I think you'll get a better idea of what uncommons are needed and unneeded once the commons are done. I only super agree with Angelic Benediction and Knight of Glory. Glimmerpoint Stag could be Flickerwisp, depending on the common curve. I guess Path of Exile also probably always stays in as a Modern reprint.
Yeah, I know commons should come first, but I'm having trouble balancing the list amongst archetypes. P:
And my logic for Glimmerpoint over Flickerwisp is that a lot of key creatures so far have x/1 stats - I wanted to include something with a bit more sticking power. My draft for the white commons is crowded already at the 3 CMC slot, anyways. Champion and Rally are included to push the humans archetype a bit more, and Wall is just a good flicker target that's worth a few bucks right now.

As far as blink goes Ghostly Flicker is a lot of bang for your buck, and I'm personally using Familiar's Ruse as the common counterspell since it's good with most blink targets.

Here are my thoughts on the blue spread, combining bits and pieces from what others have suggested. I definitely think this is going to be the hardest batch of commons to nail down, because so many of the archetypes don't intersect well.

The cutoff for MM2015 is M12. I thought we were 2 years forward?
MMA to MM2 included two new blocks (Scars and Zendikar) and one new core set (MM12), so by that logic, we're including the two newest blocks and one newest core set after that point - Innistrad, RTR and M13. Unless, of course, I'm missing something critical and Wizards was determining new cards by year and not by block.

MM1 actually went up to Alara Reborn, so MM2 added M10 and M12. However, the MM card pools are defined from 8th edition up through some particular set, so I would say that M11 was in the card pool and it just so happened not to get any cards from it chosen (although Primetime could pretty reasonably be considered from M11). Partially I think this was because M11's mechanic, scry, was left out entirely.
More importantly, MM1 was sort of an outlier, since they could cleanly stop right before any of the core sets. Nowadays core sets are considered to be part of a "pseuo-block" with the expert block which precedes them (so Zendikar pairs with M11, and Scars pairs with M12). I'm quite confident Wizards would consider M14 part of the pool for any MM which gets RTR block.
Edit: As another note, it seems fairly clear that Coldsnap was "in the MM2 card pool." Certainly MM1 was, thanks to Adarkar Valkyrie. But the only Colsnap cards in MM2 are Flashfreeze, Deathmark, and Karplusan Strider, and if we want to count those as Coldsnap cards Primeval Titan would then be an M11 card.

Hmmm, anyone else have any thoughts on this? It would make sense the more I think of it, as MM4 would then add two "mega blocks" of Theros/M15 and Khans/Origins, but we'd then have to reconsider a lot of what was already established about our MM3 so far. I know we stopped considering slivers only because M14 wasn't in our initial spread. We'd also have to look into rejiggering the rares and mythics - I know Archangel of Thune would make a good inclusion. Green commons/uncommons would also be up in the air again, although I don't know if there's anything strong enough from M14 to include.
But I'd like to hear others' thoughts on this, of course. (:
EDIT: I actually got to thinking, and including M14 shouldn't be too tricky if we don't want to shuffle around the archetypes. This is mainly because the set's power level is so low that there aren't too many cards worth reprinting. I inventoried the set on my commute home, and here are what I think could go in (all at printed rarities):

I think lifegain has the same problem as lifegain: you need a way to convert lifegain into a wincon. does have more ways of doing it than does, and although I'm attached to auras it does overlap on exalted a bit, so I can see that change happening. We would need to rework the commons, though.
And I'll make the executive decision to expand the playing field to M14. We don't lose anything by adding it in, anyways.

Well, with scry being evergreen, a standard reprint of Serum Visions is now very feasible. Scry cards in general loose some reprint need because they can now potentially be reprinted in any set. I don't know whether it's worth using scry here when serum visions is almost all of the reason to do so now that reprinting serum visions is so much easier to do. Maybe, but I am leaning a little towards no.
Figured I'd post my own finalized list of how I envision this set turning out. Exporting from MSE can be a little glitchy, but I'll fix anything if people notice errors. You might notice that the set is overloaded with money cards - I anticipate Wizards moving to more aggressively reprint such cards, hence their frequency. Is SDT's included because you think it could be unbanned by then?
There are two complementary reasons behind SDT's inclusion. The first is that there's a reasonable chance it gets unbanned by the time MM3 comes around. It is a strong card, but I'd rather see Counterbalance banned since I believe SDT allows for more interesting deckbuilding decisions without being as abusive in combination with CB. The second reason is that Modern Masters sets are also a good way to print cards which see play in "true" eternal formats that are in short supply and provide some support to those formats (Aside - a "Legacy Masters" set would be interesting). SDT fits in that category nicely. Also, with the inclusion of a landfall theme and Oracle of Mul Daya, I'll admit the cube drafter in me really wanted the pipe-dream of getting SDT+Oracle online.

