I know he was spoiled early so the excitement for him is kind of over shadowed by the actual new Commanders, but I haven't seen but 2 deck lists for him.
Whats the reason no one seems to be excited about this guy? Is he just overshadowed by The Mimeoplasm? Is he too slow? or is Ghave, Guru of Spores the better of the 2 so far?
just curious.
edit: This was supposed to be in general discussion, please move it if you feel necessary.
his ability is not all that amazing, if you are going to abuse him you are going to want to fill the graveyard, and in that case, plasm is better
I agree Mimeoplasm is just a better card, but I just can't think of why Wizards would print 2 cards for a release where one is completely overshadowed by the other, out of the 2 I would also choose Mimeo, but there has got to be something useful with him lol.
I really don't see how the Mimeoplasm overshadows Karador, Ghost Chieftain. They reward a totally different playstyle.
Mimeoplasm is more of a reanimator deck. while Karador rewards a focus on toolboxing with a collection of smaller utility creatures and grinding out the attrition win.
I'm not saying The Mimeoplasm isnt a stronger general (it probably is), but I think the main difference is that the ways to abuse The Mimeoplasm are obvious while Karador is a much more subtle anchor for deckbuilding, and the Majority of decklists coming out in the last few days are lists slapped together in the heat of inspiration rather than the carefully tuned lists that Karador demands.

This makes more sense, I bought Counter Punch (although its voted the weakest) basically for a few cards in it I don't have/wanted and thought Karador would be fun to build around.
So maybe something dredge esque for Karador? spells with flashback in case you dump them into the graveyard, creatures that have good ETB/LTB abilities to abuse like Bone Shredder, Mesmeric Fiend? the only problem I see is Karadors lack of evasion, although you should be able to recur creatures and spells with enough abilities to keep his path clear.
I guess its time to get to work, I am just pretty bad at starting a deck from the ground up. The deck doesnt need to win all the time, thats what Skithiryx is for - something a bit more on the fun, low key side so people will actually play against me.
A karador deck gets murdered by bojuka bomb/nihil spellbomb/tormod's crypt/relic of progenitus, and these cards or similar ones are ubiquitous in any half-decent EDH group.
At least that's why I personally won't be building Karador.

any deck that relies on the graveyard is going to have problems with those cards Hermit Druid, The Mimeoplasm, etc ... you just need to find ways deal with whats going on, Krosan grip answers 3 of those cards, bojuka bog is a bit more difficult to handle since its a land, but meh you can't win em all right? and I don't see people locally taking up 4 to 5 slots for graveyard hate.
