I don't think Swallow actually functions as worded. It doesn't grant you the ability to sacrifice, only says that for each one that you are able to sacrifice during the casting reduces the cost.

Reminder text isn't necessarily rules text: Convoke uses the same reminder text, except for replacing sacrifice with tap. The rules text is "As an additional cost to cast this spell, you may sacrifice any number of creatures. Each creature sacrificed this way reduces the cost to cast this spell by or by one mana of any of that creature’s colors."
Man, I really like the look of this. What are some of the major draft archetypes you see a lot of?
Thank you :). I have a section in the .pdf on limited archetypes. We've seen most of them already in our drafts, but the most frequent archetypes are:
Wtf, I don't know what I'm doing, I guess I take this card.
Blue/green or green/black ramp.
Black/red aggro.
Speaking of which, I have a few more changes from our last draft:
Fish Charmer :3mana::symw:
Creature — Mermaid Bard (C)
Melody :1mana::symw: (You may tap this to reduce the cost of a creature spell you cast by :1mana::symw:. This doesn’t untap during your untap steps for as long as you control the creature it becomes.) “Every being has its own song.”
3/2
//+1 power, -1 melody. Weird for white to get the highest melody value.
Excessive Caution
Enchantment — Aura (C)
Enchant creature
Enchanted creature can’t block unless its controller pays 2.
Enchanted creature can’t attack unless its controller pays 8. “I hear murlocs. Everyone seek cover!”
//Replaces Hideaway, the pseudo-Guard Duty. Now has some offensive use.
Brood of Nolgul :7mana::symu::symu:
Creature — Kraken (U)
Swallow (Each creature you sacrifice while casting this spell reduces its cost by or one mana of that creature’s color.)
When Brood of Nolgul enters the battlefield or attacks, tap up to three target creatures. Those creatures don’t untap during their controller’s next untap steps.
8/9
//Although this guy was fine in most situations, if you know you will cast it at some point, you can play in a way that you'll always kill the opponent. That's a problem if you have ways to tutor it.
Pearlreef Sentinel :3mana::symu:
Creature — Jellyfish (C)
Defender
When Pearlreef Sentinel enters the battlefield, look at the top five cards of your library. You may reveal an instant or sorcery card from among them and put it into your hand. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in any order.
1/4
//Looks at one more card.
Bloodfin :4mana::symr::symr:
Legendary Creature — Fish (M)
Double strike, haste
Bloodlust 1 (Whenever this creature deals combat damage, put one +1/+1 counter on it.)
At the beginning of your end step, return Bloodfin to its owner’s hand unless you remove two +1/+1 counters from it. The bane of the southern seas.
3/5
//Old version did damage to you. Wasn't well received that it could kill yourself.
Primordial Pillar :3mana::symg::symg:
Creature — Coral Wall (M)
Defender
When Primordial Pillar enters the battlefield, exile the bottom six cards of your library face down.
You may look at cards exiled with Primordial Pillar. 1G, T: You may turn a permanent card exiled with Primordial Pillar face up. Any opponent may have you put that card onto the battlefield. If no player does, put it into your graveyard and any number of other permanent cards exiled with Primordial Pillar onto the battlefield.
0/6
//Now has an activation cost.
Blazing Trident
Artifact — Equipment (U)
Equipped creature gets +3/+1 and has intimidate.
Equip (:5mana:: Attach to target creature you control. Equip only as a sorcery.) The naga’s tridents aren’t weapons of war, but weapons of terror.
//Costs more. It's too good.
I'll also look into changing the Duet mechanic a bit.
were do you find your art/artists there any really talented artist you can "recommend" (is thst the right word?)
gozmit97
I credited all artists at the bottom of each card with either their homepage (usually deviantart.com) or with their full name. You should be able to find most of them by googling "Artist Name Art" or something like that.
A few artists from whom I used many artworks:
Nicole Cardiff
Aaron Lovett
Steve Argyle
Patrik Hjelm

