I saw a post in the Custom Card Creation sobforum the other day. I misread it thinking it said "damage", but it said "combat damage" instead. This was present not on a triggered ability that cared about combat damage, but on a one-shot effect that dealt combat damage.
I don't necessarily like or dislike the implementation of one-shot combat damage-dealing effects, but what if they were actually implemented in the game? What kinds of CR rules entries would there be regarding it?
Mainly, I just want to double check whether the rules I've posted below are consistent (i.e. don't contradict any of the currently existing CR rules entries and don't contradict themselves):
-----
120. Combat Damage
120.1. Creatures can deal combat damage to creatures, planeswalkers, and players. Generally, combat damage is dealt during the combat damage step of a combat phase (see rule 510), but some one-shot effects may also cause combat damage to be dealt to a creature, planeswalker, or player.
120.2. Combat damage that is dealt by a creature as a result of a one-shot effect is considered combat damage for purposes of other effects that check for combat damage being dealt. For example, abilities that trigger "whenever a creature deals combat damage to [something]" will trigger if a one-shot effect instructs that creature to deal combat damage to the appropriate object or player. See rule 603.
120.3. Combat damage that is dealt by a creature as a result of a one-shot effect is considered damage for purposes of other effects that check for damage being dealt but don't specify what kind of damage is dealt. For example, a creature with bloodthirst 1 (see rule 702.53) will enter the battlefield with a +1/+1 counter on it if its controller's opponent was dealt damage this turn by a creature that was instructed to deal combat damage as a result of a one-shot effect.
120.4. Unlike combat damage that's dealt during the turn-based action of the combat damage step, there is no damage assignment order that is involved in a one-shot effect that deals combat damage. As a result, the amount of combat damage that's dealt to an object or player as a result of a one-shot effect is the same as if it were noncombat damage. The exception to this is if an object has an effect that specifically cares about the distinction between combat damage and noncombat damage.
Example: Your opponent controls a Guard Gomazoa, a 1/3 creature that states in part, "Prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to Guard Gomazoa." Guard Gomazoa has no damage marked on it. You control a Runeclaw Bear, a 2/2 creature with no abilities. During your combat phase, you cast Super Awesome Combat Damage Spell targeting your Elite Vanguard and your opponent's Guard Gomazoa, an instant spell that states, "Target creature you control deals 1 combat damage to target creature you don't control." Super Awesome Combat Damage Spell resolves, but the combat damage is prevented. Guard Gomazoa will not have damage marked on it.
120.5. Combat damage can only be dealt during the combat phase of a turn. If an object would deal combat damage in a phase other than the combat phase, it deals noncombat damage instead.
120.6. Only creatures can deal combat damage. If a noncreature object would deal combat damage, it deals noncombat damage instead.
