This is a small NGE-themed set that has been a labor of love of mine for the past few months. It might not be playable (for a number of reasons), but that's why I'm posting it here... for critique!
I tried my best to be in-line with Evangelion flavor while simultaneously keeping most of the cards at a realistic power level. And to be honest, I don't think I really succeeded here. 9 times out of 10, whenever I was faced with the dilemma of choosing flavor vs mechanics, flavor won. That, combined with the fact that this was my first inexperienced stab at card creation of a game I've been playing for less than a year, along with the fact that I occasionally had momentary lapses of sanity where I knowingly created ridiculous cards just for fun, then later stubbornly refused to remove or revise them. Its main saving grace I feel is the effort put into some of the cards flavor-wise, though there are a good number of cards that have ample room for flavor text but lack any, which I'll try to fix over time. And naturally, if you're not familiar with the source material, most of it will fly right over your head... though there is a tiny amount of non-Eva flavor in the set as well.
The theme of the set, decided early on in its production, was "Exile matters" (not that it doesn't normally)... however, despite numerous cards using and abusing the exile zone, I think that overall I didn't handle this theme as well as it could've been.
Anyway, keywords. A lot of keywords appear in this set. Most of them are actual keywords, but there are a few that are of my own making. I'll go ahead and define them here so that you can get familiar with them, as all of the cards featuring them may not necessarily have reminder text:
Detector X -- Whenever a creature with power greater than or equal to this creature enters the battlefield under an opponent's control, exile it and put X +1/+1 counters on this creature.
Baka X -- Whenever this creature blocks, put X baka counters on it. If it has a number of baka counters on it equal to or greater than its toughness, it can't block.)
Tsundere X -- Whenever any player casts a spell, put X tsundere counter on this creature. For each tsundere counter on this creature, he/she/it is just that much more of a b****. (AKA does basically nothing unless you have a card that utilizes tsundere counters in some way)
Backfire X -- Whenever this creature attacks, its controller sacrifices X permanents. (Reverse Annhiliator, essentially)

This is a small NGE-themed set that has been a labor of love of mine for the past few months. It might not be playable (for a number of reasons), but that's why I'm posting it here... for critique!
I tried my best to be in-line with Evangelion flavor while simultaneously keeping most of the cards at a realistic power level. And to be honest, I don't think I really succeeded here. 9 times out of 10, whenever I was faced with the dilemma of choosing flavor vs mechanics, flavor won. That, combined with the fact that this was my first inexperienced stab at card creation of a game I've been playing for less than a year, along with the fact that I occasionally had momentary lapses of sanity where I knowingly created ridiculous cards just for fun, then later stubbornly refused to remove or revise them. Its main saving grace I feel is the effort put into some of the cards flavor-wise, though there are a good number of cards that have ample room for flavor text but lack any, which I'll try to fix over time. And naturally, if you're not familiar with the source material, most of it will fly right over your head... though there is a tiny amount of non-Eva flavor in the set as well.
The theme of the set, decided early on in its production, was "Exile matters" (not that it doesn't normally)... however, despite numerous cards using and abusing the exile zone, I think that overall I didn't handle this theme as well as it could've been.
Anyway, keywords. A lot of keywords appear in this set. Most of them are actual keywords, but there are a few that are of my own making. I'll go ahead and define them here so that you can get familiar with them, as all of the cards featuring them may not necessarily have reminder text:
Detector X -- Whenever a creature with power greater than or equal to this creature enters the battlefield under an opponent's control, exile it and put X +1/+1 counters on this creature.
Baka X -- Whenever this creature blocks, put X baka counters on it. If it has a number of baka counters on it equal to or greater than its toughness, it can't block.)
Tsundere X -- Whenever any player casts a spell, put X tsundere counter on this creature. For each tsundere counter on this creature, he/she/it is just that much more of a b****. (AKA does basically nothing unless you have a card that utilizes tsundere counters in some way)
Backfire X -- Whenever this creature attacks, its controller sacrifices X permanents. (Reverse Annhiliator, essentially)