Been out of the loop for awhile - almost didn't come back at all when cockatrice went under - but now that I'm poking my head in again, anything you need on this set? Playtesting needs, feedback needs, etc?
Well, I'm currently working on the second set. You can find it here. I have revamped it a lot lately, I talk about it a bit here. I haven't posted a thread about it yet since there's still much in flux, but I should do that soon when I have time.
As for this set, there's nothing much more to do, except make the last changes to some of the cards that I'm not 100% happy with yet (white).
That with Cockatrice sucks of course, but there's still MWS so it's not too bad? Similarly, if MWS went down, I'd say: "Well, ok, I'll play Cockatrice then. I hated that program anyway :tongue:."
Good to have you back though. But you know, there are numbers between 100 and 0 :tongue:.
Im new to MTG Salvation Forums, but I have been playing magic for around a year.
I'm very impressed by the amount of complexity and flavor the set has, this is a set i would like to draft and play with my friends. One thing i noticed is that there isnt a deepkin lord, maybe the Deepkin Sage is one but im not too sure. And Xaelas looks so OP with that +1. Everything else is very good, from these plesiosaurs, (Some of them are based on real extinct sea monsters!!) to the expanding of level up and the duet mechanic (maybe its a little bit too narrow, but it makes an interesting board).
Now, I've seen the Cockatrice patch for Iamur, and i've read the notes about it, but now i would like to now if there was any way to draft it, or play constructed with it. Because i don't think there would be a lot of people who know of this project.
To end this, I want to congratulate the people who worked in this, even the "Planeswalker's Guide to Iamur" looks great!!.
drafting the set will be hard. I've done that only with physical cards yet. You can, however, create booster packs with Magic Set Editor and play sealed with them on Magic Workstation. You can also play constructed on Magic Workstation very easily. I have no up-to-date cockatrice patch right now, but I'll see what I can do.
Deepkin Lord: I've wanted to revisit the lord cycle again and make some changes as I'm not 100% happy with them, but the idea was that the deepkin don't get a lord as they're scattered, and don't have a common bond like the others. Xaelas: I've actually never got to play with him, because he keeps avoiding our draft boosters. You could be right, he's not my favorite planeswaker I ever made.
Thanks for stopping by and welcome to the forum :).
Thanks for the reply. In this right moment im trying to put the set on Forge, and i've got most of white commons and uncommons. Im no programmer, but I've learned some at college. By the way if you dont know whats Forge, its a great program wich enforces magic rules, Check it out at http://www.slightlymagic.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=26
Enough advertising, my first worry is the possibilty of melody not being programmed, I dont think there is yet a way to track a spell that becomes a permanent only for the mana spent on it.
It is awesome, but sadly its still limited to play with the AI.
For now, because there are people working on PvP right now.
I was thinking on getting held on the forge forums to create a Iamur patch or something like that.
Big list of changes! I'll update everything over the next days!
.pdf file: Updated Text versions: Updated .mse file: Updated MWS files: Not yet updated
List of changes:
Cards have been reworded to reflect the M14 changes to the wording for "Indestructible." This change effects: Guardian Light, Tideguard Colossus, Limeshell Ammonite, Murloc Totemancer, The Abyssal City
Swallow and melody have been reworded to reflect the M14 changes to the wording for "Convoke" and similar abilities. Swallow's updated reminder text is (Each creature you sacrifice while casting this spell pays for or one mana of that creature’s color.) and melody's updated reminder text is (While casting a creature spell, you may tap this to pay for {mana}. This doesn’t untap during your untap steps for as long as you control that creature.). This change effects: Eversong Scallop, Fish Charmer, Brood of Nolgul, Deephollow Leviathan, Kraken's Grasp, Strangle, Cyclopean Horror, Kraken's Embrace, Murloc Goliath, Ravenous Maw, Bubbling Magma, Child of Sharks, Dragon of the Sea, Gluttony, Chorus of the Garden, Coralia Basscaller, Grazing Plesodons, Halls of Beguiling Tunes, Kelpvale Mosa, Stranglekelp Druid, Wurm of the Abyss, Coralskin Maiden, Sleepwatcher of Kalimaras, The Abyssal City, Melodious Pearl, Singing Cliffs
Mermaid creature type has been replaced with Nixie. This change effects: Fish Charmer, Master of Pearlcraft, Patron of the Sea, Ranger of Miracle Deeps, Seahorse Rider, Shepherd of Coralia, Apprentice Sharktamer, Chorus of the Garden, Coralia Basscaller, Outcast of Lua Atoll, Stranglekelp Mermaid, Emerien Songwriter, Kayisha, the Land-dweller, Coralskin Maiden.
Flavor texts and names refering to mermaids now refer to nixies. This change effects: Follow the Light, Goldshimmer Seahorse, Serene Gardens, Abyssal Bolt, Boxing Squid, Naturalize, Serpent Hatchling, Woodcrusher Eel, Coralskin Maiden, Eye of Iamur, Nixie Chess
The multicolor lord cycle has been streamlined a bit. Everyone of those creatures now has "Other {type} creatures you control get +1/+1 and have {ability}." Deepkin Sage is the exception.
Tidesprite the Seer: The ability has been changed to only allow instants and sorceries you control to be copied.
Eye of Iamur: Now a rare instead of a mythic rare.
Irrevocable Destroyer: Now a mythic rare instead of a rare.
Goldshimmer Seahorse: Now a 2/2 instead of a 1/2 and costs :2mana::symw: instead of :1mana::symw:.
Admiral's Effigy: Now has ":1mana:, :symtap:: Add two mana of any one color to your mana pool." and no other abilities.
Statues of Emerien: Removed.
Outcast of Lua Atoll: Now levels to ultimate at Level 3, down from Level 4.
Anemone Gobbler: The zoologic error of this being a Fish has been fixed.
New card:
Statues of Emerien4
Artifact Creature - Wall (C)
Defender
3/4
New card:
Vastide Whale4W
Creature - Whale (C)
When Vastide Whale enters the battlefield, return a creature you control to its owner’s hand.