Eternal Masters went from $300+ and is now on tcg for less than $200. Could MM17 follow this trend? With all of the amazing reprints and a lot of value found in the rare/uncommon slots, could this product sell out? I wonder if it might follow the trend of Khans of Tarkir. Having fetchlands in the set will help it to retain value. Khans is the only recent standard set whose booster box price has started to go up after rotation.
TCG player prices have already gone from $185 shipped to $215 shipped in a few days. Will this trend continue? Or will a larger print run (and no Modern GP opening thousands of packs) ensure there is plenty of Modern Masters to go around below MSRP even months from now.

You seem to be misled, somehow. This is a custom set.
Are you saying that this is a thread to a new, unlicensed, made up set? If so, the thread title is extremely misleading since there is an actual MM 2017. Also, if this is just discussion for a cube type of drafting, why does the original post talk about a print run size?
Yeah, I know commons should come first, but I'm having trouble balancing the list amongst archetypes. P:
And my logic for Glimmerpoint over Flickerwisp is that a lot of key creatures so far have x/1 stats - I wanted to include something with a bit more sticking power. My draft for the white commons is crowded already at the 3 CMC slot, anyways. Champion and Rally are included to push the humans archetype a bit more, and Wall is just a good flicker target that's worth a few bucks right now.
If so I think Deranged Assistant and Oona's Grace are a must, with Silent Departure and Dream Twist also being solid.
As far as blink goes Ghostly Flicker is a lot of bang for your buck, and I'm personally using Familiar's Ruse as the common counterspell since it's good with most blink targets.

Here are my thoughts on the blue spread, combining bits and pieces from what others have suggested. I definitely think this is going to be the hardest batch of commons to nail down, because so many of the archetypes don't intersect well.

MMA to MM2 included two new blocks (Scars and Zendikar) and one new core set (MM12), so by that logic, we're including the two newest blocks and one newest core set after that point - Innistrad, RTR and M13. Unless, of course, I'm missing something critical and Wizards was determining new cards by year and not by block.
More importantly, MM1 was sort of an outlier, since they could cleanly stop right before any of the core sets. Nowadays core sets are considered to be part of a "pseuo-block" with the expert block which precedes them (so Zendikar pairs with M11, and Scars pairs with M12). I'm quite confident Wizards would consider M14 part of the pool for any MM which gets RTR block.
Edit: As another note, it seems fairly clear that Coldsnap was "in the MM2 card pool." Certainly MM1 was, thanks to Adarkar Valkyrie. But the only Colsnap cards in MM2 are Flashfreeze, Deathmark, and Karplusan Strider, and if we want to count those as Coldsnap cards Primeval Titan would then be an M11 card.

Hmmm, anyone else have any thoughts on this? It would make sense the more I think of it, as MM4 would then add two "mega blocks" of Theros/M15 and Khans/Origins, but we'd then have to reconsider a lot of what was already established about our MM3 so far. I know we stopped considering slivers only because M14 wasn't in our initial spread. We'd also have to look into rejiggering the rares and mythics - I know Archangel of Thune would make a good inclusion. Green commons/uncommons would also be up in the air again, although I don't know if there's anything strong enough from M14 to include.
But I'd like to hear others' thoughts on this, of course. (:
EDIT: I actually got to thinking, and including M14 shouldn't be too tricky if we don't want to shuffle around the archetypes. This is mainly because the set's power level is so low that there aren't too many cards worth reprinting. I inventoried the set on my commute home, and here are what I think could go in (all at printed rarities):
- Corpse Hauler
- Gnawing Zombie
- Young Pyromancer
- Molten Birth
- Woodborn Behemoth (to replace Woodcrasher Baloth in the current draft)
- Ajani's Chosen (to replace ???)
- Scavenging Ooze (to replace ???)

Accord and Wurm probably aren't gonna make it in if we're not doing lifegain anymore (although those and Path of Bravery at uncommon make an increasingly-compelling case), and Reap was already printed in Innistrad so it's not new. Dead's a nice find, though, and would support well.
I think we should put M14 in. It's not like we have to make too many cuts too late in the game now. (:
I think lifegain has the same problem as lifegain: you need a way to convert lifegain into a wincon. does have more ways of doing it than does, and although I'm attached to auras it does overlap on exalted a bit, so I can see that change happening. We would need to rework the commons, though.
And I'll make the executive decision to expand the playing field to M14. We don't lose anything by adding it in, anyways.

This leads to my next question: Will the price of a box eventually drop after all of the hype? I can get a box for $215 including tax at my local store. Nearly every Masters set has fallen below the first pre-order prices at the time of release. Will this set follow the same trend?
Eternal Masters went from $300+ and is now on tcg for less than $200. Could MM17 follow this trend? With all of the amazing reprints and a lot of value found in the rare/uncommon slots, could this product sell out? I wonder if it might follow the trend of Khans of Tarkir. Having fetchlands in the set will help it to retain value. Khans is the only recent standard set whose booster box price has started to go up after rotation.
TCG player prices have already gone from $185 shipped to $215 shipped in a few days. Will this trend continue? Or will a larger print run (and no Modern GP opening thousands of packs) ensure there is plenty of Modern Masters to go around below MSRP even months from now.
