Already pondering how I can potentially incorporate this into 8Rack lol. But I view it as an early kill or safeguard hand check before dropping something useful. The last mode I'm not sure how overly useful it would be.
This feels kindof similar to Firestorm. A card that can deal with important threats even if you don't have the ability to take advantage of the discard, but if you can take advantage of the discard then the card is fantastic. Imagine killing Mom, making them discard swords / path and discarding griselbrand with this on turn 2 in a reanimator deck.
Situationally this feels like it can be very strong, but I'm not sure how often those situations will come up, and it's not particularly good at any one thing. Odd little card, don't really know what to make of it.
I'm not a huge fan. -2/-2 is not enough to take down a lot of serious threats and I feel like against a lot of decks the Duress variant effect will whiff most of the time. I don't want to spend 2 cards to kill an x/2 and drain 2 life. If it was -3/-3 and a full Duress I'd be much more interested.
I want to like playable discard outlets, but I'm not sure if I like this one. One good thing going for it is that it will seldom be dead - the decks that pack little to no creatures will have plenty of instants and sorceries and vice versa.

If it was full duress or -3/-3 this card would be an instant include for me. As it is I like it plenty. Flexible cheap cards are great and having the option for multiple effects when you need it or have extra garbage (Or gods forbid some thing that can take advantage of the discard) it is amazing. It reminds me a lot of Kolaghan's command. Not as powerful effects but it is only a 2 mana splashable spell. I personally have found that inquisition is really pulling it's weight in my cube and cute it but none of the other cheap discard tempted me. This one I like.
This is a useful discard outlet for Reanimator: kill a dork, make them discard their StP / Wrath and you for your fattie in the bin. I can see this also being fun to use in a Draw 7 burn deck, lol.
Unless I have something better to test in this set (cough LILIANA cough), I may test this over Contagion at 540.
If the discard was noncreature nonland, I'd be excited. But with the restriction to just instant/sorcery, I think I'll pass. I'd snap play it if I could choose the same mode multiple times.
Too bad, the modes are just a little too underpowered for this to be relevant for cube I think. Discard as escalate cost is interesting but the effects have to be worthwhile.
Hello guys, have tried Collective Brutality? It's been really good here since its testing inclusion, about two months ago.
It helps against control and aggro decks, discarding counterspell, burn and killing a creature. It's excellent in reanimator decks that need this flexibility. We're relly convinced about this card!
Any other experience?
Yep. Tested it a couple months ago and passed with flying colours.
Also been playing it a ton in the modo cube and it hasn't disappointed.
In my eyes It's a staple, and doubt I'll cut it for years.
incredible reanimator enabler, playable in black Agro (value in discard) and playable in control as an awsome hedge against red Agro.
I don't think there's a single archetype I would maindeck oona's prowler over it, and I like oonas prowler a fair bit.
Edit: recurring nightmare focused decks exception
Yeah, I also ran it multiple times in the 2016 MTGO Vintage Cube and it was surprisely super strong. Versatility makes all the difference. It's also randomly good with Delve, Delirium and cards that care about graveyard content (Tarmogoyf, Snapcaster Mage, Deathrite Shaman, etc.).
Hmm the chatter in this thread is making me want to add it to my 720. I would be interested to hear more opinions if anyone has them. Did anyone try this and strongly dislike it?
I think the abilities are pretty lackluster for the card disadvantage outside of a deck that really capitalizes on putting cards in your graveyard (e.g. reanimator/delve). Good card to be sure, but not something I would slot into my 450 unpowered.
This card doesn't represent card disadvantage if it's well use. First two mode are 1 for 1 while the last one is a kill or a stay alive spell. Nothing more nothing less.
Ya, but the discard mode can miss. So in order to maintain card parity, you need to know the discard will hit, and have a creature to kill with it too. I think it's a good card, and I may be bringing it back for some extended testing, but it can certainly be underwhelming/disappointing when you can't turn the discard payment into an advantage (reanimator/stax/etc).
I think you have absolutly no cube experience with the card to say that. And since when Profane Command is a reanimation spell? Paying 8 to 10 mana to reanimate your fatty seems harsh...
There is a bunch of recursive crap that seems good with Collective Brutality outside of hard reanimator. I have no experience with the card yet, but I may add it for this weekend's Cube festivities.
Limited testing so far, but I generally agree with the sentiment of only playable in decks that want the discard. 2 mana for a -2/-2 at sorcery speed is not only a poor rate but irrelevant against parts of the field and the discard misses more often than not. I hope I'll change my mind with more testing, but so far it is disappointing.
I think this is really good I don't know if discard a card too heavy a cost in cube, but a removal and dicard mode combine can be neat.

Yeah, unless the card specifically says you can choose the same mode more than once a la the confluences, you can't.