Just wanted to say that your set looks really nice! I think all the mechanics for your set are very flavorful and seem to fit the battlecruiser style you're going for. The way you made multicolored fish tokens to use as both fodder for swallow and to block things with intimidate is particularly elegant, in my opinion.
As a small critique, I think I found a couple typos in the pdf:
Descend into Oblivion - You're missing a period at the end of the effect. Haunted Shipwrack - Should it be Shipwreck instead?
-----
I may not get to play your set as-is anytime soon, but your cards have definitely given me some inspiration for a small (90 card) custom expansion I'm working on for my peasant cube.
I know you've credited the artists you've used in your cards, but do you have any advice on the best way to search for art? Creatures seem to be the easiest thing to find, but spells seem to be a bit harder due to their more ephemeral nature. Any tips you have on keywords or search phrases would be appreciated.
I fixed the typos you mentioned. "wrack" is german for "wreck," so that must be where that error came from :Psyduck:.
My advice on searching for art is to be endurant and invest a lot of time if you want to get it right. Keep your search phrases to very generic things like "wizard", "goblin" or "Mayan" (if you're doing a Mayan themed set for example), and accumulate a collection you can draw your art from consisting of everything you think you might use eventually (mark those where you have to ask for authorization). If you come across an artwork during your goblin search, where the goblin blows himself up, you can use that later as an artwork for a red spell.
Make sure the art style across the cards is coherent. This is almost more important than what exactly is shown on the art I think. Don't mix 3D art or photo manipulations with drawings, for example.
I also posted a list of great artists a few posts earlier.
After briefly skimming through some of your cards, mechanics, etc I have to say I'm very impressed with what you've created. You're making me want to get back into working on custom magic sets. I used to do it a lot years ago but I still had a lot to learn back then. I feel like I could create something pretty awesome and seeing what you've done is really inspiring. I'd really love to draft your set. Someone needs to write a program that lets you draft custom sets.
Side note: One thing I noticed in your text spoiler is that on the card Eye of Iamur it says "Shuffle Eye of Kayisha and your graveyard into your library." I'm pretty sure this is a typo. Seems like you probably had a name change at some point and forgot to update the self reference in the text. Just letting you know cause I know how easy it is to slip up and have these kinds of mistakes floating around.
I'd just like to say, I really like your set design here. The thing I most enjoy is that the "big smashy things" color is blue/black instead of green now which I find exciting for limited. I also may or may not have an undying love for Battle Hymn which is not something I expected to see as a reprint here.
One question I do have is this; how have you done your sealed testing? I haven't found a way online to make mock-packs for a custom set outside of Taebl, and I've gotta figure out how to fix my roommate's computer to get that working for him.
I mainly played the set with printed cards. You can generate random packs with Magic Set Editor, but you'll have to use another program to play (Magic Workstation, Cockatrice). You should find more discussion about those topics on the previous pages of this thread, I think.
The thing I most enjoy is that the "big smashy things" color is blue/black instead of green now which I find exciting for limited.
Blue and black both get a few giant things with power 8 because of the theme, but green also has very expensive, powerful creatures. My main concern was that if green gets both the best ramp, and the best fatties, it will be clearly above all other colors, as it was in Rise of the Eldrazi.
I actually got started on a set like this back in 2009 for the GDS2. I even used Bloodthirst (instead of Bloodlust) and Level Up as some of my mechanics (I also used Dash, before it was a thing, and called it Blitz). Very cool, glad to see something similar to my idea fully realized. My races were: Merfolk (W), Cephalids (U), Homarids (B), something I made up that were supposed to be goblin/shark things for Red, and I think mainly Serpents/Leviathans for Green; there was some color bleed of course but those were primary.
Anyway, no particular reason for saying all that. Good job.
Edit PS: Instructor of the Meek is so cool. I love everything about that card.

I don't like the colour-evasion theme at all. Intimidate is a bad mechanic. The problem is that reduces skill in games. In one game you play against a deck that enables all your creatures to just attack away, but in the next you can't do that all. It's not good design to care too much about what your opponent does, players should have control over cards more than their opponent, little own their choice of deck. A sizable amount of opponent-hating cars can still be fine, but this is too much, especially given how black and white the hate is. If look at recent sets, there is very little intimidate, why? Because R&D are already looking for replacements, same with landwalk and regenerate.

Dude, look at the post date. This set is nearly three years old.
Yes, I know. I should have said that this was more of a retrospective comment. Feedback is always useful, even when it's about something you are not going to change. I figured it might be helpful to give my opinion on some things since people seem to keep coming back to this set.
Reminder text isn't necessarily rules text: Convoke uses the same reminder text, except for replacing sacrifice with tap.
