look, at this point, your faction is screwed - you can either help mine win or let everyone else in the game lose."
Or I might just tell the SK, "Well played," and either vote the townie, hoping that I could get away with a win somehow, or just self-vote if they busted their ass to work their way to the endgame.

And of course I would convince the townie that No Lynch was not an option because there is absolutely no guarantee that the last scum/SK would kill each other.
