Crazy Gardener1G
Creature—Human
Whenever a player taps a land for mana, that player adds 1 to his or her mana pool.
You may play Crazy Gardener as a colorless land with "T: Add G to your mana pool." If you do, it enters the battlefield tapped.
1/1
If you play this guy as a land, does he retain his mana-boosting ability? If not, how could I make it so that he does?
A permanent loses its abilities only in two situations:
1) An effect that explicitly says that the permanent loses its abilities causes it to lose its abilities. For example, Humble or Turn to Frog.
2) An effect that sets a land to one or more basic land types causes it to lose its other land types and lose its printed abilities. For example, Blood Moon or Song of the Dryads. The land will still retain abilities it has gained from other sources. For example, if a Blinkmoth Nexus is animated and then Dream Thrush changes it to a Mountain, it will still be a 1/1 Blinkmoth creature with flying, but it will lose its three printed activated abilities and gain "T: Add R to your mana pool."
-Exception- If an effect gives a land one or more basic land types "in addition to its other types" then it retains all of its other land types and all of its abilities. For example, Aquitect's Will or Prismatic Omen.
